I am so glad you agreeee! ;w; I finished the book yesterday, and it was painful to get through! Didn't even know that about the author, now I feel like I need to shower after reading that book, it has tainted me, haha~ (And it was apparently made into a movie??? Ugh, who thought that was a good idea...)

Started a much better book after the last one; I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story by Anthony Daniels. Which is literally just Daniels writing about his experience playing the iconic gold droid from Star Wars, but it is very entertaining, I'll probably finish it today. (My beau did a fantastic job picking this one out.)

EDIT (11/23): I Am C-3PO was fantastic~ Honestly, I'd recommend it even to people who aren't into Star Wars, especially if they've ever wanted a glimpse behind the scenes of movie making, or wanted to know a little more about the people inside the costumes of films. It's also comedic and heartwarming in turns. Emperor of the Eight Islands by Lian Hearn was after that. I finished it in a couple of days. The author is a favorite of my beau, though this series hasn't made that one's read list yet. I really enjoyed it; it's basically like one of the old Japanese samurai novels, but set in magical fantasy medieval Japan where guardian spirits and oni and the like physically exist. Now I'm reading the second novel of the series, Autumn Princess, Dragon Child. I'll probably have my beau pick up the second half of the series on the next library run. >>; EDIT (11/26): Just finished up Autumn Princess, Dragon Child yesterday; I am definitely sending my beau after the last two books in the series, it's so good! Started Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn. This is the series my beau HAS read, it was a teenage favorite. It's also weirdly popular at my library, we've been waiting MONTHS for it to come available. EDIT (11/30): My beau went to the library for me yesterday, bless, so I have reading material again! (That isn't the awful looking book I pulled from my bookshelf that I've been avoiding reading.) I... may have simply asked for practically the entire Lian Hearn section to be brought to me. >>; Across the Nightingale Floor was so good, though, I just had to have the rest of THAT series, too, along with the rest of The Tale of Shikanoko! Decided I'd start with Shikanoko, so I'm reading Lord of the Darkwood. These books read so fast, I'm about halfway through it already, and only started it last night. I know they're SUPPOSED to get on my nerves, but the antagonists are really grinding my gears in this one. They're well written.

Having recently finished a sci-fi/fantasy novel, I'm now reading chick-lit. Because I love a very wide variety of genres and maybe like to confuse people too. XD

The book I am now reading is called "From Notting Hill With Love... Actually". My parents gave it to me for Christmas quite a few years ago, and I've only just got round to reading it. So far, it's fun and light-hearted, and I take it to work with me to read on my commutes. :)

Started The Tengu's Game of Go by Lian Hearn a couple nights ago. It's the last novel in The Tale of Shikanoko series. And now that I'm this far in, I've started to piece together that this is technically about the ancestors of the characters from the Tales of the Otori series. Which was a bit of a surprise, but a pleasant one!

EDIT (12/4): Finished The Tengu's Game of Go last night; it was so good, I just couldn't put it down. Now I'm reading the second Tales of the Otori novel, Grass for his Pillow by Lian Hearn. EDIT (12/6): On to the third Otori novel, Brilliance of the Moon. These books are so good, I'm going to be sad when I finish them because I don't think there are any other Lian Hearn novels at the library. ;w;

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas.

I devoured the rest of the series already, lmao. Between doctors' appointments and ER trips with my father, it's helped keep me sane during long hours in medical buildings.

Finally finished Brilliance of the Moon. Lian Hearn is too good at writing at antagonists, I had to take frequent breaks from this one because I was getting so angry while I was reading. On to the next chronological book in the Tales of the Otori series, The Harsh Cry of the Heron.

EDIT (12/18): I ended up taking The Harsh Cry of the Heron back without finishing it. Just don't have the mental fortitude to deal with the antagonists right now, maybe I'll pick it up again at a later date. Was browsing the online catalog for my library and happened to find that they acquired the first books of the October Daye series (in October, fittingly enough), so I'm now reading the first novel of the series, Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire. I was irritated on one of my first visits to this library when they were missing the first three or so novels, and ONLY the first three or so novels, of the October Daye series, so I'm really excited to be able to start reading it now. EDIT (12/24): Finished Rosemary and Rue last night, it was so good! If you like fairy stories and mystery novels, the October Daye series is definitely worth a look. Started A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire last night, the second October Daye novel. I'm not even a hundred pages in yet and it is already fantastic. EDIT (12/27): Finished A Local Habitation last night; my only real complaint was how predictable I found the mystery's solution to be. Still a good book and well worth the read, though! Now it's on to Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire. I was really excited to find the library had acquired the InCryptid series, hopefully it lives up to my expectations!

Finished Discount Armageddon a while ago. It was a great read! There's mystery, action, cryptids, and the smidge of romance isn't overpowering or explicit. Honestly, I don't think I need much more in a book. New year, new book bingo now, though. Picked up The Fool Dies Last by Carol Miller. Some sort of mystery with occult themes? I like the writing style so far, and the plot doesn't seem to suck, so...

Today I started Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. One of my ambitions in life is to read every Discworld novel, and this is the oldest one that I haven't read yet.

I've been slowly reading my way through "The Kingdom of God is Within You" by Tolstoy. It's a major work of (Christian) anarchism.

Finished The Fool Dies Last last night, it was decent. Some of the plot points/events were a bit... disjointed? Just, there were parts that were jarring to me and seemed out of place or like they could have used a little more lead up/wind down to kind of... smooth out the rough edges. I still didn't hate it, though. Some of the romance-y bits were kinda, ehhh, but I think that's just a me thing since I don't much enjoy romance in my books. The ending was also kind of weird, but I went into this book knowing it was part of a series, so the abrupt curtain drop isn't really a huge deal when considered in those circumstances. That being said, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to find the second book. Current book is And Now I Spill the Family Secrets by Margaret Kimball. A graphic novel memoir to fill a book bingo space (hopefully, working under the assumption that I've interpreted the adjective "graphic" correctly). After reading the inner flap blurb, it sounds like it might be in a similar vein to Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, so I'm tentatively hopeful for the contents.

And Now I Spill the Family Secrets wasn't bad. I mean, it was certainly interesting, but not quite what I was expecting. (It was less a graphic novel, more a literal memoir that happened to have some related illustrations thrown in; the images didn't really add to the tale or anything for me. So where I was expecting something more like a comic like Fun Home, what I got was a short memoir with illustrations of the settings.) Next up is An I-Novel by Minae Mizumura. A semi-autobiographical work about the author deciding to move back to Japan to become a Japanese-language author. (At least, according to cover blurb that's what it should be, we'll see!)
