I know there's another server thread, but I don't care. This isn't about petitioning to get more servers, it's about the ones we have.

We've been told time and time again, "moving here will help." And time and time again, we believe it will work. Except, it doesn't. I don't understand what's going on with the site. Why there are 502's every third page during something that is refresh heavy on day 4. It's my understanding that staff has the appropriate amount of servers to handle this, so, what the hell is going on? (And why is not fixed after FOUR days.)

I think I speak for everyone when I say, we all wouldn't be pissed to hell if we had some communication. WHY are the servers acting up? Are they ALL currently active/running? If not, why? If they are, why the hell are we having such a refresh heavy plot when we don't have enough servers to handle it? Why can't staff just be upfront about these problems while they're happening, ON SITE. (IDGAF if you've posted on twitter or Facebook or whatever. We have staff boards. Use them.)

This is the same old song and dance, and I know the site is better than this. We've had plots before that were lag free, so, what gives? What is so different this time around?

This point sums up a lot of my frustrations right now.

Left in the dark, I am pretty upset about all the issues going on with the site. I feel like if we were given some information (and not just when the site is collapsing in on itself, but an update in general on what is being done going forward would be really nice) it would help some people feel less upset about it. Right now it just feels brushed to the side or ignored without information.

If you check our status site (which gets linked when the site is down and has a forum in site updates), you'll see we've been investigating and monitoring a lot of the issues happening. It's better to update the status page than constantly posting on the forums because you can still access the Subeta Status page when the site is down!

Like Amber said, we're trying to consolidate all of this information to our Status Site. The reason is really simple: it's there if the site is down. If Subeta isn't running, you have to go to facebook/twitter/tumblr/myspace to get that information.

Here it's in one place that is persistent. We're going to get better at writing what are called postmortems where we write basically what went wrong, and how we're avoiding having that issue happen again in the future.

Is it possible to have this site linked to somewhere convenient ON the site when it's up too? Because when we get 502s and 504s or whatever, I don't see that link anyways so it'd be nice in between the breaks to know where to go to look.

Congratulations. Neither one of you answered my questions.

And I understand using that site when Subeta is down. Subeta is not down. But lets go ahead and check that out.

Awesome. This is great information. Except it's 3+ hours old now, and nothing is resolved.

Again, this isn't really all that helpful in the end, if you don't know it exists. Last I knew, the status site was non-functional. I've also seen people saying they couldn't access the site when the status site said it was working fine.

Since the entirety of Subeta doesn't know about that site (or whether it's working), perhaps it would be a good idea to, i dunno, make a news post with a link? Or make that little blue bar appear at the top of the page saying something like "Hey. We're aware of the issues! Please check (LINK) for status updates." Not that hard to be preemptive.

it's linked in the footer that's on every page! :)

[edit] apparently that was just recently added! I remember it being linked there when the status site was first added on the site so I guess I didn't remember it was gone xD but it is back there now so that is good :)

We've done a lot of upgrading over the past day, and you should (hopefully) not see any more 502 errors.

We're addressing the source of the lag now, but it's basically hundreds of users moving items from various parts of the site to donate. It's a good opportunity for us to tighten up those areas of the site, but totally sucks, obviously.

that addresses it I think =)

I would like to know why staff made no official comment about the major glitch yesterday morning that lasted for five hours and severely impacted Team Gold.

i&;m sorry you feel that the fix wasn&;t fair to your team. the activity was fixed, and team saggi was moved about to where they should have been had it not happened. i took into account their own speed boosts, as well as the approximate amount of time they&;d have spent on obstacles had everything been running as it should have. it&;s bad luck that steele got back-to-back obstacles right afterward, but that&;s all it was. luck.

And for ongoing issues we continue to make tasks. You'll notice that it has pieces listed as partially degraded performance.

This has been posted around. It's now listed in the footer, available on every page.

The news is not the place for this kind of information specifically because it changes so quickly, and often.

  1. I'm not going to hunt around the site to various miscellaneous places to find where someone has addressed something. I know that staff posts exist. Frustrating/hard to get to when the site is down constantly AND I need to participate in the damn plot. When the site is so dodgy, it becomes an either/or thing.

  2. I don't have the footer, because it covers stuff at the bottom of the page. Or at least it did when I blocked it forever ago. Also, no idea status was placed there. Pretty sure I'm not the only one.

Again, just because this is common/easy knowledge to you, doesn't mean it is to everyone else. I've been here for what, almost 10 years? I too have to remember not everyone is going to know what I know. I mean, there are still people who don't use the forums.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm really not. I just know staff can do better, because they have in the past. 4 days with no communication on site is insane.

I don't know about but personally, that does not come across as "staff's official statement on the glitch" but rather, a member of staff trying to pacify upset users about how the glitch was 'fixed'.

An official statement would be either in the news (ideally) or in the Site Update forum (with the appropriate ping used). This is where players should think to look for important info. Not page 20 of a user-maintained FAQ thread.

admin posts is a great tool that makes it easy to find staff replies to users about these kinds of things. it makes it a lot easier to find them than looking through each thread.

Yup, I know that. However I still believe that when there is a glitch that impacts many players for an extended period of time, the best course of action for staff is to make their communication about how the glitch was handled as clear as possible and in a timely manner. That didn't occur here.

Thank you. I actually had no idea that was listed in the footer, as I never saw any kind of announcement on it. Which kind of circles back to what this board is about I think.

--

I don't see why a thread couldn't be made and updated onsite with some of this information / small updates rather than making everyone hunt through comments / news posts / forums / etc to find the information. I guess it just seems a bit silly to me. And while an argument could be made that "If we updated every time--- it would take away time to fix---" the problem is that when it's not just a quick issue, but instead lasts literal days there should be /some kind/ of easily accessible information. To me that's all that matters, that the information is more easily accessible. Because as of this week, it's a lot of hunting and then not remembering the status site or where to find it :X

I'm going to assume there will be no time extension on donations even though the constant downtime has taken away a lot of time I've personally had to donate, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, on either team. And I'm not just saying this because I'm on team Steele and it looks like we'll lose this donation, I try not to let those kinds of things get to me. You win some you lose some.

But I really am frustrated with this, because 90% of the times I've tried to access this site since the donations started, last night particularly, I've just gotten a 502 error. Heck, I got one trying to get to this thread. Just constant refreshing, 502 error on top of 502 error. I'm amazed anyone could donate anything with that going on. An unresponsive site, followed by mostly unresponsive staff. It's great that the status site is being used again, but in the few times I've been able to actually get to this site, I couldn't see any kind of announcement acknowledging the problem, not even in staff posts before this thread was created. Things on the site didn't even get reset last night until hours later.

I'm kind of baffled by

Why is it not appropriate to make a news post saying that you acknowledge the errors and link to the status site saying "keep checking the status site for more info. the status site is now linked in the footer." Every time the site has serious stability problems I think you'll find people are begging for communication rather than a quick fix.

Sorta useless if you have CSS that removes the footer (I have it because it causes some problems for me)....maybe it could be added to the news page at the right sidebar too?
