so how could stopping the script cause the site to go down?

To me this isn't even about the wait but more so what actually happened. I am upset because of the glitch. I don't believe everybody will delete their doubles and I will be super upset if users won't know i sent the gifts to them in the first place. All of this and the fact that this happened last year as well makes me mad. I will be over it when its all said and done with however my patience is running thin and its bringing the worst out of people.
they would have to take the site down for the rollback. I'm not exactly sure why, but it was mentioned in the news post I think that it would need to be down in the 2 days. so I imagine things would get fixed while the site was down.
I am worried people won't delete their duplicates and hope staff will come up with a way to identify those people who knowingly abused that. This happened last year? I was here last year and don't remember it happening, though I had a lot of family over so I was distracted.
to me this whole thing is an accident. they didn't intend for it to happen. if you were in their situation, would you want people to get upset for something you did by accident? I don't think it's worth my energy to get upset at an accident.
I hope they get the names reattached to gifts so people aren't angry, but to me it wouldn't change anything. I gave my gifts, my job is done. I don't need any recognition. I know some people are different though. if you need to figure out who gave you what, I'd suggest a gift bragging thread and to ping your friends to it. if you gave gifts to people and would like them to know, drop a "hey did you like your gift?" comment to them and if they didn't know what you got them, do your best to remember what you did get them. this is all I can really suggest anyone to do because if they figure out that things can't get fixed, we're going to have to deal with things whether we like it or not.
doesn't mean I still don't wanna beat him up :c
I hope we get some kind of update or actual communication from staff soon, because before we know it New Years' will be upon us and there'll be minimal people around yet again eye roll
I am getting a bit impatient, I can't deny that... But the thing that's winding me up the most is the lack of communication and/or transparency about this whole fiasco.
Yet again I have read back on this thread to discover that posts from staff are being left on random threads. Why is this communication not being publicised via a news post or an official thread?
some more information on the situation would be great, even if its just a little news update blurb again. and i personally, i don't need the satisfaction of people knowing I gave them a gift. if they got it, mission accomplished. i agree about a bragging thread if people would like to know. i'm sure we all can access our list of who we gifted and make it public if need be for those who do care about that sort of thing.
i'd rather not have a rollback. these glitches actually were a blessing in disguise as this is the first lumi i have actually been able to be a part of because it ran late. no mistakes, just happy accidents. like bob ross says c:
idk man i think someone actually fucked up pretty bad here lmao
I am trying to be patient but I actually went all out and gifted a bunch of people this year and I'm itching to know what exactly is going on. Other than the first day it feels like we've just been sitting and waiting. :C
i was trying to be lighthearted, as it is the holidays and the staff of subeta are real people too, deserving of some time of their own for it. in the end these are all just silly little pixels for me, so i'm not about to get worked up over it IRL. but maybe that's just me.
the only main complain i have is this piecemeal mishmash of updates being given secondhand. just a simple OFFICIAL news blurb again should suffice, and put enough complaints to rest.
It's not so much like "gimme my stuff where's my stuff I want it now" but subeta has such a terrible track record in general that I'm starting to lose the faith/get anxious that this is actually going to be resolved.
Is it taking this long because Keith is the only one with the permissions/ability to fix this?
Or is it taking this long because it's busted to shit and there's a very good chance everything gifted is legit gone? Or is it because everything that happened between the site's last update and before the "the great stockings crash of 2015" isn't easily merging together?
I'm less antsy for my gifts and more paranoid that this isn't going to be resolved.
Edit2add:
I can't be bothered to look for the post to quote but I think I am definitely signing up for team "in 2016 I won't be using the tree feature and instead will be sending giftboxes to everyone after trees work/break the site/are done breaking the site".
[I wrote out a whole rant (edited down to whats below) on how ridiculous it is that there hasn't been any updates on the situation, shelved it, went out with my family, apparently hallucinated that a news update happened, and came back here to see that nope, still no news.]
I'm seeing a lot of very sweet posts and comments thanking staff for working on this and apologizing that it may be affecting their holidays. My better angels are on board with all that, but my more pragmatic demons have little sympathy. It may be the holidays, but when you run a holiday event every year that means someone is on the clock every year. And when theres a snafu so regularly people have contingency plans for it, thats doubly true. Whether its a mistake or accident or a planned part of the event (I'm kidding about that, I know its an accident) doesn't matter in the slightest to a lot of users. It happened, it shouldn't have happened, and the most the majority of users are demanding is a news update. And that isn't unreasonable.
I don't even care about the gifts, this is the first year I gave anything and the first year I'm possibly getting anything from anyone other than staff. I just want a news post updating me on what might be done about it. Or that something is being done about it. Or that something isn't being done about it. Or that staff has lost all hope and cast themselves into the cold uncaring sea.
Even a news post saying: "No news on trees yet. We're frankly stumped." would be sufficient for me, and it seems a lot of others want that as well. Or scheduled updates on the situation. Because otherwise I and others are left checking for news in comments and forums until we go insane. In a frankly hilarious bit of irony: All I want for Luminaire now is a news post telling me whats going on with Luminaire.
An American Badger
When this insanity first happened and there was the unfortunate news post, I was completely sympathetic and thought it was no big deal.
But now I'm really getting annoyed. I always try to be the first to be like "hey guys, cut everyone some slack..." because I love this site so much and a bunch of the people who work for it.
I mean I don't want to be melodramatic or anything, but my REAL holiday celebration comes from this site because 90% of my friends live in different states or countries, and Subeta is how we're able to share it together. It's absolutely ridiculous that this problem even happened (how do you ACCIDENTALLY run a script that shouldn't have been touched in YEARS? wtf?), and I really appreciate staff being so nice about the problem...
but....... like........... come on.
At this point though I&;m just hoping we will get our items.
Or is it taking this long because it's busted to shit and there's a very good chance everything gifted is legit gone? Or is it because everything that happened between the site's last update and before the "the great stockings crash of 2015" isn't easily merging together?
This - thinking about it makes me very anxious because it has that very "foul smell" in which I feel like something much more bigger is going on.
I was starting to feel alone about this situation! & keeping presents anon totally ruined my mood :(
ive spent money on this site because i love the variety of items although this year they are lacking something...
Out of all the activities on this site im not sure why they cant get the christmas trees right ya know. I would spend way more real money but i get bored with the lack of plots going on. i wish everyday i could be stuck to my computer all day like i used to be.
Cleared by staff - maximum height is 325px.
The only thing that's got me annoyed is listenin' to people whinin' about how "staff is taking too long", and "why is it not fixed omg it's been fucking four days" and, "I want my presents", or "we need real professionals running this site" etc. etc..
WE GET IT. SHUT UP ALREADY. It's not gonna make staff work any faster.
With some of the atrocious entitled behavior and shit I've seen in the news comments and other places, some of y'all don't deserve presents this year. COAL FOR EVERYONE INSTEAD!

Maybe there was a big red Do Not Push button. C'mon, guys. We all know we HAVE TO push the Do Not Push button. Why they have a Do Not Push button? Idk. Let's just keep calm and panic.
Anyway, I don't mind the wait. I can understand wanting updates in the news/announcement thread, but personally, I'm fine with any update I can see via Admin Posts. This time of year is tough, but I think they handling things better than how they use to. Hopefully this gets resolved soon so we can start the new year off stress/worry-free.
I agree that an official update would be nice but I'm fine with waiting a little longer. I just hope it doesn't take longer than a week.
I think more than having to wait (which is tough but manageable), I am just desperate to find out what's happening without having to track down the information. I mean, this is a repeat offense when it comes to major events, both "good" and "bad" and needs to be addressed in some fashion. Ping siteupdate to the post, whatever, but make sure when info goes out, that more than just a small audience sees it. Not everyone surfs the forums for information, myself included.
With that being said, yeah it sucks to wait for presents and I'll be sad if things I sent go out without my name being on them but the most important gifts I sent will be to friends that are going to rave about what they got and express curiosity about where it came from, which I will be glad to let them know one way or the other.
does have a point about complaining though. It's the easy way out and we shouldn't do it. We can have sympathy and patience, it's not that hard.

Boom
