Quartermaster Update!

The Quartermasters feature went live on July 9. Almost a month in, here's what they've been doing with the money.

They've bought 47,104 items out of your shops and paid 2,132,542,946 sP for them, spread across 4,662 different sellers. That last number is the one that surprised me, I expected a few hundred people with big organized shops to get most of it, and instead it went much further!

On a normal day they buy about 1,900 items and spend about 86 million sP. Their biggest day for money was July 19 at 91,728,182 sP, and their busiest for volume was July 17 at 2,327 items. The average sale was 45,273 sP.

They've bought 1,870 different items at least once. There are only 2,071 items between rarity 90 and 99, so they've worked through about 90% of the list. The one they've spent the most money on overall is [[Lime Pot Pie]]: 104 copies for 4,838,915 sP.

Rarity 99 is where the most sP goes (duh). 9,518 items at r99 for 508,115,815 sP, which is close to a quarter of everything they've spent. 767 individual sales came in over 100,000 sP, and the ceiling gets hit regularly. If you see a sale for exactly 150,000, that's someone pricing an r99 right at the cap.

There are eleven quartermasters now and they're evenly matched by the random number generator. Cinthia is in front with 4,496 purchases and the Librarian is in last with 4,166. It's entirely random, and they're just buying all of the items.

Through July, the average price they paid went up every week. It started around 38,000 sP a day and was around 63,000 by the 31st, while the total daily spend stayed flat at 86 to 90 million. Fewer items, more money each. That is what it looks like when a price floor is doing its job (very very slowly).

There are still 78,690 rare items sitting in user shops, and about three quarters of them are priced where a quartermaster could buy them. The Quartermasters page has the caps and how long a listing has to sit before it counts.

Put a look together

Talent Sphere: It Returns!

Battle pets have something new(ish): the talent sphere. It's a board of passive battle perks, where you can choose a particular build for your pet. Want more elemental damage? How about evade?

The sphere system is open to everyone through August 15!

image

Here's the idea. Every pet starts at Awakening, the free node in the center of its own sphere. From there you can train any talent adjacent to one you already own, so builds grow outward, one connected path at a time. Three elemental regions radiate from the hub: Flames & Magma, Water & Ice, and Earth & Air. Each one stacks damage and resistance for its elements and ends in a rare 2-point blessing at the tip. Two bridges (Steam and Mud) connect the regions for hybrid builds, and the neutral lanes between them belong to no element at all. Once chosen, everything fires on its own during battle.

Points: every pet already has at least one to spend, right now, brand-new pets included. The next few come quickly from training strength and defense, and the last of the 18 are a real climb. Most talents cost 1 point, the region ultimates cost 2, and reset is free and unlimited, so try things.

If you played the first test back in May, the board has changed, and three lanes are worth knowing about:

  • Evade gives your pet a chance each turn to slip part of an incoming hit. Evade I is a 10% chance to avoid half the damage, Evade II adds 8% more chance, and Afterimage adds a little more chance while upgrading the dodge to the full hit. The chances add up across tiles; there's a hard cap so nobody becomes permanently untouchable.
  • Momentum is brand new this update. From your second turn on, your damage climbs 2% per turn, up to +10% with Momentum I or +20% with Momentum II. It builds fresh each battle, so quick fights barely feel it and long slugfests really do. Under the hood this is the first thing in the battle engine's history that remembers anything from one turn to the next, which matters for where the sphere/scrolls/weapons/challengers goes next 👀.
  • Riposte is the other new one, and it's for the defense corner. When your pet takes damage, Riposte I gives a 15% chance to strike back for 25% of what you took; Riposte II adds 10% more chance and raises the strike to 40%. Tanky builds that can give back some damage. It works in single battles and the Horde.
  • Two more things that are new to everyone: each pet now has three loadouts (build three different spheres, pick which one a battle uses), and any build can be exported as a short share code that another pet can import if it has the points and the paths to afford it. You can find folks sharing those codes on the battle spheres thread.

Found something broken? Built something wonky? The Battle Spheres thread is where I'm collecting all of it.

🛒 Old Shops: Finally Retiring

Starting today, every pre-2014 legacy shop is being emptied into its owner's vault, a few shops at a time. You don't have to do anything, and you don't have to be online for it.

Legacy shops were retired years ago — you haven't been able to stock or manage one since. What we never got around to was actually taking the items back out. There are still 20,131,269 items sitting in 37,712 old shops belonging to 23,645 of you. Some of that has been in there for over a decade! This is a massive table in our database, just hanging around and taking up space without being useful, and I'd love to be able to finally retire it.

When your shop's turn comes up, you'll get an event telling you which shop it was and how many items moved. If you're not around, it'll be waiting for you whenever you next log in.

A few specifics:

  • Items land in your vault's unsorted section. If you already had some of an item, the amounts are added together.
  • Shops go oldest first. The whole run will take about a week.
  • The old shop itself stays in your list. It'll just be empty.

‼️ Your shop's sP is staying where it is. If your legacy shop still has sP in it from sales, that money isn't part of this — it stays in the shop till, untouched. I'm working out that side separately and I'll say more once I have. Nothing is being taken away from you.

If something looks wrong with your items after your shop is emptied, file a ticket and I'll dig into it.
