Voted for the old, but I don't think I have the right to say why, since I don't have a Mortiking.

i love the new one and i don't think it's fat, those look like muscles to me. the only critique i have is i would like the tail to continue to the other side they way it is now it just disappears.

I love the colors and texture, but as everyone else has previously stated, it's a little fat /=

I could see if it were a bit thinner in just about every spot, I would love it XD

I don't believe she even said you hated it. It was insulting because you were flippant about the pet and the process of making it. You basically said, "I don't like it, do another." That's insulting. AND, it doesn't help. We don't know why you don't like it, or how to turn it around into a pet you WOULD like with a post like that.

hmm...well i like the new one but, like the aerie re-draw, this one seems kinda bulky? like his claws and horns look kinda dull and not sharp and pointy. the eyes are kinda small too...i'd rather they be more like slits (like in the old one) instead of circular. it'd also be cool if you could see the rest of his tail other than all that, i really love it~ the colouring job is excellent like always and i like that he looks more vicious~

I still do not see how my comment is a insult. I was not saying I HATE the art. I was just saying that I DO NOT LIKE IT. I never said the word /hate/ in my comment. You are acting like a hate the image. No. I do not hate it. In fact, I look up to any drawn art, because I can not draw. But that has noting to do with what I am saying.

Just to let you know, I voted for the new one. The musculature is a good addition, and the pose is slightly more interesting. The only problem I have with this art is the face; if the brow ridges were thinner and the snout was marginally longer, it would make it look more menacing... I don't know about you, but a fat-faced dinosaur (Mortiking, I know) looks a little Barney-ish to me. The body of the old one looked just about as bulky (in fact it actually had a bulkier stomach than the new one), so that doesn't bother me. Here's my redline (I don't know how to post images, so it might just show the URL) :

Good shading in most areas, but the claws and horns bother me, they look a bit...crusty, or rock like instead of something that belongs on a lizard/dino thing.

Well, here is my tips. The new mortikings look kind of chubby. The issue is the muscles don't really look like muscles as much as fat. It might be the angle as well. Just do a reshadowing on the new mortiking like you have with multiple other pets. The old mortiking only needs a new coat of shading and it will still be awesome.

I honestly haven't liked any of the new mortikings aside from Glacier and MAYBE galactic. They're giving off a giant rabid blob mood to me. Why have their heads become so box shaped? This new look is too fat and stubby. I'm still trying to figure out what's up with the mouth. I'm scared to see what will happen to my angelic.

I personally think it's great! Only things I'd change are: --Longer arms --Longer horns on the muzzle snotie thing.. --Longer muzzle snoutie thing --Bigger eyes(Just a little!) --See the tip of the tail.

Just a few simple tweaks and it should be perfect!!

And to all the people insulting the artwork, I'm sure DNA worked really hard on this(It looks awesome!) and I really doubt you could do a better job.

The old version of the Mortiking was okay, but this one's got amazing shading and a great pose, too.

Personally, I think the "chubby" comments are all wrong. This pet's all muscle. The old one looked more chubby to me.

Anyways, great job!

The revamp looks great, but I really liked the smaller belly of the current one. This one's a bit...too large for my tastes (this is mainly personal opinion). I'm assuming that the Mortiking is partially based off of a T-rex, which was a hunter (and I'm sure many users see the Mortiking as a hunting pet). If that's the case, it should be in better shape.

Also, the mouth just looks too small. As I mentioned before, the Mortiking appears to be based off of the T-rex. Because of that, the mouth should go back to just underneath the eye.

And the tail--it looks pretty strange just sticking out like that, and curled. We should be able to see the tip somewhere.

I really love how detailed this one is in comparison to the old Morti. He not only looked angry, but intelligent, too--that's how the Mortiking should be.

I like it. He looks like he could kick some serious ass; he's not all bent up now, haha. Only downside is the comparative lack of shading and how the fins don't quite match up to the angle of the body... making them shorter may fix that.

So far, for those of you keeping track;

I'll definitely be arranging the spines so they're all bending back in the same direction, making the eye larger (and tweaking the color more to red), adding the tailtip now that I see a way to do it without bending everything too far out of the way, and making a few other small tweaks. We'll see what else; thank you to those of you who gave actual, helpful critique. I greatly appreciate it, and I'll make the most of the advice in the future as well.

To those of you who feel the need to be rude or yell for what -you- want done (and even moreso towards those of you who don't even want the pets in the first place), and those of you who are so petty as to gripe due to some personal grudges--feel free to keep at it. It's not enough to stop me from enjoying my work here, and if you don't like my pets, that's what the other species that other artists draw are for.

I did like the old Mortiking, but this is a great improvement for it. I love the fact that the teeth are bared. I find the growling look ferocious. xD

People are way too picky. I don't really see the 'chubby' part that people are lamenting over. I see... a Mortiking. A snarly, sinister, shiny new Mortiking.

And it pwns. xD

This is a wonderful piece of art - the shading, texturing, and everything is very well done! There's only a couple things I would change, and they may just be nitpicky things I suppose. First off, I would like to see the tip of the tail, coming off the right side, maybe or curled up in the back. Secondly, the bit of gums that are showing doesn't look right to me...the gums that are showing should be farther back I think. And lastly, the eye is sort of...I dunno, off I guess...maybe add a pupil or just a little more depth. Otherwise though, I think this is excellent.

Why can't everyone just smile and take what they get. I say, the Mortiking looks wonderful, and with this update it looks even better. I'm sorry but when a artist takes the time to redraw a pet and make it look awesome, it really ticks me off to see someone have to criticize it so much as this. Mortikings have always been bulky and muscular, and this updated version makes that very clear. I don't know why some people have to pick and peck at this. Gah, all of you are too crazy not to notice the wonderful work as done in this update. [/hugs mortiking] @ D@

I just want to start out by saying that, like all subeta art, this is fantasticly drawn; however, like all art, it can be improved on. At the risk of sounding unoriginal, it's too bulky. Whether that bulk is chub or muscle is irrelevant, but it looks off with huge, fat biceps and teeny-tiny arms. I know that is how a T-rex is supposed to look, but the older Mortiking was much more proportional. I think the nose spine should be longer as well. Other than that, it's gorgeous. The shading and line work is amazing.

User Avatar

I voted old but only because I am not sure I really like the pose and a few other little details on the new one. I think I would like it a little more front facing or a slightly wider stance. The tail looks a bit segmented for lack of a better word to me. it looks like it has a muscular top with a fatty under part, I disliked this with the bloodred mortiking as well but the other special poses do not have it. (If it looked more like the glacier or graveyard it would be fine) The neck looks a bit short to me and if the back spikes were a tiny bit taller as they approached the tail I think it would add to the overall appearance. I love the overall more muscular appearance however and the colour and shading is remarkable.

Would I be breaking the rules if I said it looked like it was on steroids? ^^;; Seriously though, I think it should be more angular, like the old one. And longer spines, too (like on it's nose). This one's a little bit too bulky for my taste.

I had to vote for the old one because I didn't like the Elvis lip that this one has going on and the arms seem way too stubby. With a couple of edits this could be a real winner -- I agree with elongating the neck a little, too.

I have to say, I really love this revamp. I didn't even think the mortiking needed a revamp until I saw the old and new side by side in the polls. Wow. It updates the look of the pet while keeping the same feeling it had before. The shading is also beautiful. And I do like its "thickness", I guess would be the word. The only suggestion I would make would be to make the foot claws a bit bigger like the current version as they seem a bit tiny. Otherwise, it's awesome.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I like the glacier and bloodred ones ; but I like the old art better

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

The Mortiking revamp isn't chunky! It's an ambush predator now. Why run after prey when you can wait for it to come to you? It's ambushing sugar cookies and chocolate cake, yes.

I voted for the old version, but only because this one was too muscular for my taste. ^^

j/k

Ok, I have ot agree with quite a few people here- I love the detail on the Mortiking. I really like the shine on the claws and the coloring is far better than the current version.

Nonetheless, I also have to agree that it looks chunky, as if its body structure couldn't accommodate those muscles. I think the shading might be one of the reasons why it looks overweight. Maybe slim down the stomach, like some people suggested could work out. A small detail that bothers me is the insignia it has on it's stomach. On the revamp, the broken diamond can be confused with a whole diamond, while on the original, you can see it's broken. I think it' look better if the design were clearer.
