here’s a spot to leave your feedback on the new mysterious melody format! the setup is designed to group everyone into cozy lil squads of 4, alongside the iconic luminaire queen herself, melody.

i’m super hyped about this change, especially bc of how smooth it was to implement using the same building blocks as the compost feature. there’s already a great thread with feedback on the kumos site layout, and i’ve been working w/ a designer to get it feeling better than the old site. we’re making moves, i promise.

what i’ll be keeping tabs on

this new format gives us way more data than past years. here’s what i’ll be tracking over the next few days to make sure reality checks my expectations: β€’ users joining groups but not sending any items: this will tell me if there’s a friction issue somewhere. β€’ plateaus at 3-item sends: if we see this, i’ll dig into why it’s happening.

i’m also watching the value of items contributed, just to make sure my mental math isn’t off (no, i’m not expecting 68 million sP πŸ˜‚).

finally, i’ll be jumping into individual pools to double-check that melody’s donations make sense and to catch any clever trolling attempts before they become a problem.

I just hope it gets better for mobile. I play 100% from my phone and while small areas to tap are frustrating on the old site, I can deal with that. I’m so lost on kumos but that’s partially my fault for not spending much time on it, but it also just seems to not be optimized for mobile yet.

I did one round during the GA test for MM and found it more enjoyable than I remembered MM being in the past. So I am looking forward to it :)

I play a lot from my phone too. I don’t if this will help, but I zoomed out of Kumos on mobile (to 50% zoom on my iPhone in Safari) and it works so much better. It comes out to the actual size I want the site to be.

I’ll have to try that if I have to deal with kumos for an extended period of time. Thanks!

Honestly having users be in little squads of 4 (+ Melody) is a fantastic idea. I also love that it's capped at 5 items. I stopped participating in MM in previous years because I couldn't guarantee I'd be online often enough to give a fair amount of items back, so it became more stressful for me than it's worth. I LIKE giving gifts, but don't always have a lot of time to be an active MM. Being able to chuck 5 items into a pile and just wait for them to be distributed is way more enjoyable for me!

Despite the visual frustrations on mobile I’ll admit it’s easy to use! (Going to try that 50% thing tomorrow.) I only participated in MM a couple times over my 17-ish years and the huge freedom was part of the reason. I appreciate this is capped so, so much. The only other thing I’d like is if there was an overall β€œleaderboard” for items sent or something.

Or! I see there’s tag-like things on the site? Mine says Wearable, Booster, Bookβ€” things like that. If we could prioritize 1-2 types and show those types ranked when we join the group I think it’d really help as a gifter. There are so many items on site; and maybe I get a book-heavy group but only send boosters/wearables. If the group ranking showed 60% book, 20% wearable, whatever, it could influence what I send in. Of course the prizes are random, so it isn’t guaranteed, but it’s the only β€œhuh… that’d be cool” change I can think of atm.

Regardless, this is awesome and may actually get me to participate more often. (And really cool you were able to base it off the recycling thing!)

love to hear this ☺️

these stats are cool to see too! I wonder what those 68mil high end items are lol

definitely agree that the groups and the item cap are very positive, stress-reducing changes that make the whole thing more chill and fun

I wish that in our shops and vault, that we could have the option to do price ranges ie: 1m-5m or 5m-10m or 42m-42,424,242/100m.

Could the item value distribution be explained please? Are you saying that a user is limited on how much items can cost per item or total? or am I totally misreading that?

I have somehow contributed 6/5 items to my group pool despite it only displaying 4. I also cannot figure out how to change the items I've contributed. Neither clicking the picture nor the text seems to make any changes, but it keeps accepting new items, anyway?

picking items to throw in gave me the same thought about price ranges, so +1 to this!

Let's see how your stats feel about all these unpriced items I could throw in there lol.

In vault you can edit at the top to Sort by Userprice, next to it, order Descending. This is what I do and it will stay sorted unless you take something out in your same window instead of a different one.

It sounds like the item value distribution is based off of the value of items users are putting into the pool.

my read of the purpose of 's idea was a tool for finding not the most expensive or least expensive items in our vaults/shops, but a specified mid range of items. I don't want to send junk but I also don't want to send my 100mil valuables. I found it easiest to do descending order (or > a certain point in my shop) anyway and to just skip over the really big stuff, but that could be streamlined with a range tool.

I know this, but after almost 18 years... I have so much stuff ( many of which there are several of each item and would rather use what I have multitudes of ) in my vault... that is why I would rather be able to price range. :) Which brings up another point: would be nice to do price ranges and stack size. lol

totally agree!

I've made a ton of huge improvements to the way that we get items, and 🀞those will translate to being able to do better filters on places like the vault and inventory soon!
