Comedy without being offensive severly limits comedy and makes it bland. There are some lines we should not cross, but we also shouldn't make sure no item is offensive to anyone in existence. Not saying that this applies to this item, but in general. I think the subeta community is way too worried about offending someone, and we should leave it up to the people these issues are actually offending.

Sorry this isn't stated better, posts on my phone make less sense than if I posted them from my laptop. Hopefully the general meaning gets through.

Because literally everything can be offensive, in the eyes of people who have been affected.

I personally find a certain line of shirts EXTREMELY offensive and yet, nothing is getting done about them because well, it's me. That's my personal experience.

If we start to change things for everyone who had a bad experience with something, it will never end

I really disagree. If you're relying on jokes in poor taste then you aren't very funny, you just rely on crappy shock factor. Sorry.

I really hate this absurd snowball argument. No one is asking to change all of the items ever. And what on earth is wrong with changing something as simple as a name if it means it makes a bunch of users more comfortable? Cus clearly this has been a problem for quite some time, if the other comments about it coming up all the time are anything to go by it.

"we should leave it up to the people these issues are actually offending." Like?? Me??? And the other users who have said this is awful?

Oh my god. Please get over your whole "it'll never end" spheel. No one is asking for everything to be changed but if you think a shirt is messed up, I really think you might want to say something about it! (what are they, if I may ask?) I'm so, so tired of "if it doesn't offend me, it's not offensive, if we cater to your silly request EVERYONE EVER WILL TRY TO CHANGE SOMETHING"

I'm really tired of it.

A re-write of the description is all that should be in order. Which has happened now. =)

There was an item awhile back, that two-headed grapesaur minion that made an insensitive reference to schizophrenia. A suggestion was made to change the description, and all went well. ^^

I think, unfortunately, the history behind this item's creation is why it's generated some equal grumpiness on both sides. It's because the item was something a bit more personal, kinda between two friends, and that got changed.

[edit]Users will come out of the woodwork when they see something get addressed. They otherwise maintain status quo and avoid starting anything. Common human behavior. ^^

idk, learning to laugh at your own situation is a very valuable lesson to learn. Again, I'm not saying this about this item, but just in general. the snowball argument does hold some weight though, people see a precedent for items being changed and suddenly they want to make their least favorite item better for them. that part I was more referring to in the past with the ebola items. I am sure a few people may have been affected by that, but it seemed like most people wanting the change didn't really belong in the argument.

agreeing with Sopheroo though, everything can be offensive to someone. people tend to take things wayyyyy too personally.

Everybody is offended by something. No one is really unique in that sense. o.o

I don't think it's so much personally, rather trying to protect those who have suffered from seeing these items. Which is good, thinking of others and what they may be going through or have gone through.

That said, Subeta has always been the pet site on the fringe. I think that's what users are afraid of losing more than anything. The bad experiences from Neo and their censorship is its own brand of trauma.

The Fif shirts released for Subeta's firth anniversary. As you can see, they've been released for six years, I've been complaining about it for six years and they're not getting changed.

For the recore, fif is a slur akin to "fag" in Quebec.

when someone start making something an issue because they think it could possibly being an issue for someone else, I think it's just better off not bringing it up at all. that's all I'm really saying. people don't need other people to have their issues sorted through for them. we all can be offended, but some people choose to deal with it than to try to change it. again I think changing this item is probably better off because it's been brought up in the past many times. I would hate to see subeta lose its edginess though, especially because this is a pg13 site and people should be able to deal with things they don't necessarily agree with. If something really crosses a line though, I am not against changing it one bit, but things do need to be in a balance.

Slaglord got picked on recently too, since 'slag' means something offensive in another country. I suppose everything can be deemed controversial if one seeks it out.

My only request is that better not get changed, or I WILL BEAT SOMEONE UP WITH A ROLLING PIN. :P

Oh I didn't know that :o It's kind of surprising that they're still there. Have you made a thread?

I get that haha. I was on Neo too. I just have trouble thinking that people actually believe changing a few items spells the end of subeta haha. I have a feeling they're just kinda making the argument to devalue mine but idk.

Oh nooo believe me I agree. I was completely covered in a gallon mix of chiplote mayo and water today and after a while you just kind of have to laugh. Laughing at a bad scenario is sometimes what you gotta do, but it really depends on what's happened. And looking back, I have to agree that most people didn't belong there.

there's nothing offensive about that though, out of context it has a name that isn't the best, but tardy does mean late. schools everywhere would need to stop calling you tardy if you were late to class if this became a real issue.

glad we could agree! a lot of the issues from items I believe come from out of context things (read above) or people just wanting to take issue with something. I don't think joking about abuse is funny if you put it in those terms, and I am sure people on this site have dealt with it unlike the whole ebola thing. But I also see how people can defend the item, because it reminds me of something you'd see a housewife use is a joking matter on an old tv show. I think at this point it's probably just better to have the item changed (which it was and still is right?)

Yeah I understand that. I think they had good intentions though ^^; And yes, it's still changed! Though I fear it'll keep getting changed..we'll see what happens

Yeah I think most of it is good intentioned, but I think there should be a better way to report items than to make a thread about it. I wish they would do it through tickets and if they need userbase input, make a survey or something. these threads just bring conflicting opinions.

if it still gets changed around, I don't think it'll get worse than what it was before :)

I could easily make a thread about getting that Ultimate Miracle Meal item removed cause I've been through an eating disorder. Granted, Ive been in recovery for years now, but the description could be very triggering to someone who isn't in as confident of place as I am.

However, I think the description does accurately represent the reality of the disorder. An irrational description equally matching an irrational disorder. xD

Regarding the 'changing a few items spells the end of Subeta': humans are a bit flawed in logical reasoning and risk perception. When we see patterns, especially reoccurring ones, we tend to assume that it will continue on until a new pattern is introduced. So if one or more things start changing, we fear everything else of similar nature will be changed too.

The problem I see is that as long as the item remains on site, even if the name and description is changed, the allusion to the old trope will always be there. So I don't think the changes actually accomplish much.

Kind of like putting a band-aid over a gunshot wound. Might make the onlookers feel better, but the one who got shot ain't doing so good. Probably a bad analogy, but I went with what came to mind first.

changing the item doesn't actually make the issue go away in real life either. but if changing the name and description make a lot of people happier, then why not. I still don't think we need 6 pages of thread debating something that's really just a decision between two people.

That would be a great idea. (I also think that idea would be great for reporting wardrobe items in the wrong layer! Cus where else do we put that :/ )

Congrats on the recovery! I can definitely see why that item could be upsetting :/ I guess so. We people sure do love dem patterns haha

I disagree! I think now it's akin to the other weapons. It's a weapon, so the name suits, it's a cooking tool, so the description fits, and nowhere in it does it say anything about partners. The problem with the original was that it directly joked about threatening your spouse, whereas now it's just like many other weapons, which I think are fine imo

I use the item typo report thing and those things get fixed rather quickly. though I don't know where this actual report form is on the site, someone linked it to me once. why isn't there something like this for other things? it's just a ticket but less formal.

I don't think I can deal with the excessive sarcasm of that forum right now. If someone were to make that thread though, I'd support it.
