I know of and support staff not setting sP to CSC conversion rates, but CSC consistently inflates annually because of the Black Friday sale. Maybe some sP sinks or balancing measures could be rolled out around the same time?

You do have a point. Wearables seem to be the most sought after items on this website. Not everyone is a battler, plushies and beanbags usually just get bought once and then sold afterwards unless they got other reasons. Maybe adding a few sets of clothing to the shop 2-4 times a year like you said wouldn't be so bad.
a. certainly not a parallel, but principles are applicable. b. some inflation is a great thing, consistent deflation, generally not so much. But if inflation continues things are inevitably going to rise beyond the point where they're as obtainable for a new player as they are now. Upping the sP output rates of quests to "catch-up" to that only adds to the problem, especially since the sP is generally not leaving. c. alternative currencies and requiring participation is absolutely fantastic, and that's that :) s. losing staff time for an ineffective sP sink is a bad idea of course, agreed. one off purchases (or even things like antique shop books that might be bought several times by a player) are definitely not the best way to go.
But there does need to be SOMETHING (that no one has come up with yet) that people, especially those with the most sP, can spend sP on so that 1. it's flowing to other players faar more than it is now) and 2. it's leaving the economy at a comparable rate so that we're not generating hundreds of thousands of sP per active player daily, (as the average seems to be now). The fact is that this idea is, as of yet, clearly undiscovered. So if one end of the problem can't be fixed while the other could be, why not for the time being at least, fix it somewhat. Clearly there is a problem. Even several of the people who utterly disagree with my, admittedly drastic, solution, admit either they know there's a problem or that they don't understand much of economics. I just want to see the long term success of this site because I enjoy it, and from all of my experience playing online games, I can say for sure that a good economy is one of the keys and necessities to a game's longevity. And then naturally, this is something that would make sense to me to be overall good for the game, even with the initial grief of players who always want more and never less...
I understand economics just fine, I just think your solution will hurt the site more than it helps. There's more to a good economy than inflation rates. We have such a small economy that one person can buy up all of a single item and charge whatever they want for it, and until staff intervenes by releasing more, that item is overpriced. This isn't something that happens in a utopian economy.
Maybe we haven't thought of any good sinks because there isn't one sink that will be a cureall? No one is going to sink all their money through one source. People like variety and getting something in return. They can do this through various account upgrades like tc slot expansions, experiment zapping, and maybe a few other things, or buy directly buying an item. What else could there really be? Shop sizes get capped and we have to buy temporary size increases? Pet slot taxes? All of this sounds like a hassle to me.
It could have been mass adding to collections, but sadly, it didn't happen.
I'm alright with pet slot taxes only if we can pet stat taxes too :P (and I can use Mayday for tax deductions)
Seriously, like I told Mike, mass adding collectibles SHOULD have been a sink. People wouldn't have minded paying for that.
I think the best SP sinks are the ones linked to achievements who award things such as titles, and also skins.
We haven't had skins released in a while. A skin shop would seriously be a gr8 sink
Said that sarcastically because I know who reads these posts :p
Skin shop would be good, don't make them too cheap, people need to earn things.
Mass adding would have been okay but after you mass add a good amount of things, mass adding makes no sense to do. You get maybe 2-3 items at a time and manually add them.
It's not a sink that's going to be used by everyone forever, but it would have been something that would have been used by people on a daily basis, even at a low fee. Like, people who vend for plushies/beanbags and such. I feel it would have been similar to the sticker system, not everyone uses it, but we're glad it's here, even if there is a fee!
Also, I think staff needs to go and do these cherry/silver plushies ;). Would be fun for collectors, at least (because cherry is best color)
The hairstyles from the Cruise sold quite well, and I don't think we got many unlockable skins, did we? We got the terrifying Lace skin and maybe something else? I'm not even sure
Well, you're one of the several other who does understand economics and still disagrees, that's fine too :). I think things like buying up all of an item to try and sell it for more is fair enough with it's own set of risk vs reward, such as the fact that many items just don't ever sell and many people have random hoards of tons of different items. It's hardly ever successful else it would be happening far more frequently and be far more of a hassle vs people simply noticing it and looking down on it publicly. It doesn't matter what a good sink is until one happens, because we don't have one yet. Without looking at any hard internal data, I can say with near absolute certainty that the 300m pet slots was the quickest and highest sP sink this site has had. BUT because it's a one off purchase, the site has already regenerated all but less than 10% of what was spent, and that was all AFTER the quest-a-thon. Anything that becomes an expense, or an immediate decrease in profits is a hassle for users, so yes likely anything successful would likely be a hassle, unfortunately.
Except maybe if we could think of lots things like said. I don't think having made that an sP cost instead of a GA freebie would have any effect on subeta's real income.
I don't know, I need to see numbers for self-sticking, if it's working well or not. Self-sticking is not a big SP sink, being 10K per sticker, but a lot of 10K add up quickly.
I really want to see numbers on the smaller sinks. Color me curious.
burninator skin is the only one I can think of.
being able to manipulate the economy singlehandedly is prevented in the real world by law. it's probably not successful, I have often questioned why people do this, and it only hurts the newer users who suddenly think a marsh potion is 10 mil and they go buy one. I still think more things in the MC would be better than putting stuff in restockable shops. there are specific types of items that many users want. Maybe someone can focus on a few of the more popular ideas and stick them in the MC. this doesn't need to be done on a regular schedule, but putting a few items bit by bit into the permanent section or a new section of the MC makes more sense than having stuff in the restockable shops that really sinks 3k out of the economy bit by bit until they get removed because they are worthless items.
@ Sopheroo iirc without looking back and without knowing exactly how long it had been, keith said that something like 1b was removed with the introduction TC slots. It was at least several days, and the initial release always see's more use than it would later on. 1b in those terms is basically a pittance. 1b from stickers would mean 1k people sticking themselves 100 times each, i would be floored if it's had anywhere near that much use :/. But little things do add up, more things like this would always be better. I still am adamant that we need something for people with billions to spend some their sP on, and a reason to be buying various things from other players.
well I don't think MC stuff is ever a bad idea, and it does help for sure. Even so, releasing far less sP, even if increasing it after there are some successful sP sinks, would be better. But that's not to say we shouldn't have lots of little things as well, you're definitely right on that.
Why does someone save up billions in the first place? If nothing appeals to them now, what would appeal to them that they're going to spend that much on?
This is the question I'm always asking myself, tbh.
I think it's too late to find sinks for people in the billionaire range, tbh. I think we're better off trying to find sinks that work for the majority of the people, like the pet slots, something that demands work for the middle class to get, but is not totally impossible.
Something small, but is repeated often, like the sticker service, is also something I like. Or, the gift center. 1K per gift is NOT A LOT, but a lot of not a lot can amount to a fair bit!
@ kbbob Literally because there is nothing to spend sP on. There is near enough nothing that you could buy for 3b outside of the antique shop. There needs to be something. I don't know what that is though.
as far as what would make a successful sP sink. an example might be something like minion battling. If it cost 100k*minion level to level up a minion when it's implemented, it would cost over 100m to reach level 50, and would require people to continually progress. minion battling would never be popular enough for this to work, but if it were, slap in a high score for minion levels and boom you've got a never ending sink.
honestly we should ignore the people above a certain sP, they are statistical outliers at this point aren't they?
I still think we should have orange and pink user icons. make them cost 1b each or something.
I had every color of usericon but the green one, I would pay 1B to become a NPC.
:P
In all seriousness, I like the idea of custom icons. I would showcase my team hot dog pride forever
there aren't many colors we could do for the user icon because at some point, it just gets confusing which color is what (maybe if they were bigger) but custom images would be quite cool. I don't know how well this would work, but it would be fun and you could add a lot of personality to your own account.
Wrath of Kalsdkfjaskjdf / SoSS? yeah, if you have any other fire/water blocker, the 3.75b or whatever pricetag on those is not worth it.
One of the few groups of people willing to spend SP are battlers. So, it's a good group to target. I mean a natasha is worth the newly released pet slots.. twice and then some. And that's like the cheapest godly available.
