O~O I'm not sure, I like them both. However, I do like that the original had a slanted eye instead of the whole round one this has. Maybe it's just a different perspective? Whatever the case, it seems the whole look I associate the mortiking with was a sort of, shy, misunderstood monster...XD Very cliche, but that's what i saw in the old look. This look is a little mean, though I love the mouth....XD

Also, about the eyes, the other colored mortikings (like the glacier) have slanted eyes that are quite narrow and long.O.o I do love both... I voted for the original just because I like the stance and eyes... But well done on this one!

The new one, to be honest... I don't like it. It looks as if it's about to topple over because it appears overweight, not muscled or toned. It doesn't seem as fierce as the other one, despite the exposed teeth. I can rather imagine it growling at someone to get away from its cheeseburger instead of to appear ferocious.

The rendering and everything is very beautiful, but if we could just combine the attitude of the old one with the artistic abilities of the new one...that would be the perfect mortiking!

It looks like Principal Greedyguts from Jacob Two-Two crossed with an unhappy Sumo wrestler who hasn't slept in weeks, if you ask me.
Since the Mortiking appears to be a meat-eating subetapet- with teeth like that, it looks like it would both be too fat to catch food and it wouldn't have enough power in it's jaws, judging by the lack of a lower jaw. And also, it looks... odd, with it's legs splayed out like that, as if it where about to lay a clutch of eggs.. The far arm, too, looks quite warped, as if it had been broken in the past. And the marking under the eye just looks like... dark circles from a lack of sleep and not like the old marking.
I think with a longer neck, a more defined jaw, less fat, more lower jaw, and perhaps a touch-up to the marking beneath the eye, this could look good.
Though, for now, I still have to stick with the old Mortiking. This one just doesn't cut it for me.

Coli: I agree actually. Once you notice the spines going both directions you can't help but notice it looks like the spine curves down his side and not up the back. can't shake it Everything else is still really great, though.

I don't think I like this revamp much at all. :/ Of course, kudos to Deo on the work, you did a fabulous job with shading and stuff as you always do, but I've still got my little... complaints? about it.

It looks chubby - as if it's on steroids. I don't really feel threatend by something that doesn't even look like it can catch me. :/ I liked the sleek shape of the older one, it looked much more like a predator.

While the old one's face says "Gtfo of my territory", I feel like the new one couldn't be bothered to say much at all. :/ Just glare tiredly at you.

Sure the art is more snazzy and detailed, but why should new always = better? I feel it's lacking the life that the old one had.

Wow, I am surprised at how close the poll is, given I have absolutely no problem with this new mortiking. It looks really great. I especially love the detail on the tail and the chest.

The only thing I find wrong with the new version is that the spines switch direction from bending down to bending upwards. This makes it appear as if the frill bends away from us, so doesn't line up with it's backbone and ends on it's left ear. Andi if I'm talking complete dutch to you let me know. Once you notice it you can't NOT notice it.

In comparison the glacier mortiking's looks straight because all the spines bend the same way

The anatomy and all looks really good, but something looks a bit off to me, with the face. Mostly the mouth. I mean, I know he's supposed to look menacing and all, but it just looks a bit.. deformed, to me. :/ Otherwise, I think it's well done. Great job to the artist.

The lineart is too thin. He looks bored, I'd rather see him without the snarl. He looks a little fat rather than super muscular. His claws are dull! Why are his claws dull?

I like his neck and his tail, but what is really killing this for me is the lack of personality behind the snarl and the lineart is WAY too thin.

I personally like how the older mortiking looked for a few reasons. while it isn't nearly as detailed as far as colouring goes, it seemed, by the pose, that it's head was tremendously heavy- the way he was crouched downward, and his heavy body and tail sort of counterbalanced it out so he wouldnt topple over.
I just think that this version looks like he has a really tiny head staped onto this huge fat body, and considering all of the bulk is in the hindquarters, he'd most likely always have trouble keeping balance. Good thing he can lean on his own tail for support.
Now, i'm not talking slim it down like a velosotor or anything, but if you slimmed the stomach and chest just slightly, and perhaps lengthened the neck or enlarged the head, it might give it a more natural and practical look. I also agree on the mouth issue. It's a really nice picture, it just seems so impractical to em, and makes the mortiking look a bit lazy instead of ferocious.

i was wondering if the same artist was resposible for all of those different colours...thanks luxe...

i don't have a problem with the chub factor here...in fact to me it looks more beefy than chubby and i don't think that's a bad thing...it's nice to have a pet that differs from others in physical build...i was however wondering about its left hand (the one on the right as we look at it)...maybe that could be a little larger...even taking perspective into account it seems a trifle small...and as for the elvis snarl (which i adore btw), perhaps the mouth itself needs to be bigger (see the bloodred Mortiking for reference)...the snarl seems to be placed a little too far forward and could possibly look better if placed a little further back on the face...having said that, i think this one is a big improvement on the last one and would like to thank DNA for all her wonderful work...

I'm real pleased with this one. It matches some of the more - dynamic colors of it's species. I so voted for the new one... BUT I think it's mouth is too small and it's claws should look a bit more.. sharp. But I really like this one. ^^

Skin, muscles, anatomy and fins are great. They show a serious upgrade in the ability of the artists now updating and drawing pets for Subeta. And I would kill to be able to draw a dragon tail that connects that well to a body and has the muscling correct enough to look like it can be carried away from the body like that.

On the down side the face seems a bit off. I think the length of the head is too short. If you are going to attach to such a massive neck a longer and/or wider head might make it look more balanced. Also change it so the eye color and the sign on the stomach match. Having them different colors messes up the overall color scheme. It pulls the eye back and forth between the two standout colors and doesn't let you focus on the overall picture.

First off, that is some insane, insane shading. Literally.

But even so, I find myself missing the slightly hunched pose the original had. I know this has to match some of the revamps, but I'll be sad to see the pose go.

Its face looks a bit.. lethargic to me. The black marking under its eye makes it look tired, and the snarl isn't pronounced enough, in my opinion. I also think the jaw is a bit too round - it makes its face look fat.

But that shading is just... wow.

While I voted for the new because it matches the more recent mortiking art styles and has much better detail and art, one thing that would make it look a bit better would be if we could see the end of the tail. At first glance it looked kind of like a stump to me. Also, the tail has a few details on it in the original which are now hidden. The spines directly behind the neck are missing. Another few things that seem off to me are: the eyes look a little more round and smaller than the galactic/glacier/bloodred versions (maybe cause of perspective? I don't know), and his mouth seems a little smaller than its supposed to be. But overall this is a great improvement - much more personality. Looks like a bully!

His claws look thick and blunt, not sharp at all. And his eyes are too tiny and tired-looking. Other than that, it's wonderful, especially the tail. Looks like he could crush a car with it ^^ If it means that the awful Bank/Vault Mortiking will be revamped, then I'm all for it!

I voted for this one I like the detail it could do with the muscles defining more though and the mouth should be bigger and more sharp teeth should show. Also I think more of the tail should be seen, there than that it's looking quite good, it's much more realistic looking than the old one. Nice work!

...Thank you for this Deo. Really, thank you so much. The mortiking has always been one of my favorites, and this revamp is just too awesome. Subeta NEEDS scary pets. They shouldn't all be adorable and loving. Know what that would make us? Neopets, where even the T-rex's are adorable. While I somewhat agree that the revamp could possibly be slimmed down a bit, I think it's perfectly fine. Kudos, Deo.

You guys seriously don't know how much I wanted to make the mortiking look more like a real dinosaur. What I did was try to fix up the old version's anatomy a bit--which is a serious wreck. Making it stand like a proper carnivorous dinosaur would've turned it into a brand new pet, and that wasn't the route I wanted to take. So comparing the new version with real dinosaurs probably isn't the best way to look at it.

Along with the mouth and pose comments, I really don't like the fact that he looks so chubby. It looks like at any minute his arteries are gonna pop right off, yanno? If that was supposed to be muscle, it needs to be redone. His overall shape is way too thick. He looks almost as big as the Dillema.

Also, his tail bugs me. The tip SHOULD be visible somewhere. His tail isn't a tiny little stub. And his clawwws. What kind of dinosaur has tiny, dull claws? If he IS going to be that big, you need to make sure every part of his is proportional, including his head. ._.; His head looks WAY too small.

I do like the quality of the art, though. c: He just doesn't have the same appeal as before.

I love his snarl.

Also, I like his "chubbiness"/intense new muscular look. It makes him seem all the more huggable. Which... Perhaps that wasn't the point on the Mortiking.

I don't mind the chubbiness, and think it gives it more personality, but the face irks me...I think it's the mouth; it doesn't look like it stretches far back enough and looks kinda...I dunno, but it makes it look kinda dorky in the face.

also, the mark under the eye...originally it has more of a triangular appearance, but rounding it off like in this version makes him look tired more than menacing.

but I have hopes for this revamp, and otherwise the art is really good
