I've been driving around a lot lately, and the area I live in has a lot of rivers, forests, and fields. The past few days I've seen some: -Turkey vultures -Red-tailed hawks -Mallard ducks and Canadian geese -Swans - they're starting to build nests! -Herons flying over the road -Chipmunks -Also a male pheasant near the road the other day. They're so beautiful it's crazy.

I love learning about the local wildlife of peoples' different living environments so please share! 🦋

Don't worry. The Canadian Geese are coming back home to Canada. I know some stay in the US and that you guys hate them lol.

I haven't seen any wildlife lately. That's because I live on the highway and I never see anything, unless I'm at my parents house. They feed raccoons <3

I used to live in a rural area but have since moved to the suburbs, so I don't see nearly as much wildlife as I used to :'( But I've set up bird feeders so recently I have seen: a cardinal pair (so cute), chickadees, titmice, bluejays, wrens, robins, red tail hawks, an owl, bluebirds (eeeee!), and sparrows.

I live in Southwest Florida.

I see wildlife on a daily basis. They include:

Sandhill Cranes Osprey Bald Eagles White Ibis Vultures Hawks Woodpeckers Cardinals Scrub Jays Otters Wild Boars Armadillos Gopher Tortoises

And my husband has seen an alligator, though I have yet to see one.

I've seen lots of cardinals, sandhill cranes, woodpeckers, bluejays, hawks and owls, a herd of deer (and later a doe and her fawn), and a flock of wild turkey. A month or so ago there were hundreds of seagulls hanging out in a parking lot. I live in Eastern Tennessee, so it's kind of a strange sight, except not really because they show up every year and hang out for days in the same parking lot.

Last year I saw a teeeeny little baby black bear standing about three feet off the ground on a tree branch. I wanted to get a picture, but I was driving and couldn't find a safe place to pull over. His momma must have been somewhere near, but I didn't see her.

I live where the geese stay all year, haha. I like to think they're intelligent creatures who noticed how much we changed their native environment, so they rebel by pooping everywhere. It's all fair. How do you guys feel about them?

Sounds like you have a popular birdfeeder! I love seeing cardinal couples too, and how they go everywhere together. I'm in Michigan and have never seen an owl or a bluebird in the wild before. Do you get goldfinch where you live?

That's amazing - I'm totally jealous of the range of tropical wildlife where you live! Didn't even know armadillos lived in Florida. Are they common where you live? They seems so bizarre to me, like possums wearing turtleshells.

I see the armadillos mainly at night as they are nocturnal, but yep, they are fairly common. The one animal that I would really like to see one of these days are baby sea turtles. The turtles lay eggs up and down the coast here and the nests are marked and people go out to the beach in the middle of the night a wait for them to hatch and watch them get to the gulf. I've also seen dolphins & sting-rays in the water. And one of these days I'm gonna go kayaking to watch the manatees. Yep Florida is pretty amazing when it comes to critters.

I recently saw a short-eared owl. It's the rarest breeding bird in my country with only about 100 pairs so this was a sweet surprise. :'3

My cat loves watching them come to the window, so it's entertainment for the both of us, lmao. Yes we have goldfinches (Virginia), but I haven't seen any recently. I think they should be migrating back up north by now, but they seem to be on their own schedule this year.

I got home very late one night and saw a HUGE bird fly over the parking lot and into the woods nearby, so even though I didn't get a good look at it, I can safely assume it was an owl (it was completely silent flying, too). I've only ever seen two bluebirds in the wild, both here in Virginia. I was SUPER excited. They're REALLY blue! You don't really realize how vibrant they are until you see one in person. They're gorgeous and have the cutest little song.

I honestly have no idea how we feel about them. I personally like them, even though they shit everywhere.

The last time my dad and I went to the States we saw some Canadian geese. I made a joke saying "Well, they're American geese now" xD

Do feral cats count? Plus I hear racoons talking to each other at night sometimes.

Lots of feral cats where I am, too many squirrels, bluebirds, and so many ducks. Got to watch them go from little fluffy yellow things to adults. Such a wonderful experience. Every now and then there are also hawks that will land in bushes and stares at people walking by.

Yesterday I saw a cardinal while on a walk. I was able to get a fairly close look before it flew away. It was very beautiful :) I haven't seen anything other than birds lately.

I live in the desert and so far this year I have seen:

cottontails Cooper and red tail hawks verdin ravens (they are all over the place) hummingbirds mocking birds cactus wrens (my favorite) woodpeckers jackrabbits lizards house finches coyotes

I hear the barn owls at night. Their screech can be surprising to you if it's unexpected!

I saw a white egret in a pond the other day. Just before the big snow. D:

The goldfinches must have a nutty schedule this year. With the sudden snow lately. Just last year I learned that the males look like females all winter and don't turn bright yellow with the black cap until spring??

Yes! Do people feed them? I used to walk past feral cats on my way to work all the time. They're so mysterious, like how did they get there, and what do they think of humans by now?

That environment sounds so beautiful and interesting. Especially in blooming season. That's so cool there's a type of bird that can stand on cacti without getting hurt. :D

a roommate has been taking some of my cats' food to try to feed a couple of them, turns out the stubby one belongs to the people behind us. we call him one of my cat's "boyfriend" cos he's always trying to get at her (both him and are her are fixed).

LOL I just learned that too! I thought I saw some over the winter but they were so dreary looking that I couldn't tell if they were goldfinches or not. That sudden snowfall last week must have all the animals so confused. It's been a nutty winter this year. x_x

I sadly don't see very much wildlife because whenever I'm outside and in nature, I usually have a rowdy pack of dogs with me.

However, our front 'lawn' is basically a huge garden, and we have rabbits that like to hang out in certain areas when the weather gets nice.

I do live close to a provincial park, and we get tons of animals out there -- owls, deer, eagles, pheasants, coyotes all sorts of critters, which is always neat to see.

I go hiking with my dogs almost daily and we usually encounter lots of deer, squirrels, rabbits, various birds (soo many woodpeckers and occasionally flocks of wild turkey); once in a while a raccoon if we're out at the right time. But a few months ago we saw a red fox which was really cool (and pretty rare)!

There are feral cats in my community too. I had them all vaccinated and TNR'ed (trap-neuter-returned) a few years ago, found homes for the tame strays and even adopted a couple myself lol. I feed the feral ones when they come around, as do some of the neighbors.

I love looking out for wildlife here in Alabama and it's cool to read about the varieties you all encounter!

• Armadillos and opossums are absolutely everywhere. Quite a few raccoons. Chipmunks. Occasional rabbits.

• Squirrels, both common gray squirrels and beautiful fox squirrels.

• Groundhogs! I've started seeing them quite frequently near my barn. They're cuties.

• LOTS of deer near my barn. During fall/winter I might see ten-twenty in the neighboring field in the evenings.

• Cute little snake and skink at the botanical gardens in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago.

• Unidentified snake crossing the road today.

• I saw a live coyote for the first time back in February. Also about four dead coyotes on the interstate during that same trip.

• Going back a little bit, I saw my second ever bobcat near my barn back in the fall.

• A few foxes last winter/fall. I don't see them often so it's exciting when I do.

• SO MANY BIRDS.

• I get excited about hawks and crows even though I see them everyday.

• Have seen and heard some owls recently at my barn.

• Bluebirds built a nest in the corner of my barn, and they have chicks now so the parents bring in food when they think we aren't watching.

• Over 20 cardinals gathered at my barn a few weeks ago, it was a neat sight.

• Tree swallows are cute and fun to watch.

• Starlings!

• Herons

• Ducks and geese downtown. (Though the Canadian geese are everywhere.)

• Have not seen any wild turkeys yet this year but I expect to see them soon.
