I can only speak for myself, of course, but I feel like if we wait to speak up until the trees open and "it happens" we will be told it is too late to change anything.
I know? I wish it would have been a thing.
I disagree about taking the site down for a week tho.
Understandable but I just have a hard time understanding how staff could be like, "Let's just get the gifts out. No one will care if they don't know where their gifts came from amirite. Let's do this."
There's always the link to check the gifts you've given. Unfortunately you'd have to ping everyone you've gifted and let them know that you were the one who gifted them. Not necessarily ideal, but it does help a bit!
Giftees and their gift(s) are disappearing from peoples' lists and those are the gifts that will show up anon so unfortunately it doesn't really help if you didn't make your own list.
I just noticed 2 people missing after I posted it. I do know that one of those people already received my gifts during the glitch though. This stinks. I hope it all gets fixed!
I might be alone in this case, but I'd prefer everything going out smoothly even if it means I get my gifts from "anonymous people". I'm just anxious the try to fix this could mess things up even more, and I'm honest that I'm also a bit impatient. shrug
The Great 2015 Tree Glitch. sigh It is also so much more fun getting them on Christmas but I am waiting.
Where does it end? Where does it begin? Does it begin again, is mortality a revolving door or indeed life's final exit
@ amber Someone asked when the trees would open here: https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/846593/When-do-Christmas-trees-open-up
You'd said "It's sometime during the 25th. 😄 It really depends on when one of the programmers can be around to monitor it and make sure nothing breaks."
So.. if there was a programmer actively on-site to make sure the trees didn't break, how come the script ran for so long that 150k EDIT: user IDs were affected and the script actually had to TIME OUT rather than being shut down?
And how come the site wasn't immediately taken offline for a rollback then?
Hi everyone. We apologize that this is taking a while to resolve, but please rest assured that we will do everything we can regarding the tree issues. We absolutely understand how anxious everyone is over this, and we all feel terrible that it happened in the first place. As we're still actively digging into how to best resolve this issue so as to impact the least amount of users possible, we don't have any significant updates to provide at this time. However, as we always strive to do, we will keep the lines of communication open and let you know as we progress towards a solution.
Your continued patience is greatly appreciated, and we're so, so sorry that this has put a damper on our favorite time of the year here at Subeta.
Refering to the message from @ staff ..
Why is this message not forwarded anywhere else than here? It is much more interesting to know that it's being worked on than being in a blank about it. Not everyone look at the forum or bother to read anything else than the Shoutbox and the News post.
I feel like this whole mess will take forever to get "fixed".
So, if it cannot be fixed...we're not getting our gifts? That's not really something I want, see.
It's going to take some time. If 150k users are affected, and they send dozens of gifts on average then that's millions of items that need to be processed.
Thanks for getting in touch with us
Better getting things correct the first time, especially for something so massive D:
Yiiikes...I have to agree with what most everyone else is saying, it'd be a real bummer if this part isn't fixed. I'd feel terrible if I didn't know who to thank; I sent some really special items to friends that I didn't intend to be from anonymous. I also tried my best not to read all the stocking events while I was clearing items, didn't wanna spoil anything. That being said I understand what a nightmare this must be for the staff so thank you for all your hard work! Hopefully this glitch can be fully resolved.
Wait, slow down. 150k users are not affected by this glitch. It reached IDs in the 150ks, but there are a /LOT/ of ids in that swath that have been deleted from clearings. There are only 137k users on Subeta. 😅 Only a very small amount of the user base is affected. I don't think it's fair to accuse the programmer's of not paying attention or w/e and letting the glitch affect 150k people when it didn't. The scope of the problem is far less than some of you are making it out to be. The site WAS taken offline when the glitch was caught, and a rollback was considered. I personally wish there would have been a rollback to earlier in the day and a few days offline, to avoid all of the backlash and potential glitch abuse, but what's done is done.
Thanks for the staff update; I hope everything can be resolved soon!
I wasn't going to get involved but I do feel really strongly about this.
I agree with what most people are saying, that gifts being sent out is so much better than an incredible loss for most users. If that's the only option, it's the only option. Thankfully I don't think I've been effected by this at all, I didn't get any stocking events and my gifts given page seems accurate.
However, some of the more expencive gifts I had sent out were to new friends or people from forum games (I don't have many Subeta friends but I still wanted to spread some Lumi joy). If my gifts came through anonymously, these people wouldn't know that they're from me and I don't want people to think I was posting on the forums trying to get gifts and not send any when I claimed someone... because a lot of the gifts I sent on topics like those were worth millions of sp.
I can see anonymous gifts being okay with users who have a circle of close friends where they would be able to let their friends know what they sent or whatever but for most of my gifting that isn't really ideal for me to have to do.... nevermind the people who gifted hundreds of people and had names and gifts disappearing from their "gifts given" list.
I really do hope that this is able to be fixed, and if it is, then to not send out presents until it has been resolved. But I do agree that if there is no fix to the gifts being sent out anonymously, that is a better alternative than people losing out on the time and efforts they had put into their gifting this year.
Thanks staff for the update!

I'd say don't open the trees unless the names are attached to the gifts (if this is what will happen if any glitches aren't fixed beforehand). I want to know who to thank and who to even send something to that may have sent me something that I didn't know about, return the appreciation. :/
Otherwise, I'm kind of confused about the overall meaning of this message
Edit: Also agreeing with a few that there needs to be an Official News Post about this, so users know what's going on.
So I had a huge response type out here and then subeta did something weird and deleted it and I'm like 500% done now so my tl:dr is:
I understand this sucks for staff but you guys have cocked up the trees three years in a row now. Please run these things carefully in the future, TEST THEM BEFORE YOU RUN THEM. DELETE OLD SCRIPTS. IDEK MAN JUST BE CAREFUL.
I am super annoyed with the way that you guys have left people to delete items themselves because you didn't want to delay the site. Well now it's been 4 days, people still don't have their legitimate stuff and assholes will be ripping off the glitch because they 'didn't know' or just flat out didn't care that they had to delete items. You should have done a rollback, even if that meant taking the site down totally. Hell - even this late in the game I'd support a total rollback to before the stockings as this has been such a mess.
I know you guys are working hard and I feel for you, I do. But there have been a lot of seriously bad choices made handling this - and this really shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Don't send gifts out anonymously, that just kinda shits on all the people who spent forever picking out items for their friends. Don't.
might wanna read this thread.
I also wish that is what would have happened. In my opinion, as soon as staff realized what happened and took the site down for a while, a rollback should have happened then. A small one to at least get rid of that whole mess. But instead they chose to redirect our focus and attempt to placate us by handing out gold accounts and making all quests weekend quests, all the while digging themselves in a deeper hole.
I'm not mad at staff, nor ungrateful for the compensation rewards, nor do I pretend to know what all encompasses a rollback, but I can't help but wonder why the seemingly easiest fix wasn't chosen. I really hope staff has a viable solution soon.
(I also asked this in the news comments of the initial announcement of this unfortunate error, and looking back through this thread, others have asked the same thing; WHY is the stocking script even a thing still when they haven't been used in literally years?)
