The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was fantastic~ I'll have to snag the complete edition with the rest of the books from my library sometime so I can read the whole series. My favorite character was Marvin the robot, and I feel like that must say something about me... Next up is Midden by Julia Bouwsma; it's a poetry collection and likely won't take long to finish.

The Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie

The final book in the First Law trilogy. I'm slowly making my way through, have not been in the best of reading moods lately.

Midden was an interesting read. It helped me learn that I REALLY hate deletion/erasure poems. They give me a headache, seeing all the blank spaces, trying to process the proper reading order of clusters of words, all the weirdly dangling punctuation marks... Now I'm reading Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs by Sharon Sakson. The premise seemed interesting, hopefully it'll be a decent read.

EDIT (10/19): Paws & Effect wasn't a great read for me. The stories about the dogs were decent, but the writer's tone was... Well, it left a lot to be desired, to put it nicely, and rather ruined the experience. Started The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George. Seems like it might be okay, so long as long the work doesn't lean too far into the sexy romance gobshite. (I really hope it doesn't, I love the idea of a bookshop boat...)

EDIT (10/27): The Little Paris Bookshop was decent. It would have been better for me if it had leaned a little more into the chosen family/platonic love themes rather than leaning so heavily into passion/romantic love. Now I'm reading Zorro by Isabel Allende. This one shouldn't fail me, I enjoy a good Zorro story.

Since it's Halloween, I decided to sit down and read my Satanic bible and book about different kind of magics and spells and all that whitchy stuff. Weird cause I've had them for quite some time and I haven't decided to read them until now. I was skimming one of them and found a section about superstition. Did you know it's considered bad luck to put your left shoe on first?

Zorro was, in fact, a great no-fail book! Someone fighting the good fight for justice and uplifting the downtrodden? Yes, please! Now I'm reading Milkman by Anna Burns. It's strange in a stylistic sense, but is so far a decent read. (Which is good, I was terrified I wouldn't be able to find a single Booker prize winner I actually WANTED to read to fill in that space on my book bingo card...)

EDIT (11/4): Milkman surprised me, it was actually a good read! (Especially after I finally pieced together the where and when of the setting.) Started The Tensorate Series by Neon Yang last night. I am already in love with it; magic, fantasy creatures, queer representation, what's not to love? EDIT (11/7): The Tensorate Series was so good. SO. GOOD. If you like things magical and queer, I would definitely recommend this. Started on Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens last night. (I'm sick and have way too much time on my hands for reading now... I'll have to send my beau to the library again soon.) Can't go wrong with a classic.

Goblin by Josh Malerman. I would really recommend this author especially if you like reading Joe Hill or Stephen King! My personal favorite by this author includes Unbury Carol, Inspection, and Bird Box which the beloved Netflix Movie was based off of.

The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik. It's the 3rd in a dark academia fantasy series and it's great!

I am currently reading The Promise by Pearl S. Buck. Is an historical novel about the chinese war against japan and how the influence of other countries affected a small family.

I haven't had much time to keep reading it since its a bit heavy (lots of foreign names and historical context) and also having dyslexia makes it hard sometimes to read too often. But i would totally recommend it as its a book not many people knoe about

Oliver Twist was a worthwhile read for me. Going through some shit recently, so it felt sort of cathartic, the way the novel ends. Like, it's not an overall feel good story, but the end is still fitting, and hopeful, and I needed that. Beau went to the library for me today, so my reading materials have been replenished! Does Santa Exist? by Eric Kaplan is the first up. I let my beau have discretion to choose something for my "philosophy or spirituality" book bingo square (my literal stipulations were 'just choose something that won't make me feel worse'), and this is what I got! It's reading surprisingly quickly, and is actually quite amusing.

I'm reading Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh with my book club. It's nice to revisit a childhood classic, and the story and illustrations are so charming.

Does Santa Exist? read way faster than I expected, I finished it in one night... It was entertaining enough, though it read like a college philosophy text. Concluded in about the way I expected. Neuromancer by William Gibson is up next. Seems like some sort of Matrix, Blade Runner kind of book? The intro intimates that this novel was one of the forerunners that pioneered the cyberpunk genre. All I know is that it sounded interesting enough and I hope I don't wind up hating it.

I had no idea some people out there have such a superstition. Maybe this is where the saying of "we started on the wrong foot" comes from. who would have thought? How did the reading go? ;p

I'm currently reading "strange ink" by gary kemble. Why am i such a slow reader? well, i do know why: it takes me a while to get into the story, so this could be a reason why.

I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.

Neuromancer was... okay. Really could have done with a lot less, ah, hanky panky, in my opinion, but I'm not sure what I really should have expected out of something that was originally published as a pulp fiction novel. All in all, it wasn't bad, but it really wasn't all that the jacket quotes tried to make it out to be, and it suffered from pretty poor pacing, especially at the end. Started Pachinko by Min Jin Lee last night. Wasn't expecting such a large book when I put it on the list for my beau to pick up at the library; maybe it'll last me more than a couple of days. Getting awfully tired of hanky panky as a plot device, though. Why do so many of the recommendations for my library's book bingo do this??? At this rate I feel like I'm going to have to suggest the staff curate a separate list without sexy hijinks next year because I'm so sick of it.

EDIT (11/16): Finished Pachinko yesterday... It was not good, in my opinion. Which is probably a weird thing to say about a nearly five hundred page novel that I was reading voluntarily and could have stopped reading at any time, but after I get past a certain point in a book, I am committed to finishing it, even if I hate it. And boy did I really hate most of this book. Way too much time in the sheets, way too much God and Jesus, it all just left an awful taste in my mouth. And the kicker is that I head heard good things about this novel. Clearly what I consider good is far divorced from what the average person considers to be good, bleugh. Have to wait until I can send my beau to the library tomorrow to post my next book, I'm out of library books now. ;w;

Hey all! I just finished Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao.

If you're down for an understandably feral protagonist in a medieval china/sci-fi mashup or just want a great book about very literally fighting the patriarchy, I can't recommend it enough. The concept is so weird but the writing makes you believe it anyway. Zhao is also just hilarious by herself, I highly recommend looking her up lol

Started Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens last night. Honestly, I hate it. .__. Another book with way too much focus on, ah, anatomy. I mean, I wasn't really expecting to like it, it's just to fill the "celebrity recommendation" space for my book bingo, and I trust most celebrity recommendations about as far as I can throw the celebrity (and I can't even throw my own cats right now, so tossing a whole person is well beyond my purview), but somehow this is managing to disappoint even my incredibly low expectations.

I'll throw people for you, that book was hot trash and the author is wanted for questioning about an actual murder.
