May just be me, but it seems like we've had more issues from the new update than before the update...
If y'all want to blame anyone for a lack of updates, blame me. The entire thing is my fault in the first place, exacerbated by the fact that I didn't bring my laptop home for Christmas with me.
I'm on a plane right now on my way back to LA, and I will probably be pulling an all-nighter working on this, but that still doesn't mean It'll be ready tomorrow.
But the reason there haven't been any updates is that everyone has been waiting on me. So it's my fault the wrong script was run, and it's my fault you're all still waiting.
I can't even give an ETA until I really start looking to see how much of the data is missing. But right now I'm importing all of the missing gifts back into trees from our most recent backup before Christmas (which, unfortunately, was 12/20).
That means for about 1000 people, we're (mostly just me though) going to have to go through the logs to reinsert all of the items that were gifted to them between 12/20 and 12/25. And the data for who gave them those presents is 100% gone, so I'm sorry, but there won't be any fixing that. There is no way to recover it. But anything gifted on or before 12/20 will be given out as normal, showing who gave it.
All of this info and more will be posted in an official news post when we know more and have an ETA about when you can expect the trees to open. But like I said, there just haven't been any updates to give because everyone's been waiting on me to get back to a real computer.

This is for items given between DECEMBER 21ST AND DECEMBER 25TH ONLY, right?
There won't be a magical fix because the data doesn't exist anymore. So, some gifts, not for everyone, but for some people, won't have names, for all of them.
I'm sure a lot of people will back me when I say please don't run yourself ragged working on this! Get your sleep and tackle things fresh when you've had a good night's rest. There's no point working when you're exhausted just coming off a plane. No one can work like that. Take your time and get things working right. I don't mind waiting at all if things can be fixed correctly. I'm sure others will feel the same. Please just take care of you first before taking care of this! You matter more than any virtual gifts do.

Thank you so much for the info and the reason why it can't be restored fully. I'm sure we are all disappointed but I think that makes a big difference... Just us understanding what is going on. We do want this fixed, we also realize you are human, please do what it takes to fix it right, while still being a human, aka eating, sleeping etc. We've waited this long, 8 additional hours will not kill us. Please don't beat yourself up. Just take care of business which first and foremost is getting home safely.
Also, don't beat yourself up, it would have been easy for staff to give an update saying they were waiting for developers to return from vacation where they were unreachable. This is not all your fault.

I'm one of the 1k+ users who did gifting after the 20th. In fact, I believe I did mine on the 24th, because I was waiting on a shop till achievement before pulling my funds out and blowing it all in a spending party.
EVEN SO, it's understandable that the data's gone. It really sucks (especially for my case with gifting my roommate, since I sent a ridiculous amount of gifts and have no way to know whether they're going to receive them all nor have any way to check any longer).
BUT shit happens and I'm glad that the mess is salvageable for a lot of players, rather than no players at all.
Thanks again for staff dedication in trying to solve this. I know a lot of users are upset and probably not everyone's being the kindest with their patience running out, but please don't treat yourself too harshly over this!

Thank you Grace for summarizing what happened. It's a much needed update. I have complete faith in you sorting it out, even though it's certainly a difficult situation.
Thank you for the update on what's been happening and why update info was not out from staff. Shit happens, don't be so hard on yourself. Its a bummer that data from those days is gone, but its a thing that happened and everyone can deal with it. You're all working to get the trees fixed and that's really the bigger thing out of all of it. Hopefully your flight home is is safe and you can factor in some rest there as well.
Thankyou for the update, a lot of people assumed we were waiting on Keith as to why we hadn't gotten an update. Please don't hurt yourself trying to rush back to appease us grumps. I hope you had a good christmas and vacation otherwise!

I'm still curious how this even was possible in the first place, ? Why was the stocking code still even around at all, it should have been dismantled after Trees took over, and especially after last year where some gifts were duplicated (though that may have been unrelated).
I am sad to hear that gifts given in the last few days will be unknown. In the future can the username be stored with the item info? Shouldn't that have been in the logs anyway? "User A sent Item 1 to User B". Is the log just "Item 1 sent to User B"?
Regardless I think you should take a breather and not pull an all nighter. For both your own sanity and because sleepy people tend to make mistakes and I really don't want you to have to tell everyone that everything is gone because you hit the wrong button :P

The fact that you take ownership for this makes me want to hug you even more than ever You're a darling for wanting to work all night, but please don't. A few more hours or a day or two more of waiting won't make much difference after waiting this long.
