I think I jumped the gun by turning Chipstick into a vibrant Archan if the potion was released in August. That was when hell showed up in DAPL form on the rez. I still shudder seeing footage of their "turn-outs" - each one exactly where an archaeologist had marked cairns (grave markers) on gps the day before. I know now how naive I was about the ways of the world, but I really thought when they were told it was treaty land they would realize their mistake and go back to the original layout by Bismarck. Our elders knew but I thought no way, this is america, they can't just run over sacred ground, its just not right, not to mention unconstitutional. Worst. Reality. Check. EVER.

Eric is alive and well. But he is really upset by the change to galleries. And then his grandmother fell and is in a live in facility for the time being so he is totally fending for himself; no one to cook, clean for him, etc.

I want to be back, I NEED to be back, but I don't know whats going to happen in the coming weeks/months so I honestly don't know.

I trust y'all so I'll speak freely - be warned it's way too much information but its the only way I know when it comes to this situation.

They're all still here. Dozens of officers called in by the sheriff are still here. DAPL is still here. The national guard is still here. The drill pad is still active. Corporate owners have said straight up they don't care what the ACoE (Army corp of engineers) says, they will not re-route the pipeline, it's going under lake Oahe. (Wiki)

They are still shooting "non lethal" weapons at anyone who gets too far from camp, and if they can catch us, we will be arrested. Just the other day they came up behind a group of 4 or 5 elders who were praying on turtle ridge, shot them from behind with rubber bullets and arrested them. They were too close to the razor wire which is trespassing even if it's our land. It's their wire.

Before Christmas they were told all permits have been denied and any further filings will be denied by the ACoE because they are on treaty land (tribal is occupied land - the rez - treaty land belongs to the surrounding tribes because the Sioux nation is huge and is managed by "overseers" of the ACoE aka the government)

There's nothing here, its the middle of nowhere North Dakota. So the corp gives ranchers in the badlands "permits" to rent treaty land for agricultural reasons. DAPL bought cannonball ranch who had permits for the treaty land that boarders on lake Oahe. Energy Transfer partners (the company that owns DAPL) absorbed the permits when they bought the ranch and thats when all hell broke loose. They have not shown any permits they say they have but after months of litigation it doesn't matter, even if they have them, the permits are for grazing and working the land, not drilling into it.

Council had to go all the way up the legal chain to federal court where finally someone listened and actually read the arguments that were made to try and remind the ACoE that their job is maintaining the integrity of treaty land, improving it agriculturally and protecting the environment. Drilling under lake Oahe and the Missouri River to install a tar-sand pipeline does not fall under those categories.

Energy Transfer Partners legal team is set to challenge that tomorrow or Wednesday if Im reading the messages right. DAPL and ETP are also banking on the new president to tell them to go for it so the sheriff can go be cleared to invoke excessive force as granted under the instigation of marshal law. If that happens - it won't be good for any of us. They used excessive force last time but didn't have the green light for marshal law.

I honestly dont know if I can be back yet. If they get the ACoE decision reversed, it's going to be all hands on deck and the "digger" who saves everything her elders on the front line upload to social media to an external hard drive offline and analyzes it frame by frame for tribal council. She's got almost 500 gigs of files already and could really use a bigger drive.

If they ever find out who she is, she'll be arrested, but she's really good at what she does or so they say. She's found planting weapons, breaking into camp, proof of concussion grenades being used at point blank range, the list goes on and on.

Seeing she is me, I can say for certain she doesn't care if they try, she's got several people out of jail just paying close attention to detail in each frame of the footage. But if they come at us again, I have to do my part and wont be able to be around again except when there's a lull in the assault. My stomach hurts just typing those words.

I forget ya'll havent known me forever at times I guess. I'm half Sioux and my family is at Standing Rock ND I cant be there any more, I'm not fast enough. I'm tough enough or thought I was but when I twisted my ankle somehow being diabetic jacked up the circulation or something, and I can't scramble or run like you need to when you're there. That and we're suppose to remain in prayer when we're at camp no matter what they do to us and I'm not good with that either.

I was there at the beginning of the 11-20 assault, didn't get out of camp in time and tribal council has strict rules that everyone in camp MUST follow. One of them is if you are a woman you do not go anywhere once dusk falls, it's too risky. My sister was one of several hundred arrested and shoved in kennel like cages on October 27th (yes, they really did use thick black permanent marker to write arrest numbers on their arms) and it did a number on her emotionally so I went in her place. That was when I realized they really do want us dead. When they started firing rubber bullets and concussion grenades point blank at people on the bridge my we-eh (godfather) told one of the elders he had to break protocol and got his wife, myself and two of my nieces out. He went back and I came to subeta completely freaking out. I haven't been back, I now understand what they meant by I'm not fast enough now, I cant outrun canisters or move out of the way of a billy club. My we-eh stops every couple days and picks up the supplies we manage to put together now. I don't know if I will ever go back to the front lines camp and to us it is Seven Council Fires is a sacred place, but Im afraid of it now - I dont know if I can.

This is what we've seen in October and November. We've got blowing snow and ground blizzards now but they're still working.

This is not going to end well.

October 24th or 27th - this is one of the elders who was in prayer, that's a prayer staff, and they said it was a rifle after they were shown the picture.

After seeing the videos and pictures we had of that assault the old governor demanded FB stop allowing video feeds. Not gonna happen, not even the men who think they're gods now that they have over 300 billion dollars backing them up can stop social media.

This is Turtle Ridge, the white clouds are teargas and something that makes you puke but I don't know what it is. Turtle Ridge is sacred burial ground to us but they said without proof it's theirs and surrounded it with razor wire after the water incident.

For example - yes, this happened - The end of November when the first blizzard hit, the sheriff told ACE hardware and grocery stores off the rez not to sell supplies to us and they agreed. CNN showed up and the sheriff said it was a misunderstanding. I will NEVER spend a freaking penny in an ACE hardware store again as long as I live and neither will anyone in my family.

Um.. if you want the true story, you'll have to ignore the "main media outlets" and use youtube or facebook to see amateur video taken by people on the front lines with their cell phones and such.

We've never dealt with anything like this before. Oceti Sakowin (seven council fires) was something our ancestors did in the 1800s. Our chairman called for the gathering when we realized we could not rely on .. cough law enforcement to stop DAPL construction on treaty land after he (the sheriff) and other city officials from Mandan and Bismarck decided it wasn't safe and should be constructed elsewhere. Like under the Missouri River that feeds the heartland, not like pipelines leak or break or anything, nothing to worry about and if it does, its down river so they're good.

You had way more faith in your government than I ever had in mine. For me its the legacy of residential schools. I know the US also had these schools, but I'm not sure how deeply rooted they were there. Here the government actively encouraged at least some of the abuses that occurred and certainly helped to cover up the worst excesses. In the US, my impression was that the government role was more in the realm of neglect than encouragement.

My father was a victim of the residential school system and this had a profound impact on my life, in more ways than I can count. But part of that impact was a lasting mistrust of the government and the things they are willing to do behind closed doors. If they were willing to tear children away from their families in order to implement their assimilation policies, they are capable of anything.

I know you have to fight. I stand with you. But I fear for you and the others, because my greatest fear is that even more people will end up hurt and maimed, maybe killed, and still the pipeline will be built. Still, we must stand up and let the world know that this is wrong. Whether or not the pipeline gets built through your land, in the end you will stand proud and tall because you have fought against evil and corruption.

Ok.. I think it's safe to assume the email I sent telling you why I was only bouncing online at the last minute for WS and never here was caught up in the signal blocking that happened half the summer.

I told you all about what was happening and about the main stream media blockout, I figured since they considered us the enemy you felt it was best not to respond.

I didn't post it on our staff page because I didn't know how to word things not knowing everyone's position on the protest. Most people don't know the original route was slated to be put in just east of Bismarck which is where the 1%ers live. Thats what we call the people who were part of the Bakken Field (fracking for tar-sand oil area) who became rich overnight. They had a 1% town meeting and decided it was unsafe and helped ETP and DAPL come up with a new route through here. Seriously, the plan, permits and equipment was all in play in under 100 hours. We've been fighting to get them to stay away from lake Oahe since. The whole thing started to turn in August and has never stopped.

No one has been killed. There are false stories out there but so far no deaths have occurred.

There have been several injuries, warriors do not admit being injured so the actual count will never be known. I know for a fact that there were two elders who went into cardiac arrest when they were hit with the water cannon during the November assault. At that same event one woman was shot in the face with a rubber bullet and she's lost sight in that eye, another was hit in the arm with a concussion grenade but they are trying to save her arm.

During one of the October assaults one of the spirit riders had his horse shot out from under him, killing the horse but the rider got away. Another horse was torn up from "non-lethal" beanbag rounds but he's fine, his rider is too.

Main stream media only covers what the sheriff tells them. For example you'll hear something about us throwing "propane bombs" or "movtov cocktails". I've documented literally thousands of hours of video (frame by frame and in slow motion) and in all those frames I've seen several empty and 4 partial 16.5 oz water bottles thrown, two that were filled with milk of magenzia (to counter act being sprayed in the face with tear gas) one 5 gallon water jug (empty), one chunk of wood, 5 or 6 sticks and a corn stalk that I am unsure was actually thrown because the confrontation was during harvest.

None of the empty water bottles reached the frontline. Only the handful that were partially full went anywhere. None made contact with the riot squad.

One bottle that had the milk of magnezia in it hit another protector in the back of the leg. It's my opinion these bottles were intended to be caught and used because the group they were tossed at had been hit at point blank range with two tear gas canisters.

The 5 gallon jug incident happened when the authorities tore down teepee's and tents at the front line camp out on October 27th. It did not hit anyone. If it was suppose to hit someone I can't tell, they were only a few feet apart and there's not way to know if it was thrown "at" the riot squad tearing down the tent or thrown in frustration. That opinion is up to the person viewing the video. I do know that in return one of the riot police tazed the guy who threw it in the face, it took two medics to get the barb out. They also nailed the people trying to get their property out of the tent with tear gas, rubber bullets and several baton strikes.

To date I have only documented two sticks making contact with anyone in the riot squad. One to the officer's arm/chest area, the other to an officers foot, none of the others made contact. The officer who was struck in the arm had a tear gas canister that he set off in response and sprayed himself in the face.

The log hit the armored tank. They were running over the front line encampment and at that time there was complete chaos. This was also the 27th. We are to remain in prayer, singing, praying, we are not to react no matter what is done to us.

The log thrower and others in his group was told to leave by the elders a day or two later.

They arrested over 100 of us that day.

No one with authority has said anything. The president "suggested" they stop digging voluntarily due to the archaeologist who inspected the area they had mapped for laying the pipeline was employed by ETP and had not been accepted as someone with knowledge in the traditional ways of the tribe.

An accepted archaeologist was brought in on Sept. 2 who mapped out several areas that needed to be inspected. That was on a Friday. They filed their assessment. Sept. 3 DAPL went back to work and every site that was mapped out was dozed.

My heart broke and reality slapped me in the face hard that day. That's when I realized this is not a democracy and nothing is going to stop them.

I had to admit to my sister that yeah, I paid attention when the elders spoke. I know the teachings. But I honestly thought that these were people who harbored much animosity from the past, they didn't understand that we have to all try to get along. We have one earth, one shared circle that we have to learn to share. I was wrong.

I know this is not going to end well but I also know if I don't stand up for what's right - if I don't show my children and grandchildren that you have try and do what's right for mother earth no matter what the cost, I will have failed as a parent and as a human being. This is about saving the river - it isn't about tribal land, treaty land, money or anything else. We have to stand up for it or we as a planet are doomed.

I'm glad that no one have been killed, but I'm very angry that people got injured, very badly, and a horse died (I prefer to keep animals away from human conflicts). It's like you always wondered if what the movies shows to you can actually happen and thanks to you I got the answer, it can happen, this pure evil, goverement control, anti democracy way of achieving things and hurting people, is not a script, it's real life and it's happening. It really makes me sick!

In my opinion, you need to contact all the archeology departments of all the universities in the USA, to spread this word that this pipeline is going to destroy a lot of history + if you can prove that there are dead bodies you can contact religious organization that their job is to prevent digging and building in areas where there are archeological graveyards/dead bodies. if there were Jews there and you can prove it I can give you a name of organization that can make a hell..

Yes, I'm First Nations. But one of the lasting impacts of the residential school system on my father was a deep shame of who he was, so he never passed down his language or his culture (which, of course, was the point of the system). My grandparents tried to instill a sense of my history in me, but I just wasn't there often enough to really learn to embrace it. My mother is French and she had no trouble passing down her heritage. I literally sit between two worlds, neither First Nations, nor white, yet part of both.

You aren't wrong that we need to learn to get along. That we are all part of one world - no matter how it sometimes feels. But when only one side is willing to try, that side gets taken advantage of.

I can "pass" for white, most white people I meet casually think I'm one of them. Even my friends who know I'm not, have a tendency to forget that fact. So I see all the unconscious, systematic prejudice at work on an almost daily basis. Its not that people in general are evil, its just that we have a limited capacity to care. Like a pie, there are only so many pieces to go around. People want to believe the simple lie, or that its a misery of our own making, so they can hoard their pie and don't have to give us even a sliver.

True evil knows this and uses it to their advantage. They know they only have to make up the right lie and people will believe it because its easier that way. So we battle not only evil, but indifference as well.

We can win! You know it too, you've said it. The way to win is to teach our children and grandchildren to stand up for what's right by example. No matter the outcome, Standing Rock will have an impact. And the word is getting out in spite of the people trying to minimize it.

I can understand why you would feel keeping the horses away would be best for other conflicts, its a difference in our culture. In native culture our warriors ride horses, it's tradition. They are a part of us. When I was a kid I use to always say "I'm a plains indian, I ride on a horse not in a canoe" when someone asks me why I don't like to go swimming lol

Thats a huge relief! I was thinking ohmygod what if she was thinking I walked out on her for the last six months?!? After what happened to my sister I told my we-eh I had to do more - gathering supplies and baking cookies wasnt enough so they decided to utilize my ability to spot the slightest detail and remain unemotional while I analize something. My job is save and examine the raw footage frame by frame no matter who's doing what uploaded in real time. I follow a list of reliable sources the elders gave him and download their footage if it contains interaction between both sides. It can get overwhelming but someone has to do it. Raw data doesn't lie. People do.

Everything I find is saved and uploaded under an alias for council to review and use as they see fit. I would do it under my name but I've see first hand what law enforcement is capable of - thanks but no thanks, I choose life. There are warrants out for my arrest because of whats been presented before a judge but not in my name.
