ChillyKitten - Have you ever seen those muscle magazines? Where the men on the covers look like their muscles are inflated - well that's this guy. He's all muscle. If it wasn't muscle, it'd be one big flab and there would be no definition what-so-ever. Also, his tail is hidden behind him, so you can't really say he doesn't have a long tail for balance. His head may be a bit small, but in this case, it has to match other versions of this pet. And finally, all the other Mortikings have "bellies" - why is this one so much different?

I love the detail provided on this one but I do think it needs to be a tad thinner. The older one gives a sense of height, that he was tall and had to look down at you. This one doesn't portray that, but maybe that's the point. 0_o Guess I just like tall dinos

One of my favorite revamps so far. I'd like it even more if certain features of the original Mortiking were present, specifically the slightly longer neck and back spines.

I'd also like to see some tail tip action. And possibly add some contrast, I rather like the brightness of the old Mortiking. Otherwise I just love the new coloring, and the stance is perfect. Also, I think the chubbiness/muscliness is very suitable for Mortiking, I really like it.

Oh, and the expression is simply adorable. I like the eye very much.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I think the other one is more evil looking. I like the art on this, but am voting for the current one. Mostly because of the snarl and and chubbyness. If we had the body shape of the current one in a pose similar to the new one(minus the snarl) it would be perfect.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Another thing about the claws - yes they seem bigger and better in the Bloodred/Glacier/Galactic versions, but those are "special-pose" versions, meaning they have more intense attributes than the common poses. If these claws were just as big as special version claws, then they wouldn't be so special... Get what I mean? ;D

Maybe the claws on the Mortikings left foot (our right) might be a little sharper, but overall, they look fine as is.

Overall I like the revamp, but I think a thing or two would be better off tweaked a bit. The snarl seems a bit too short to me, as if the Mortiking's mouth was really small. Lengthening it a bit would make it look a little more menacing, because right now it looks like it's giving everybody an "I'm-bored-go-away" snarl instead of "I'm-a-huge-freaking-dino-fear-me" snarl. It seems a little... wide to me, but I guess the previous redraws had that sort of 'wideness' to them as well... Annd... other than that it looks great. And maaan, it must be difficult giving a two-fingered dinosaur expressive "hands". They came out very nice looking.

Tianaroo- While the trex was a big bulky creature, it was not a balloon. It's long muscular legs and giant head and tail helped to both support and keep the rex balanced. He scavenged because his short arms and giant size did not allow it to take down prey like the more slender, smaller velociraptor. While he was bulky, he was not fat for his size, infact he was all muscle, basically. he needed to be- in order to support his own weight and size.
something made up of mostly chub would find it very difficult even to scavenge, because after eating a meal it would only be weighed down even more, and probably want to sleep rather than be ferocious. I like the ferocity in the mortiking. I like it's old spirit.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

A lot of people are saying this guy is too muscular or too fat and is unable to move. However, keep in mind that the largest carnivorous dinosaur - the T-rex - could only reach speeds of 15-20 mph, it was clumsy and slow. The reason for it's survival was its bulky frame, weight and size which allowed it to take down wounded or weak prey, but mainly scavenge. If the Mortiking was ever compared to something in real life, it'd be more like the T-rex or some other big carnivore which would have similar characteristics. That's why this guy is so big and bulky - its sheer muscle and weight to intimidate its prey. The Velocotor, on the other hand, is the one with speed, hence why it's smaller and sleeker (even the name sounds like it comes from "velocity"). Yeah.

I do agree that the claws don't look the least bit sharp. One of the nice thing about the old one was how the nails looked like golden razor blades. I like the weightiness of the tail, but it's weird how you don't see some of the length hanging behind it's legs. I also agree that the black around its eye needs to be more triangular and sharp, and I don't like the snarl. It looks like it goes so far up that the mortiking has an invisible hand pulling up its lip in a fake smile.

Looks like another typical DNA-drawn creature. Hate it. Too fat. Mouth looks ridiculously tiny. Is there a reason why the back spine all have to point in different directions? The tail looks all right though, and properly anatomically muscled, with the thick top and skinnier bottom. The rest, not at all. Like all the other DNA fat dragons.

Hard for me to articulate how I feel, as I'm not an artist personally. I am not a fan of the re-draw though. I appreciate that it is better quality art, but I don't think the pose is right for the mortiking. And like many have said, it looks a bit too chunky. Less like a ferocious predator, and more like a lumbering beast that couldn't scared you if it tried.

I would actually love to see the old one re-drawn in the same pose and style, but with the darker coloring of the new, and the better quality art. The old one just looks much scarier. It's claws are much longer and

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Nimbus
User Avatar

I picked the current one over the revamp. The revamp’s quality of art is SO much better... but it looks like an obese dinosaur.

To me, it looks like the Mortiking went from playing something soccer or basketball to becoming the linebacker on a football team. Not that it plays sports... but it looks like it went from having speed, agility, and grace to just being bulky and muscular. Predatory dinosaurs may not have all been sleek raptors, but they certainly weren't this muscular. It looks like it would have to waddle instead of run.

I think the biggest issue is how a lot of the very long proportions suddenly became very short and stocky. The neck went from being VERY long (probably too long) to almost not existing. The hind legs are in the same boat (and the face and the body...). I’m guessing this is to make it just that much more different from the Velosotor, but I still don’t like it.

Finally, I like how thick the tail became, but don’t like how it bends. For such a thick mass of muscle, it bends like putty just to stay in the image. It’s a very severe curve and looks painful, but I’m not sure there’s a whole lot to do about it.

That said, I would love if it had a face more like the Galactic version of this pet. It has the longer face/neck and still shows all the teeth.

It's an improvement but it just looks a bit stocky? I just think it shouldn't be quite so compact looking. I absolutely love the definition and the fact that it has muscles now, especially the tail and legs and I really like the stance but Longer and slightly leaner muscles would be great ^^

Even if it's not intended to be compared to a "real" dinosaur, it should at least still look proportionate and believable in terms of anatomy. This does not.

I don't mind the fatness, but somehow it doesn't look like his feet/legs are large enough to support that kind of body mass. And I agree with others that the tail should be curved in such a way that the tip is visible; at first glance, it really does look like a stump here. But the biggest problems are in the head. It's a bit too small in itself, and the eyes do look too tiny and tired; even newer colors like Glacier and Bloodred have larger eyes than this. And the mouth is probably the worst aspect of the whole image. That tiny little sneer looks extremely out of place on a big carnivorous reptile; their mouths normally extend all the way to the back of the jaw so they can open wider and tear off big chunks of meat, etc.

As for the art itself... I didn't like the whisper-thin outlines on the Glacier Mortiking, and I don't like them on this either. Somehow the tiny delicate lines look even more out of place on a big muscular vicious reptile. And the coloring overall looks very flat. Cartoon artwork like this works better with slightly more dynamic contrasts in shading.

Kudos, however, for keeping the original color scheme and not turning it brown. Goes to show that a pet CAN still be blue or green or white without looking too identical to Dusk or Field or Arid, etc.

It's interesting to me that people keep saying it looks fat. the other one has no definition which in my mind made it look flabby. This one, with the details in the tail and the legs and chest looks more muscular than anything. I can see how people might go both ways on the mouth, but I kind of like the new one with the teeth exposed.
