Stone Kiss wound up being mediocre at best. It started okay, but quickly grew tiring; I don't know if it was because I'd not read any of the other books following the main characters, but it felt so contrived, and if there's one thing you don't want for a mystery book, it's for it feel contrived and forced. At least, I don't want a mystery novel like that. One more book for the donation box, I guess. Pulled The Keys to the Street by Ruth Rendell for my next read. I'm not sure what to expect from it, so I'm setting my bar low to avoid disappointment.

I'm reading A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine, the second part of the Teixcalaan series, and it's honestly been Really Good! Recommending this series to everyone who has enjoyed The Locked Tomb series, if you need some more wlw and sci-fi in your life.

Also finished The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta not too long ago, and it made me weep. It's a beautiful, beautiful story about a teen boy discovering himself through drag.

I've been looking for a copy of LOTR on audiobook from my library but on a less exciting note, I've just been reading my anthro textbook lol

The Keys to the Street started out seeming like a sort of mystery/suspense novel, but then somehow took a left turn into romance novel. It wasn't BAD, and as far as romance novels go, it was probably the best I've ever read (which, honestly, probably isn't saying much, I LOATHE romance novels), but was just... weird. Meh, another book for the donation box. (I really need to find somewhere to take my donation books, the box is starting to overflow...) Next up is The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis. I liked the Netflix series rather well, and was quite jazzed to find it was based on a book. I sampled it a long while back, and I figure it's finally time to get round to actually reading it, give myself a bit of a palate cleanser after all the random subpar books I've been pulling from my bookshelf. >>;

Step-Stalker and I can't remember the author.

It's a taboo romance so not recommended for those under 18 years old.

The Queen's Gambit was really good, I'm kinda sad that I finished it. ;w; I was surprised by how well the Netflix series followed the book, too. They took a few dramatic liberties in the show, and left out a few little things, but it was as close to one-to-one as I've ever seen visual media based on a book be. Back to bookcase roulette now, though, so I can make space for inevitably acquiring more books. >>; The winner this time is Killer Looks by Laura Young. I bought it secondhand from a library sale, but it doesn't look as if it has ever been read; I'm not sure if that's possibly a bad omen... Guess I'll find out!

Finishing up Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel at the moment( I'm within the last 100-200 or so pages) and probably going to read Overstory by Richard Powers next since it's been on my TBR list since it was initially published in 2019.

Currently reading Myrrys by Anniina Mikama. It's in Finnish, and tells a story about an orphaned boy who ends up apprenticing for the local wise man and mage. It's been such a long time since I've read any Finnish literature, but there's a charm to nature descriptions that I love above everything else.

Before this I read Jeff Vandermeer's The Southern Reach - trilogy (Annihilation / Authority / Acceptance). Liked the first book, not too big on the other ones.

I just finished Piranesi by Susanna Clark. I really recommend it, it's a very strange fantasy book that starts off a little slow and rather chaotic but comes together in the end. Sticks with you when you finish it. Won't say any more than that as it's really best to go in without knowing much about it.

Now I'm rereading Skyward by Brandon Sanderson since I need to prepare for his latest novel of the series, Cytonic. Also recommend for those who like sci-fi.

Killer Looks turned out to be rather an awful book... The premise was okay, but the main character pretty much spent all her time being like "I'm full of raging hormones, I want to jump every good looking guy that happens my way!" And just... ugh, not the sort of character I enjoy. On top of that, the plot was so very predictable. Pulled Shelter by Jayne Anne Phillips for my next read. It looks to be a complete departure from pretty much everything else I've read recently, hopefully it won't be any worse than the previous book.
