I like the art and shading on this one; it's really an upgrade. I think there are a few things that could be fixed, though.

I think that if the eye spots were the color of the muzzle and belly they'd look a lot better. Gewitter posted an image earlier in the thread that's helpful. Dogs' eye spots are usually lighter than the surrounding fur, not darker, and that's probably why more people are noticing them and saying they look weird. XD

Also, the far front paw seems to be turned too much for the average dog leg. Like it's twisted unnaturally or something.

This is minor, but I think if the blue looked more blackish, it'd look better.

Otherwise, it's very nice. Though, I think if the new sample had the same color scheme as the common ruffie, I'd find it easier to vote for one.

Okay, obviously seeing many of the comments, mine will be redundant, but I feel I have to post anyways. I voted for the revamp and absolutely adore it except for the following two reasons. First off, I don't care for the colour scheme chosen. Even the new Tur...Chelon wink look is more surreal. I think that the revamped Ruffie colouring is just too realistic and not as playful as it could be (love the shading though). Also, I like the eyebrows, but not the extreme contrast (again, having to do with colouring). I think that the revamp was very well done though artistically speaking and my kudos to the artists! Before the revamp I never would have considered owning a Ruffie, they have succeeded in changing that outlook.

I love this. I really do. I am not sure where people's gripes are coming from, because compared to the old one the art is totally amazing. Even not compared to the old one the art is totally amazing. Nice job Rah =D

I honestly think you just need to drop the eyebrow markings x D If you feel that the face is blank maybe instead do a marking on the cheeks, forehead, or coming from the muzzle?

Anyone who thinks this looks unproportioned or strangely posed, ummmm.... did you even LOOK at the other one??! lol in my opinion compared to the original this is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE improvement! I say Excellent job, Rah!

Considering I hate dogs, I like this one, the eyebrows are really cute
I think the dawn version of this pet would look really great.

I love how the new Ruffie is drawn except for (like most other I see lol) the coloring and the eyebrows just dont match how cute the revamp is... the eyebrows are just too bold for the look and the coloring is wrong, not only does it not suit the fantasy style of the other pets here, but the colors clash.... ok that was my two cents - as usual great job to the artists... keep up the good work =)

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

All I have to say is...Who picked this shade of brown with that shade of blue? Can't the Ruffie just stay baby blue? And the eyebrows need to go. The left (our right) leg could use some fixing up as well.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

|:C wow. I'm disappointed.
The position is okay and stuff, BUT IT MUST BE FLUFFIER.
And kill the eyebrows. T_T

Plus the coloring is ew. :c

Redraw the Clawsion too. T__T;;

Shiva...that is very interesting Maybe cream eyebrows instead of blue? I think that could work! (Because taking them off makes it look bald, and black lines for eyebrows don't work anymore because I've gone for more realistic colouring)

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I think ClockworkReverie's little image sums up the issues I have with this pet. I really like the new shading, but I still prefer the old one. I think the change is just too drastic, and the addition of spots just makes me nervous about different colors (i would hate to see the "purple" problems that Neo had with their spotted pets). I feel bad for saying all this because I know it must have taken forever to think/create this revamp. Sorry Rah.

agreed that the colors clash, but i guess they want to go for a more normal looking dog...though there are some things i don't like about it. maybe they should do another version, cause this one's like...2.0

I voted for the old one. There's something about this revamp that bothers me. Perhaps it's just my monitor, but the shading (especially the darker browns) seem too sharp and not "furry" enough. Also, the back leg joins the hip at a strange angle.

I like the eyebrows and the spots, though.

Two thumbs waaay down. It's a fantastic piece of art--I love the ears in particular--but I don't think it suits the Ruffie in the slightest.

That having been said, you guys can do whatever you want. I've never owned a Ruffie and I never will, so I can't complain. XD

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Oh god! I tohught it was mutated when I first saw it. I'm sorry I can't offer too much constructive critism here, but the thing that bothered me the most was the eyebrows, and how badly the blue and brown look together. Also, the head looks much different than the body to me.

One thing I don't like about the revamp polls in general is that they only show one color scheme for the proposed makeover-- and when the change is as drastic as this, I think we need to know what our options would be. Pets can look beautiful in some colors and absolutely horrific in others. Would this new Ruffie's eyebrows be so startling if it was, say, Cream? Or Dusk? Who knows? It would be nice to see just a few more color choices before we're asked which version we like better.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I really like the shading, and the anatomy is really good. It's a big improvement from the last one. :3 The only things that could use some changes are the "eyebrows", which don't really look like markings. Also, the color scheme seems odd to me.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Cute art, but the colors are...not fitting. Maybe for the Cream color, but it shouldn't be the default.

I, personaly, LOVE the big ears.

The dogs that normally have those eyebrow colors have a dark body and light markings right? Maybe that's what's throwing people off.

The tan, cream and blue just clash. The blue and tan or tan and cream would probably look good together, but I think the three put together just are working against each other. I'm also sort of disappointed by the change in the common color. The common color could remain a light blue color while the dusk is a darker blue. I'm not against the new tan color though.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

That colour is awful...and the eyebrows dont match the expression.

I voted new, but I'm with Paintz. I dislike the color scheme...but other than that it's good. A better version than the old.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Well done, the art is amazing, cheers to the artist. My only crits are that the ears are a little on the large side, but hey it is a puppy, right? I love the blue color, I love the tan... I just don't really like them together. And I love the idea of the eyebrows, almost every other pet gets eyebrows... my only thing is maybe they are a little too big? Maybe tone them down a bit and have them add to the expression of the cute chunky puppy?

Anywho, all in all great art, very cute. The Ruffie really needed the update. ;D

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Paint
User Avatar

Hm. This is VERY nice art, but it just doesn't do it for me?

First off, the eyebrow markings really don't fit with the ruffie nor to they make sense. I also really don't like the color choice, dark blue and tan honestly don't mix well, and then add the bright blue eyes and it's just not coordinated? It doesn't flow at all. I think and all brown or all blue color scheme would be best

I do love the expression. The front paw anatomy looks off as people have mentioned, though it's a nice pose. I also think it would be nice to add back the 'muzzle dots' since that gave it personality without showing whiskers.

I really like the idea of this revamp, just think it needs a bit more work c:

The thing that bugs me is that raised paw... it's angled wrong, and the pads are strange. The feet are catlike, not canine at all.

Eyebrows. ;o

I like it a lot. the shading is excellent, the colors are way better and it's just plain cute.

It has an adorable smile on it's face and the puppy paws are really cute and well drawn.

The only suggestion I might add is that it's pupils should maybe be black, not navy blue. It makes it look partially blind or something ... not that I have anything against blind beings, it just doesn't seem to suit the dog.

Really, really good job, though! I love it to bits and I hope this revamp works. [:

You guys are all being too picky. I doubt you would be able to do a better job than this excellent artist has done.

I like ClockWork's version of the revamp better. The current version is unstable, the pose is unnatural, and it's too FAT. And the ears are too big.

And please do not use that color combo. X_X

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Templar
User Avatar

Big no on the eyebrows. They're a bit too much. The left ear is also very big on it, if you ask me, and the raised paw is also very big and that angle makes it look... broken? I never saw any of the four dogs I had in my lifetime limp like that save for the one time my dog managed to throw his shoulder out... Even the lack of a prominant shoulder on the far side makes it look like it's shoulder was thrown out. The hind leg, too, at that strange swell beneath it's backside, makes it look all swollen and broken.
There is no connection between the front half, meaning the head to the strangely angular curve of the belly, and it's oddly fuzzless backside.... And yeah, the tail is off, too. It looks like it would be connected to the other buttcheek.
What I DO like is the way the head is tilted, the darker line between the eyes, the eyes themselves and the contradicting color scheme... and the chestfluff. It's not overbearing like other revamps, and it's crested at the right spot, just like my dog's. Other revamps with the maxed-out chestfluff occuring all the time could take an example from that. He actually looks like he has a colarbone instead of mandoggyboobs. x; Though, because of the other reasons I mentioned, I'm afraid that I had to vote old. If user critiques are taken into account, this will be a great, if overly cute, revamos.
And in my opinion, the far back paw isn't needed, unless the ruffie is... mooning you. It would look fine either way, though I think a better thing would be to get rid of the toe-and-a-half we can see, sinve they look smaller than the rest of it's toes and are an unneccesairy detail.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I don't much like the colors, but I like them better than the old one xD other than that, I love this one! The shading gives it a much better furry-ness look (the old one looked like... a blue penguin-dog xDDD) and the pose is better. The anatomy is better. Eyebrows! Dogs have eyebrows, but the color of the eyebrows make them stand out just a little bit too much ^^; But thats just my opinion, I know nothing about drawing animals (Except cocker spaniels and random horses, which my friends tell me I'm good at, but I really suck xD)

The art is much improved, and very nice!

I don't really like it though. It looks more . . . scruffy? Rugged? It seems to have lost the "happy go lucky I'm a playful puppy dog" look. I'm kinda meh on the color scheme, but since it will come in many other colors, I don't think its a big deal.

As for the eyebrows ~ on one hand, they add character! But on the other hand, they look a bit off to me. Sure, I've seen dogs with eyebrow-like fur, though the color contrast isn't normally quite so pronounced (except in some purebreds that have other color patterns as well, like the pic posted further down), it is more subtle.

Still, nice art!

I like the colour combonation going on here I still think it needs work though. I don't think it looks too bad but I feel for some reason it's lost allot of it's puppy looks, it looks older...

Also I don't like the eyes they seem kind of flat in my opinion and they look fogy'ish the colours I mean. The eyes don't look bright and twinkly with mischief. Despite this I am in love with the colours of the fur and I think it looks much more realistic than the old cartoon'ish one. I'm voting for the new revamp I can see a big improvment between the two.

I love the face its got such a cute expression

The paws and the ears look weird though. The ears are to big and make the head look heavy, not to mention the left ear has that curving line that makes it look strange.

The legs are to short for the body, and that paw thats lifted looks like its broken.
