I would like to see more communication on the suggestions forum, maybe once a week you or another admin can check the board and give some feedback, bad or good on the suggestions, if bad - not gonna happen, lock the topic. if it's good and will happen/maybe/need some changes, it would be nice to know it too and to see your or other admins point of view on the suggestion.
Because so far the majority of the topics are just some kind of debate/drama topics without any word from the admins..
This solution will likely be helpful in posting the types of things that are already posted to social media (new pets, events coming up and so on) but when it comes to staff-to-player communication about issues... frankly I don't see how an unpaid volunteer would be any more reliable when it comes to posting about downtime or problems than the staff you currently pay. :/
while more staff interaction and communication is always a good thing imo, I'd like to state that there are plenty of us users who understand that this was more of the DDoS problem and that DDoS's aren't caused by staff being on vacations and crap like that.
Yeah I am kind of sad we got so few new/revamped pet(s) (colors) last year. The pets on here are the only reason I play this site at all. I mean for example we only got ONE Reborn pet last Fireside... :c
All of the following things would have to happen to convince me that Subeta isn't circling the toilet:
Have Subeta up, consistently and with no 504s, lag, broken images, or blank pages, for a month. If the proper programmer/person with the Big Red Button isn't there to reboot the servers or whatever, ensure that whoever is there has the tools to fix things on their own.
Clear out the Problems and Bugs forum - do you know that js.pusher has been screwing up people's computers since at least 05/30/15?
V3 Wardrobe out of alpha and fixed, totally.
I am also laughing at the suggestion that users do a Staff member's job for no pay. It doesn't strike me as particularly difficult to narrow the social media announcements down to one or two platforms (Facebook and Twitter?) and keep them updated.
Edit: Consistency and follow through! I agree that the staff needs a change-up/addition. The site has been very stale, and only a handful of staff have been present - two of those people volunteers(shout out to )
If you get a text that the servers are being wonky how hard is it to tweet something is up? Giving someone access to your social media platforms on a volunteer basis isn't gonna help unless you make them entitled to the inner staff circle and they are like a part-time worker in the real world.
Yeah, I don't see how a volunteer social media person would help at all when we're asking for updates only programmers can provide? They'd just be acting as a middleman, and we've seen how long it takes to get essential staff online to fix problems in the first place.
And on the topic of communication and bug reports, this is on the front page of SS right now:
I've seen this sentiment from others before, and it's really unfortunate. I've even been in that position myself, where I have to seriously debate reporting a bug because there's a good chance the report will never be acknowledged, making it a huge waste of my time.
Now just imagine if the exploit this anon found is actually the "attack vector" you're still trying to track down. That's information you don't have, and it's all because of your poor track record for handling bug reports. This is a problem.

We actually have all of the bugs from the bug forum inserted into our project management system and organized by level of importance to be fixed. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bugs that just aren't that important and aren't labeled as critical. If something comes in that is critical, or we have other features that have priority, then those things get done first. It's not a case of not remembering that it's there, or ignoring, it's that and us work really hard to set priorities and sometimes things fall to the bottom and stay there. There isn't really much else to say there. If you find a bug, report it, and it'll get categorized in our back end system (where usernames aren't even listed) and sorted into importance.
Perhaps we need to remove the bug forum altogether and move to an "issues" based system that most other sites use, where there isn't any communication past "this has been received" and entered into our bug tracker, I don't know.
Social volunteers who are on in hours that I and Grace aren't can easily update twitter saying "Hey, we know that the site is down and something is being done" while pinging us in whatever channel is easiest to see what the status is. They obviously aren't being tasked with resolving the situation, just keeping more information available.
[edit]
And another note (kind of) on social, right now we are working on migrating to a new support (ticket) system that will make the UAs job much easier, as well as make ticket filing a lot easier for users. Part of this new system includes facebook/twitter support, which means that UAs in particular will have access to and much easier ability to send out a tweet if something is up.

If it was just content I liked that had been lacking.
Sadly, it wasn't just the case. I mean, I don't really have a strong opinion on Shengui Guo, aside from "Man, I think staff forgot it existed". Having it release with no content was not great. Having it having one shop with 3 random items for two months also wasn't great. Adding two shops at the end of a themed month, and yet, never adding new stock to it since then. Merana could sink Shengui Guo now and I don't think I have the energy to really care.
I didn't have an opportunity to really care about the brand new land you guys have been working so hard on. I'm just "Eh, it exists, I guess". You told me the plot would be worth it, and well...I....I haven't clicked that little link labelled Shengui Guo since early November. Because there are three shops there and that's it. Even Port Plunder, an area you gotta pay for, has a reason to go back daily : Carl. Shengui Guo doesn't have that.
I also...am not impressed with the way to get the Harvest Potion. Or, the fact that we don't have an alternative to get an Harvest pet aside from "Wait in November for Fireside". The potion is something that was widely wanted, but the way to get it is very "eh" to me.
You're right, we got a lot of wearables, and I don't mind getting lots of wearables, if they're things we're actually lacking!
I think at least 80% of what we got in the last six months was things we def. needed, and weren't like a 20th version of shorts and skirts and things we had like a million of. I had issues with a lot of things, but wearables were actually fairly diverse and didn't pander to one slice of the community. If anything, I'm more annoyed by the wardrobe 3.0 still being wonky.
So, I'm going to give this to you : I'm fully satisfied with the wearable situation right now. I can count on my hands the number of releases I just went "Eh, why is that there? Didn't we already have that?" And, that's a great thing. I might not be buying them, but I'm okay with most of the items released existing.
I'd love to know what you're thinking was a popular content update, because I feel like 2015 was many small waves of content. It was not a bang, but a whisper
I think this has been addressed previously, but will there be an opportunity for users to apply for forum moderators? Or any potential new volunteer positions here directly on-site? I'll admit, I'm not much of a social media person. xD
But if people are needed for various tasks, such as being a volunteer to help with the pet spotlight queue or writing/updating guides/tutorials--I would be quick on the draw to apply to help out. ^^

New minimods would be great.. not that I'm saying the existing minimods suck, but having more couldn't hurt right? Maybe 2 for the major/busy boards. They could be tasked with making more threads which compile information from their respective boards.
so unless things have changed, don't count on it. I feel like Suggestions needs a second one, the current one hasn't been very active lately. Last Seen: 3 weeks, 4 days, 6 hours, 7 minutes ago
I'd love to be a moderator or some kind of intern. Paid or unpaid. I would love to help out in whatever way they need it.
Yeah I feel like the Suggestions board definitely needs another MM, especially since it seems more active lately.
Also re:Keith's post, I don't think the sole role of MMs should be modding, maybe they can act as.. I don't know how to phrase this, but they would set an example of what that board should be. I love what does on the Welcome's board. She doesn't only mod the board, she also welcomes the new members and gives them advice.
However we're getting a little off topic here, haha.
As a pet person, I have concerns with taking on more duties when she can't seem to keep up on the others she has. The Spotlight is a disaster and she is still the Creative Director. We can all relate to having too much on our plate because eventually something falls to the way side.
Why hasn't been asked to help out in any way he's willing? He's been more active than any staff for months now, and way more helpful.
I agree with you on that. I think I have voiced that in the community guidelines feedback thread awhile ago on the GA forums I think when that was being worked on. I don't know what the topic of this thread is any more, it looked to me like the standard complain about what you want to complain about thread. Suggestions hasn't been a slow forum in awhile, and it's definitely one that people cross the line for community guidelines occasionally. There are many times I would ping the MM to lock a thread or get it moved that I don't bother because they haven't been on in 3 weeks. Threads go unlocked there about suggestions that now exist, many duplicate threads get made about ideas a page back... small unimportant stuff, but it is stuff that I wouldn't want to file a ticket for so a UA would have to do it.
Staff should see that there are many users who are more than willing to help out in any way they can to improve the site. :x
I think users are kind of an under utelised part of the site. Some of the best things I remember from Neopets were user created, but staff facilitated. Getting more MMs would be a great start. The whole volunteer social media person thing is fine too, even if it's just to keep the FB/Twitter/Tumblr updated with mindless Subeta related stuff (retweets of user stuff etc). Having an active social media presence is key to getting new members. :)
