Mr. Mortiking discovered McDonalds!
Hmm,.. it's well drawn, but I do prefer the old one. The older virsion had a sence of elegance and power to it, where this one just looks like he's just having a hissy fit about chocolate cake. Not very kingly, or mortifying. The shading is of course wonderful, but I think his/her neck and fingers should be alittle longer.
I'm not gonna lie, this mortiking seems less like it's well-muscled and powerful, and more like it's a little overweight.
Where's his tail? ![]()
niiice. just don't like that the tail tip just 'disappears' behind it
I really like this revaaaamp. Don't change it a lot, or at all. Pleeease. I'm considering getting one now. C:
It's good art, but it's also not the best revamp we've ever had offered up. I think he looks much too chubby, and I prefer the lonley-looking-ness of the current mortking.
Also, bigger, shiny claws look better than those ones on the mortking, i think.
Again, great art, but I don't think it'll be a great revamp.
This is truly the only pet I think looks worst after, the anatomy is akward as well. It's the only one I've had to vote "older" on before. I'm glad I hadn't gone through with doing a mortiking theme rather then velosotor. =s I hope there is another version. I would still like to eventually own one =( The only thing I like is the coloring ;_;
I like the shading on the tail... makes it look very sinewy and muscle-y ![]()
"Not every single pet on a petsite has to look like it can gracefully slip through a forest. Mortikings stomp people and knock over trees."
And not everyone here wants it skinny, either. A lot of people like the mortiking with a bit of fat, since he is a larger dinosaur, but with his apparent..... bulge, he wouldn't be able to CATCH anyone to stomp them. While I agree, Chilly's is a bit too slim in the legs and arms, yours is still a bit too large all around, if you ask me and a lot of people posting here. If you look, hers still had a belly, but it wasn't insanely huge, however, it was missing the muscles on the back such a large dinosaur-godzilla-like creature would have, while yours does have the muscle, and a SLIGHTLY- and I mean very slightly- overdone stomach, all the muscle in the back looks like it is hidden beneath layers upon layers of fat. It could also be the size of the head that is adding to this effect, since it IS smaller in comparison to the body from other Mortikings that you drew.
Woo hardcore dinosaur~
Oh DNA..I love this! Two things which have probably been said before: The mouth I think should go back just a bit more...it does indeed look a bit small for it's size. Also, the claws on the left foot don't seem to be as long as the claws on the right. It may be that my perception is off, but that's all I could see that irked me in the slightest. I LOVE how you do the creases in the tail and behind the neck. I noticed that in the Serpenth revamp and just adore you for it. It makes the pets that much more realistic. Kudos to you ![]()

oo my. I simply love the Mortiking. Im blown away by the work done by the artist. ![]()
Mhm, Pudgiking.
When I tried the link to get to the poll I got on subeta.net instead of subeta.ws. No worries, I did put my vote on subeta.ws.
The art of the new one is beautiful, but I don't like the new versions face expression.
Don't ask my why, I voted for the old version, I think the new version is superb too!! Nothing wrong it that I can see. ![]()
I think the head/neck area is part of what's making it look 'blubbery' to some people; if you look at Glacier and even Galactic, it's more defined and less smooth/roly-poly looking. The head is also smaller on this one in comparison to the others, and the thighs/body are a bit bulkier
Probably just repeating old advice, but ehh c:
That being said, even if it's not the ideal Mortiking, the art looks stunning and I very much look forwards to the next one ![]()
I actually like this revamp. The only thing that looks odd to me is the sails on his back going up towards his neckline and head. To me they look like they're going straight back instead of staying in the middle of his head, especially since his head is slightly turned. It could be just me with how his stance is that they appear that way, though.
looks like godzilla ![]()
I dunno...I prefer the old one's pose....this one's more detailed and all, but the pose seems rather strange and the expression makes him sorta look...well...dumb. :C
Maybe if you just detailed the original's pose or edit it a little, I'd vote for a revamp. But for now, I'm sticking with the old and Ev1's Mortiking. ^___^
I'm not really a fan of mortikings, so no matter how good the redraw is, I probably won't adopt one, but I can't decide between the old one and the redraw anyway. I like the detail on the new one, especially in the claws (front and back). Out of personal preference, I thought the longer and thinner horns made it...cooler (for lack of a better word). The new one has a rather fat neck and belly, and I think it would look more dangerous if it's teeth were sharper. And it's lips (covering the teeth) should angle backwards more than up. The dangerous look would be more convincing if his mouth was open, but I'll take what you give me. I like the muscles in his legs, tail, and arms. The positioning of the tail is kind of...weird (for lack of a better word again) but I really like the detail on it. I also think the eyes would be cooler if they were more slit-like. I really like his eyebrows. Good work though, it's tons better than I could ever dream of doing.
I have to admit that though I no longer have a Mortiking in my group, I much preferred the old one to this proposed revamp. Now, I do admit that the quality of the art and the shading is quite nice (especially the 'dotty' shading to indicate scales). No, I couldn't do better- I'm a writer, not an artist. Still, with that said...
I agree with most people that the overemphasis of the muscle is a bit of a put-off to the design. I realize he's supposed to be powerful and I'm not saying he needs to be Velosotor thin/sleek but...as it stands now, the Motriking just looks...chubby. As though he ate all the pies and then some. That's just personally my main issue with the design.
The other thing is that the expression does look like more of a sneer than a snarl but that's just a minor thing XD
I am glad, however, that certain crits are being taken into account and tweaked. It's nice to know the artists listen, at least.
He looks so manly. ![]()

I love this version! It is soo detailed and the colouring/shading is gorgeous!
The Mortiking looks more fat to me and less...musclebound. I expected it to look less like it ate too much McDonald's and more like it worked out at the gym every day. :/ But, it's still way better than the original - it's face looks a bit fiercer.
There are a few things I don't like about this... The left claw looks a little... off. And, like a bunch of people already said, it looks like it ate waaaay too many doughnuts. o.o Fatty-mc-fatty. X3
The shading is AMAZING, though.
dot...shading? You...mean putting scales on the scaled pets?

BURNINATE!
Overall, I mostly like it. The more layers of shading, the fact that it has more plausible anatomy, etc.
The only two things I don't like are really distracting, though:
The snarl. It's like its snarl isn't big enough for it to actually be fierce looking; not enough teeth showing. As is, it looks like a more like a sneer or a grimace; more of a singsongy "nyah nyah nyah nyah nyaaaah~ nyah" than a threat.
The body texture. I like the idea of a more muscular Mortiking; however, the roundness and closeness of the many layers of shading (esp. in the neck area) emphasies the "round" of the body rather than muscle structure. In fact, it's hard to notice the muscles at all. As a result, the fierce, powerful carnivore looks like a smooth, round blob. Maybe a little more shade-emphasis on the muscle area, so the eye catches them more readily?
I think it's a step in the right direction, but it needs some tweaking.
Who ate all the pies.
I love the idea of a redraw, but I can't help but think this new mortiking is obese.
I have compared it to other redraws, and really, it's the fattest of them all. Just try and take some of the chub on its neck away and maybe elongate its snout just a smidge. I understand it shouldn't be graceful, but don't think it should sport a double-triple chin look.
I hope you don't change a thing... I love the new look just the way it is.
Sorry about the blank post. I ment to say I love the new look and the way hes showing his teeth now thats awesome
It's not a freaking tyrannosaurus, for the last time. The person who compared it to Godzilla was the most spot on. The mortiking has never been based off of a true-to-life dinosaur, no matter how many times you keep trying to pretend it is.
Aristo, why don't you wait and see what I'm going to do with it? As it is, I'm far less likely to take critique from people who insist on being pushy than people who offer suggestions, back them up, and know what being patient is. Either you like the final version, or you don't--there are plenty of people here who understand what I'm doing, and don't have their own vision of what the mortiking used to look like in their heads. The mortiking's miserable anatomy is changing, and there are already several examples onsite of what we're aiming for in the final version. I'm sorry if the final version doesn't please you, but then again, complaining has always been an olympic sport around these parts, whether someone plans to ever have a specific pet or color or not.
I believe the 'dotty' shading is suppose to make it look like it has texture/scales since dinos are anything but smooooth.
I do love DNA's art, too. The shading and coloring are always wonderful, and she really brought the Serpenth to life. The coloring and shading are lovely on the Mortiking. That I could never dispute. The detail is spot on as well. Perhaps the Mortiking just needs a new pose? Eh, I dont know. ^^;
I love DNA's expressions and art and everything. XD I think the only thing that makes her pets different from the rest of Subeta's is the fact that she does that 'dot shading.' It's hard to explain.
I guess it may look 'dotty' (ugh I wish I knew how to word it better) because of its skin. No idea. @@;
Personally,I like the old Mortiking better because of the eyes and the way it looks like it's crouched down. But then again,my opinion doesn't really matter seeing as I don't have one.xD;
Oops, I mean, Velosotor-thin, not Velosotor-thing. Sorry.
Does that mean you aren't going to slim him up, DNA? We aren't asking for a Velosotaur-thing pet, we're asking for a pet that doesn't look quote as fat. We know the Mortiking is a beast, a huge one, but his apparent arm flab isn't very appealing. That's all I'm saying and I think that's what a lot of people here are saying.

I love the shading on this new version! ^^ Great artwork!
The neck and head seem disproportionately small, though (looking at the common mortiking alone, but also when compared to other poses like the glacier version). I'd like to see the tip of it's tail too, just because I think it'd add more interest, but that's not a big deal. But the eye really bothers me... It's so small and looks blank and dead. Maybe fix the brow above it so he doesn't look like he can barely keep his eyes open?
That means alot coming from you, DNA. =3
And I truthfully wouldn't want the mortiking to look like my version, I was just pointing out what I meant earlier.. Everyone seemed to get the wrong impression when I was trying to explain. I appreciate the compliment. You too, are a great artist. ^^
Yes, but that one just looks fat. It looks like a slow tyrannosaurus. It doesnt even look like it would have the energy to swing at a tree let alone stomp it. Sleek, yes, get a Velosotor, Vicious, however, get a Mortiking. If nothing else, please return it's vicious face... It just looks tired... Well, as though it has bags under it's eyes anyway. And it's once mighty claws...
Chilly, you're a lovely artist. That's not how the mortiking will look, and I could've guessed that's what half of you would want. Again, a mortiking is not a sleek beast. Get a velosotor with a fin. Not every single pet on a petsite has to look like it can gracefully slip through a forest. Mortikings stomp people and knock over trees.
To me it just looks... awkward. It has lost all viciousness that the Mortiking is known for. Instead it looks drunk, tired, and as though it's about to collapse. The detail is good, yes, however... The toenails look stubby. Laughable as claws... The left claw looks a bit small and deformed. Almost as though it's wrist is broken...
Ugh. Please. Please dont make this the Mortikings final look...
ChillyKittenhas done a much better job in relaying the pet's strong, vicious nature. Hers commands much more respect.
I've always loved the old Mortiking and prefer it a lot more, I don't know why exactly, the new one just looks off. And the pose is just so boring.
But since most of the redraws already look like the new mortiking, It doesn't really matter to me anymore ^^ Its not one of my favorites anymore.
aww all this "chubby" talk is going to give the new Mortiking a complex
lol. I still like this new look, it's a bit more fierce looking and I like the weight, it feels more Godzilla-looking somehow...
Woah there nelly! Size him down a bit, he looks like he put on a couple of pounds. Regardless if that's through fat or pure muscle, he looks like the bulk.
Find the middle ground. Good luck staff.
I think the shading is wonderful, however, I loved the structure of the old moritking- specifically the way it held it's neck.
I kind of prefur the old one
