Hey all! Just wanted to chat about books.

I'm currently reading The Vorrh by Brian Catling. I picked it up on a whim while wandering around a bookstore in Portland.

After that, I'm gonna read Andy Weir's new novel - Project Hail Mary. I'm gonna try to get a group to read it because I'm jonesing for a book club.

What are you reading? If you're not reading anything right now, what's your favorite book?

I am currently reading a horror short story collection! I'm curious about the one written by Agatha Christie in it. I also just got The Catcher in the Rye as I never read that. It was one of three novels they wanted us to read in 5th grade, but they split up what class worked on which book and I had to read The Lord of the Flies back then.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

that's awesome! I love Catcher in the Rye, but I've never read Lord of the Flies!

Looks cool. I've never really gotten into Manga but I did love reading Saga for a while.

My current read is To the Power of Three by Laura Lippman. It claims to be "a novel of suspense" (that exact phrase is on the cover), but so far the only suspense I've felt over it is for when it might get good. I'm more than half done with it, I'm fair convinced it's just not a good book, but I'm too far in to quit now. (On the plus side, it'll give me space for another book on my shelves since I'll be tossing it into my box of books to donate.) Not certain what my next read will be, I'll have to raid my shelves and pick out something soon for my next visit home. Maybe I'll go with a tried and true favorite author like Neil Gaiman. Or maybe I'll try to ferret out my beau's mum's Anne Rice books and see about borrowing the books I'm missing from The Vampire Chronicles.

Finished the last book I mentioned, it was, as I thought, simply not a very good book. Then started Paper Towns by John Green yesterday, aaand... Finished it the same day. It was decent. I'm not, like, over the moon for it or anything, but I didn't feel like it was time wasted reading it like the previous book. Now I'm reading The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. Hopefully it lasts longer than the John Green novel or I'm going to have to either bug my mum for books or raid my beau's mum's collection.

Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. Boy! is it heavy and incredibly paralleled to what we're going through right now.

I LOVE THOSE BOOKS!! Is it your first time, or is it a re-read?

I'm currently reading Dune for the very first time in preparation for the movie :)

- This is my first time. Never heard of the author until I came across the book on eBay. Surprised me that it was the first in a trilogy. Now I have to track down the other two books. ^__^

The Star Trek: Destiny series. :) I'm liking it so far!

I wanted to get Dune but it was like $50 lmao ;; Might see if the library has it or if I can get a digital copy for less.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

i am currently reading dune. i'm about 20% through.

i have wanted to read this book since early high school, so for about 10 years. but i never read really growing up because school forced it on you and i hated being forced to read stuff i wasn't interested in so i never picked up the hobby.

now my best friend managed to get me to read a couple books they liked and i got hooked, and i'm up to over 70 books read this year. my copy of dune is about 670 pages, and i could never imagine reading a book that long, but i'm finally doing it!!

I love how many people are reading Dune for the first time! I'm only about 20% in too. I mostly read ebooks nowadays because I can read em on my computer at work and no one's the wiser ;)

hate the tell you the bad news, but it's GOING to be a trilogy... it's just not completed yet and we don't know when the 3rd is actually ever going to come out. The second book is Wise Man's Fear and the third one is still being written. There's a couple novellas you can read after if you're still hankering for more. Slow Regard of Silent Things focuses on Auri and The Lightning Tree focuses on Bast.

Oh! Did not know that. I assumed the third book was already out. Thank you for telling me. Haven't met Auri yet but I am curious about Bast so I'll see if I can track those two novellas down.

Also reading Basic Spanish by Dorothy Richmond in addition to The Name of the Wind.
