Seriously? Does anyone else think this is sketchy as hell? And kind of tasteless? Jesus.

You know what, I give up. Forgive me for thinking an item poking at an old, cliche troupe of spousal abuse is foul. I've been here over 6 years. I know that subeta has more adult and dark humor but it's not humor when it's a huge, actual problem, widespread. I'm not oversensitive, I just know when something is in bad taste. If this keeps getting brought up, then it's for a reason. I appreciate Ariel changing it, although I didn't know the owners weren't consulted and I'm sorry about that.

Yes, subeta has some items in poor taste. And yes, I have a problem with them.

I don't see the problem with political correctness anyway. It must be so horrible that people try to make the world less awful in smaller ways.

Don't ping me anymore, I'm tired of seeing people defend this item. Thank you

Aw c'mon, it's funny as I'll get out. My honey always jokes about my marble rolling pin and my cast iron pans and how fearsome they are. (Happily married for 23 years now) [EDIT] I do have to admit the art is a bit sketchy and could seriously use an update though.

I'm sorry but how is it funny? It's literally a joke about spousal abuse? I mean I'm always teasing my friend about violent jokes but it's really something that only works between one person and their partner/friend/SO/whatever? To a wider audience it's not funny. It's gross.

"You did NOT just stick your finger in my freshly baked apple pie! Get the 'ell out of this kitchen!" shakes rolling pin menacingly

True story, I've seen that happen. And it's hilarious. One of my favorite items on site.

Look, I get it, between one person and another who both get that it's a joke it's fine, yeah it can be funny. (I'm always kidding with my friend that i'll break his nose cus he keeps rasberry-ing my stomach) But when it's a wider audience, of people who have not agreed to be exposed to that When domestic abuse is a serious and widespread problem it's no longer funny. I'm sorry if it ruins your favorite item it's messed up.

This gets brought up at least once a year. I'm pretty sure as said it's a custom item from years ago and as far as I know it's not going anywhere.

I've seen abuse first-hand. I don't condone it in the slightest. A man should never hit a woman. End of story. And yes it's clearly a problem in this society.

Do I still think this item is funny? Absolutely. That's how comedians make a living. They make light of a serious subject, but at the same time are bringing awareness to it. I fail to see how that's any different from this item.

Abuse of any kind should never be made light of. It's odd how Subeta has let this slide! Only people who have not experienced abuse would find this funny and not at all tasteless.

Also, NO-ONE should be subjected to abuse.

It's also a clear reference. End of that story.

I'm ashamed of the attitude here. THAT if anything should be adjusted.

It's not about domestic abuse, it's just a rolling pin, and a common joke. Yes, we could get into a huge debate over fear-aggression-threat-jokes. But it's not in bad taste in itself in my opinion.

Kind of. This is from a time when users could purchase custom items. purchased this for me as a wedding gift in 2004. I didn't design it or request it, but neither do I have a problem with it.

Honestly, I'm so freaking tired of this being brought up constantly when it is as much of a classic comedy staple as a rubber chicken. Is it tasteless? Perhaps. But like has said, that's half of what makes it funny. That's how most comedians make their living is by making light of dark things.

Other than that, I'll just link to/quote myself from last time this was brought up.

Quote

I don&;t understand all this outcry over a rolling pin trope item gifted to me on my wedding day. Do you know how old of a symbol rolling pins are of marriage? (It&;s like a ball and chain! Do I literally beat my husband? No more than he is literally chained to me.) And do you know what that "slapstick" reference/use was? For smacking the spouse upside the head. Does anyone remember Muriel from Courage The Cowardly Dog whacking Eustace every time he did something awful to Courage?

Here is a video clip!

But because this is clearly labeled rather than implied, everyone is getting their panties twisted? I bet if it was a Tangled fan item and it was a cast iron frying pan instead, no one would be offended. Oh, wait. We have that already.

[item2=Large Iron Pan]

All snark aside, I never said I wasn&;t open to changing it, but I do expect either (since she paid for it) or myself to be consulted on it. While this isn&;t one of the new style custom items, it is still a custom item.

I hope your post here was meant to be ironic/satirical dressed as a jock with a signature mentioning bullying nerds.

The rolling pin is pretty obviously a joke, it&;s one of &;s old items. If there was a fist item called, "Didn&;t Listen the First Time" and it put a black eye on your HA, I might be more inclined to agree with you. But this is all in jest and entirely harmless.

http://subeta.net/forums.php/read/102248/Domestic-Abuse-Items-Do-Not-Belong-Here/1

There are literally hundreds of items on Subeta that could be offensive to certain people depending on their upbringing. There are pet colors that could be viewed as offensive. The entire Battle system could be looked at as promoting the abuse of animals which could and should offend people.

Subeta items are only as serious as you take them. Maybe instead of worrying about pixelated items on a virtual pet site, if these are issues that truly bother you, you should go out in the real world and do something that would actually be significant with regard to these causes?[/quote]

Well, if it keeps getting brought up every single year, maybe there's a reason. Hmmm. I wonder what it could be.

I find it to be very non-funny, myself. The wifebeater too. And no, the "it's a joke" defense doesn't erase the fact that it's problematic. Comedians often make jokes that aren't framed well or come off particularly callously, or that fall very flat when presented to a wider audience. This seems much the same.

Where's the sense of humour now?

Also, isn't it kinda stereotypical to assume it means bullying?

No further pings please. I'm out of this before I get banned or something.

Removing or changing this item will have -ZERO- effect on domestic abuse. However, I do think that this item is taken more lightly since it is suggesting a woman hitting a man. My mom jokes like that all the time when we're crowding the kitchen while she bakes. Would she actually hurt us? Absolutely not. MOST people wouldn't. They might pat you on the butt with a hand full of flour, but savagely beat you with a rolling pin? No..

And hey, for all you know they could mean it's an attitude adjuster because they're rolling out dough to make cookies. And cookies make a lot of people happier c: (yes I know what the description implies. just poking fun)

Stella Artois used to market itself under the slogan "reassuringly expensive" but became popularly known in Britain as the "wife beater" beer because of its high alcohol content and perceived connection with aggression and binge drinking. So i guess any mention of the word Stella is off limits. People who are named Stella need their names changed as well please.

The rolling pin as a weapon, often aimed at someone&;s head. Most often wielded by a cook, or else a woman (especially of the Apron Matron persuasion).

An Improbable Weapon, though one that does have reasonable efficacy. Closely related to the Frying Pan of Doom and often used in conjunction with it. Note that most of these rolling pins are made of wood, as plastic is usually too light to do any damage.

I don't see it as any more offensive than any of the other novelty themed items.

Like pointed out she doesn't mind it being changed.

It's an item and a description that is in no way, shape, or form actually physically hurting anyone though.

Just seems like these days everyone is about covering up anything they don't like/offends them. I could be offending someone right now. Sorry if I am, but that doesn't mean I should be deleted from the site... Right?
