I accidentally deleted the old giftbox topic. I am sure it will be loads of fun for any subeta staffers who care to take a look at it. Sorry

Lypsyl. my last post on it was asking if the giftboxes were supposed to get better near the end of the event

It's not your fault, it's Subeta's fault.. the decision to put the forum actions buttons in the current positions is wrong and messy and leads to many mistakes..

Well the original news post about them claimed that they would be adding stuff later. But they haven't said anything since, so that plan may have been dropped. I'm still hanging on to mine, I've only opened around 10, and the second set I opened, yesterday, wasn't materially different from my first set. Still, I see no harm in waiting to open them until the event is over. If the items don't get better, I won't be hurt by not opening them sooner, and if the items do improve, then I'm ahead of the game :).

And please change the name of the thread....

Either you have a better rememberer than I do or you read them more thoroughly than I. Probably both. And you are right, other than filling up your inventory there is no reason not to wait.

thanks (:

No fun at all.

We've been having trouble with the heat in the car because the weather keeps freezing and thawing and that's messing with one of the sensors.

And still, I need to suck it up and GO, lol

No heat in the car would be a big problem. I think cars have gotten too smart for our own good with all the sensors and computerized gewgaws

- I remember once when I was living in NY and my car in the morning was covered in a solid sheet of ice. I don't know how I was supposed to be able to even get in the car to get anywhere. I think I did some serious damage to the paint job on the car that morning. I'll send some warm thoughts to you and !

We don't usually have to deal with ice, but have done so often enough to know what a pain it is.

Our current car doesn't seem to be well built for the cold. This is the first year we've run into the heating problem, but the windows and doors regularly freeze shut ever since we've owned the vehicle.

: I feel that pain. For the last several winters, I've had mornings when I have to chip away the cocoon of ice and snow that's formed around my car just to get to work. I'm hoping that having a covered carport at the new house will help with that.

something like that would definitely help. I've always parked outside, some years we didn't even have a parking space with out apartment so we parked on the street without even being able to plug it in. Cheap little cars seemed to deal better, most of the cold weather issues I've run into have always been with the more fancy/expensive cars.

I love how you guys relate/sympathize with me! You are true friends! Probably lypsyl has it the worst being up there in the frozen Canadian tundra.

I managed to drag myself out and chip away at the ice enough to do what I absolutely had to do. Not what I should have done but any means. And I burned up enough gas/let my car run long enough to melt the majority of the rest of the ice off the windows anyway. I even was able to pry the wipers free.

WAAAA! POOR ME! lol

- You might be interested in this news story from my hometown! I don't understand why they close schools for bad weather, but not other places.

around here they only close schools when the buses can't run. There are many areas in the province where if the school buses aren't running, most of the class rooms would be empty anyway. As for why businesses don't close - well its money. If they close (at least around here), they have to pay staff. But if they are open and staff can't manage to make it in, then staff must take a holiday day, sick day (if they can), or no pay day. Its even worse for businesses with part-time/casual staff because if the snow day is near a holiday day, then the company might have to also pay staff for an official holiday when they otherwise might not have had to because of the rules that govern those.

I worked at one place where the boss lived an hour's drive outside the city - we often got to go home early on snow days because the boss HAD to leave early or risk not getting home at all due to highway closures.

Around here it takes a really fierce storm to close things down, even schools. I don't remember more than, at most, 1 snow day a year during primary school. And in four years of university, they only closed down once, but then that time the whole city was closed.

nah...its not so bad. Global warming is advantageous for us. The winters are definitely trending warmer.

- My school was always the last to close when I was a kid. I understand the money aspect of why businesses wouldn't close for the day, but there are plenty of businesses where someone could work from home for the day if you can't safely get to work. It's mind-boggling to me some times. University never closed for us, ever. There would be days that the public schools in town would close because it was too cold for the school buses to even start, but they just put up hypothermia warning signs on all of the university buildings.

- I have a feeling that I should know this, but what do you teach?

: During the academic year, I teach math at Virginia Tech. For the past ten summers, I taught a high school summer enrichment program, but political and funding changes make it look like I won't be doing that any longer. Not sure what I'll be doing this summer!

That would be so nice. Our boss has come right out and said if she can make it to work then so can the rest of us. Never mind that she lives less than a mile from work and I live almost 25. Whatever. I am thankful to have a job.

you guys are much tougher than we lazy Americans. Schools here had a 2 hour delay the past two days because of the cold.

I am pretty sure next summer you are supposed to donate your time to teach math to underprivileged kids.

That's what I've been doing -- I'll probably keep doing it, but it doesn't look like I'll be working for CEED next year.
