The site has been having MAJOR issues since we switched to servers that were meant to be better. We haven't been told much of anything by staff. Players are losing confidence and are admitting they've stopped spending real money on the site due to the instability and lack of communication. It is a common issue with this site for users to beg for information and nothing to come from it. Or, a board explodes and we're fed tidbits of what's going on.

Basically, we need more from the staff. More interaction, more ACTION, more communication, and some sort of explanation.

I realize that a lot of bigger sites don't give their customers extensive amounts of information, but this is a small site that needs to be depending on their core user base. This is a small enough site that there does need to be more accountability, especially when it's been weeks of the site being down for long periods of time off and on. And even the big sites would tell their users more information than we've been given.

I couldn't agree with you more. The site overall needs more transparency about site performance issues. It is so confusing to get information from twitter- not from subeta's official one but from Keith's. He turned off the ddos attack mode according to his tweet yet I still get that message. Yesterday the site was loading just blank pages in the morning. No error message, no site down, nada. I turn to the facebook Shoutbox group to find out the status of the site because facebook's subeta page hardly ever addresses the issue that users are finding the site is down. What ever happened to that site status page? It worked for a little while and then it wasn't updated and eventually disappeared.

Exactly. And it comes across as staff straight up not caring like they should. The users should not love and care about the site more than the people running it. I would love to be proven wrong on this.

I've lost days of play time. Quests, Free Shop, treasure gathering, and general wasting-time-online just gone because the site has been completely unusable. That's a pretty big deal. Its extremely frustrating to be dealing with these issues and looking around everywhere I can think of for updates but there's just nothing.

I get that the site goes down at weird hours sometimes but is it really that hard to post on one of the way-too-many social media pages when someone wakes up? You can still address things after the problem has sorted itself out or has been fixed. Having it look like Subeta is doing nothing but ignoring them leaves a bad taste in players' mouths.

There's countless complaints by members on the Subeta Facebook but there's not a single post from staff addressing it. The last post is about the Manchu revamp from the 18th like everything is completely fine. Ignoring the issues in the public eye is going to do nothing but make it worse.

There are way too many social media pages for subeta run by staff that aren't updated. It should be narrowed down to one with the ability for use to comment directly. You get bits and pieces across them.

For Example: Keith Kurson ? Jan 16 Upper Market, San Francisco Was finally able to turn off the "under attack" mode, omg.

That was 5 days ago yet I still get that checking your connection page which then leads me more often than not a 502 error page. There was no mention of this on the Facebook Subeta Page or Subeta or Subeta's tumblr. To be honest I don't know where to look anymore. Nor is twitter the best way to have back and forth communication about the site's status

Its just excessive at this point. If staff kept them all updated it would be one thing but they don't. Its important to have a social media presence as a company these days but its detrimental to have a bunch of neglected ones. Having potential new users find Subeta's FB full of nothing but complaints about the site being down/error-filled/unusable with no staff activity is not going to make people want to join. Pet sites are a dime a dozen now so the first impression is vital.

I think Subeta's tumblr is just for fluff? Reblogging art and stuff like that? I'm not 100% sure since I don't check it often. I've never really been a fan of that.

My guess is a large part of the current issue with communication is that works for Code for America now, which surely means he has less time to deal with Subeta. (In fact, the Code for America site says:

Quote
"This year&;s fellows are taking leave from tech companies, start-ups, and their own businesses to help make government work for the people, by the people, in the 21st century."
Kind of concerning, or is it just me?

Ditto. It seems like an easy 'go to' excuse to explain downtime without anyone on Subeta actually having to take any sort of responsibility for the issues.

It's not a social media presence if there's next to no social media presence.

The first place I tend to look when the site starts spitting out 502 errors is Twitter. I don't use Facebook, the fact that the "default" seems to be "CHECK FACEBOOK OMG" is not the best state of mind for anything. I don't want to have to have a Facebook just for the sake of a tiny post about server status.

In my opinion, a site as large as Subeta would be wise to elect trustworthy people to a position of maintaining the social media presence. Lord knows smaller sites have.

Not just for updating solely Facebook either.

(Is there even a point to the Subeta Tumblr anymore?)

We're getting less and less content, the servers are still very shoddy, and yet, CSC costs more and more.

It's like Neopets all over again, I feel like I'm playing just out of habit, not because I enjoy the site itself.

Yesterday's white pages and 502 errors really messed up going to the Free Shop. This is particularly frustrating when it's a once a year event. I hope the staff will think of extending the giveaway so we can make up for lost time.

I am sorry but that is huge news and should have been announced. I had no idea and that would help explain why things have continued to run pretty shitty.

I haven't been on much since New Years. I didn't realize this was still going on. (What am I saying? This is Subeta. This happens once a month.)

It's not really a shock, though, is it? I've played a lot of pet sites through the years (Wajas, Neo, FR, UniC, DragCave, Magistream, a Digimon thing, a Pokemon thing, probably more that I'm forgetting) and none have ever had the sort of stability or communication issues that Subeta has on a regular basis. Likewise I've played plenty of smaller indie games, especially pre-release ones where everything is broken all the time, and while many of those projects ultimately failed none suffered from this same sort of lack of communication and progress. Mainly because they were smart enough to hire fucking programmers for their video game, I think.

Ultimately the staff response always seems to boil down to "it wasn't us" and "we don't have programmers for that". Neither of which are actually useful and neither of which tell the userbase that these issues are going to be resolved. Assuming there's a response from staff at all, of course.

Site got worse when Keith took away the DDoS protection and now the DDoS protection is back? Sounds like an ongoing attack.

If you don't believe their reasons, you're saying they're lying to you. Why would staff intentionally mislead us?

as far as I know about the status site, the tool they used for it stopped being supported or something, so they had to drop it. it doesn't take a different site to know when this site is having issues though. I don't know exactly what the status site accomplished, I can tell when subeta is being wonky.

No need to be sorry! While I am sure there are plenty of people that will point out that he is allowed to do what he wants in his spare time, I don't see how someone can work 2 jobs fulltime AND have any kind of social life... one of those will be neglected.

And if people think Subeta isn't being neglected right now... just lol.

Now there's talk about Keith getting a new job and it's apparently full time. Unless sleep doesn't happen, it's impossible to run two full-time jobs effectively. Something has to be done about all this because it's super frustrating :/ I'd hate to see Subeta shut down :/ It's the only good pet site on the web today.

Subeta has had a long life, 11 years was a very good run, but the site is going downhill. Keith is moving onto bigger projects, I don't think we had new artists hire in years so...maybe the curtain is going to fall down soon. I'm hoping not, but I'm starting to prepare myself to see the site go.

Daily Goal is higher than yesterday at the same time, it's at 26% right now. I think it was at 9% around the same time yesterday, from what Jessyta said.

I really had fun when the site was in its prime, and I really hoped that we could benefit from Neopets' issues, but fact is, we seem to have the same issues too, with lack of content and server issues. So, more stable, younger websites are the winners there.

Flight Rising is not 2 years old yet, and they're already working on a site recode to adapt themselves to today's internet standards. It seems like Subeta is just...very, very passive, now.

And this is just sad. I can't even have the energy to be angry anymore, it's not worth investing. I'm just sad.

At this point, I've been here too long, seen and participated in too many of these boards, to bother anymore. Tbh I don't spend enough money on the site to have much of a horse in this race.
