Yes, one or two major critiques is fair enough, but people are over doing it. They're failing to see what beautiful art we have here and how fortunate we are on Subeta to have such talented artists, and just critiquing left right and center. You know - tiny nit-picky things like "that paw should be a few millimetres smaller".

I had to vote for the old one. This one seems like a rush job to me.

Revamps aren't usually rush jobs, and to say so simply because YOU dislike it is rude. :/

I'd have to agree, it scares me too.
No offense to the artist. I just think it could use some serious touching up, along the ears, and paws/legs/feet/face.

One of the worse revamps...
What's with its left ear? (it seems totally misplaced).

I had to vote for the old one. This one seems like a rush job to me.

I mostly like it. The tan is too dark IMO and maybe even the blue is a bit too dark. The line for the stomach that goes up beside the back leg gives it an odd look, but I can't think of how to explain why. Overall I do like it though, good job Rah. This is the first revamp that I've liked more than the old version from the second I saw it. Big step in the right direction.

omg much more better then the old one o.o i may look into getting one now if its revamped

Beautiful.

People are nit-picking revamps far too much at the moment. Some constructive critiscism where due is fair enough - it helps the artists after all, but to analyise every.tiny.little.detail. is a bit too much? Subeta artists are asking which revamp you prefer, not "critique my art please".

As I said, beautiful. It's better than the old one - so I voted new. =)

The colours don't mix well.
I like the old colours, but the art work of the new one is better.
Maybe have one colour, with the exception of whites.
The blue is too dark as well. The front paw looks like it's broken, all twisted around and stuff.

Mmm...I voted the new one, however I hope another revamp poll will come up with the first one's color scheme. I don't really like the new one's. Other then that, the eyebrows bug me for some odd reason. xD Otherwise, very nicely done. :3

Love:
Eyebrows
Spots
white socks
The features (everything well-proportioned, pretty shading and coloring)/expression on the face
Floppy ears!

Dislike
colors
angle of the right paw
where the tail is connected tot he body. The angle, somehow doesn't seem right

It's not set in stone that a chibi pet has to be the same colour as the common version of the pet, so I'd say no, chibi wouldn't turn tan

I think it'd look batter if the brown parts were the same blue as the old version. And the right paw(our left) is bent too far.

Other than that, perfect.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Nice Drawing, but I don't like it as a Ruffie.

Dislikes:
The left paw is way too un-proportionated.
The right ear sticks out a bit too funky.
The color/spots. The creamy color is nice with the white paws/snout/tail/chest, but the spots are throwing me off.
Ears should be white as well.
Can't forget those EYEBROWS!

Likes:
The body proportion.
The tail.
The paws.
The head with the facial features along with the eyes.

Other than that, If you don't stick with the Creamy/white colored fur, then I would prefer the Light Blue color that it has always been.

I will vote for the old one until the next revamp.

FINALLY a Ruffie that I would consider having. And please oh please, don't get rid of the eyebrows! I would only suggest to make them in a dark tan, not blue. It just stands out a little too much right now, imo.

I don't know why so many are complaining about the colors, though. I personally think they're beautiful, and it's not like tan and blue will be your only option.

As soon as I saw this, the first thought that ran through my head was "OMGSOCUTE!". I have to say, I never really liked the old Ruffie before; I always thought that FOUR dog-like pets are a bit much.. However, with this revamp, my mind is definately changed! I voted new, and I hope it wins.. this is so cute! I would actually consider getting a revamped Ruffie.

For some reason, though, the revamp doesn't remind me of a Bernese Mountain Dog, it reminds me of a Jack Russell Terrier! :3

Forgot to mention another idea for the ears if tipping or edging doesn't work: spots. Just regular blotchy spots like the ones on the rest of the body. Suppose it'll turn out similar to old debates over whether Dalmatians look better with fully black ears or spotted ears...

Also, now that people are mentioning the raised paw... structurally, it does look a little odd. Twisting of a raised forepaw like that is natural in feline species (just watch a cat batting a catnip mouse around), but I'm not sure if dog "wrists" work that way. I wouldn't want it changed though, honestly. I still dislike that flippy wrist look on raised paw pets like the Kora and Kanis, so this is a nice change of pace.

I think it's wonderful except...the eyebrows. They bug me. Maybe if they were a little bit longer or perhaps thinner? Or maybe no eyebrows at all would be better...hmm..other than that it's adorable and I would so want one.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

The ruffie clearly needs a revamp, but I think it deserves better than this.
I wish I could come with more useful critique, but I'm having a hard time expressing myself in English. I'll give it a try though:

There are several things about this revamp that just don't look "right". The eyebrows, the colours, the markings.. It's all a bit too much.
The eyebrows really freak me out. I think they make the ruffie look angry, which is weird since it's a "cute" pet. The rest of the face is nice, though.
In addition, like someone already mentioned, the angle of the right forepaw looks odd. With that angle, it would be more natural if we could see the outside of the paw and not the inside, eventually partial the inside.
Also, the tail doesn't look centered, I think it's placed a bit too much to our left.
Oh, and as for the colours, they don't seem to match eachother well. I believe the brown would go better with a clearer and less dirty blue colour.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Rah, I think the obvious solution is to have an eyebrow over one eye an no eyebrow over the other. Then everyone wins.

Maybe it's just me.... But... Doesn't it almost look like it is about to tip over? Maybe it's because I barely see the one back leg.... This is not meant has criticism... I love the detail... Just wondering if anyone else sees it or if I need new glasses... I also prefer the older brighter blue.... I do see the potential of the markings to really WOW us with other colors Subeta has available.... I did vote for the older one.... Nothing in particular.... I just like the "feel" of the old one.... Amazing job on the new one though....

I can understand trying for something different in the color scheme, but this probably wasn't the "something different" to go with. And having the ears entirely blue (entirely dark, I should say, in case by some miracle the color scheme is changed) does throw off the overall balance of the picture, with so much dark in the top half and all paleness in the bottom. Dark tips or edges might fix that, or even using a paler shade of the blue/dark color on just the top and outside part of the ear. There are multiple shades of tan/pale on the pet, so there could easily be multiple shades of blue/dark too.

Actually, now that I think about it, using a lighter color for the markings than the base color might look kinda interesting. But maybe that's just me since I always liked lighter accents on darker base colors. Otherwise, for something besides blue, deep reddish tones usually work well with tan.

For once I can't complain about the anatomy and design of this, though. The legs actually have some shape to them, and aren't disturbingly table-leg straight like, say, the Tigrean, Anyu, and Kanis. Pretty good coloring and furry appearance too.

Much, much, MUCH better! The only thing that really stood out to me was the lifted paw--it looks all crooked for some reason. That, and it's a bit chubby. Otherwise, though, it's a huge improvement!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Sistine

It's good art and a cute design. The tan really blew my mind at first, but I think I could get used to it. However, like people have been pointing out, there are just little oddities here and there that could be tweaked... I did a mockup that I'd like to share, if you don't mind :3 (ignore my horrible mouse-drawing skills)

The raised front leg looked really twisted, so I turned it around to show the top of the paw rather than the bottom. I also pulled the back leg out to the side a little more, since it did look sort of wobbly and unstable, and put a blue marking on it because that back area is looking awfully bare right now. I think part of the reason people are saying it looks so top-heavy is because those blue ears just dominate the entire thing with their... blue-ness. Got rid of that blue patch right behind the ear. Also, I rotated the eyebrows. They're the same size, just vertical now so they look more like a dog's eye pips and less like human brows.

Despite all this critique I think I'll vote for the revamp :>

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I like this revamp there's only a couple of things I would like to see changed or tweaked. The front paw that's lifted looks weird. The angle looks off. and the face looks a little too big for the ears. Anyways kudos to the artist

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by SHiVA
User Avatar

I can't explain why, but I don't like the black/blue color with the other two colors.. I just feel it doesn't go together well. I think a brown color that is darker than the tan base would do well. If the bluish color is changed, it will look better with another eye color. Even now with the black/blue fur, the eye color is bit out of place. A gold/amber color would probably work.

Other than the color thing, I think it looks great. The eyebrow thing doesn't bother me just because I recognize that as a trait some dogs have. I can understand the reaction from people who aren't familiar with that marking though, because they might look like bushy brows. To me they just look like markings though since there's no lineart around them like there probably would be with real eyebrows.

I like the 'eyebrow' marks on the face - they make it look different than every other generic spotted dog creature. ^^ Though I agree that the lighter tan line beneath them could be removed. Reshaping the marks could look better, too, as some people mentioned. o-o

I really like it except the right front leg seems a teensy wee bit too long (just a little bit)
