- I think they were going for nasiolabial folds (I think that's the right term?), but it's too bold and overpowers the actual smile.

That's what I was thinking, but even in a cartoony style, they don't work like that on a muzzle, so either way it needs fixing imo.
For the most part, I really like the new Manchu. I think the thing that bothers me the most are the front paws. They look too much like human fingers to me. I can't stop looking at them...
I do echo a lot of the other thoughts out there. The new Manchu's personality doesn't match the old personality. The new one looks like it's thinking, "Please adopt me... I'm so adorable... Take me home", which is cute, but not what I think the Manchu's personality should be.
I also think the markings on the Manchu should be lightened. I'm in full support of removal of the wing flaps. I honestly didn't know they were there until they were mentioned on this thread.
And I'm really curious about the wing flaps. To be honest, I forgot they even had them and had to go back to check. That said, the manchu is just a regular lemur without them, so I wonder why they're going away? It would have been interesting to see them redesigned instead of just removed.
If it's that they're in the way for most poses, why not make them more realistic like flying squirrels and sugar gliders? On them, it's like an extra flap of skin that just looks like a slight ridge along the side of the body and legs when not in use.

Lemurs do have fingerlike toes. Go google lemur toes. They're opposable. But I'd like the manchu better if it had claws on its front as well as the back.

I know they're supposed to be that way. It just wasn't as noticeable on the old Manchu pose and now it's totally in your face. I'll get used to it ;)
I dislike that the wingflaps are being removed, without any real logical reason. Why ask the player base for feedback, and not take their views on that into consideration?
I think removing the wingflaps will result in a drastically different Angelic Manchu:

And that really blows for the people that like that pet (and paid money for the potion!)
Subeta pets are unusually striking viewed the first time. In their pose we could be equals. Another way of putting it we are in Subeta with them. In my imagination a small mischievous animal would be constantly moving. A manchu in motion side view turning its head towards us with expression Hurry up lets do it would be better than a static manchu.
I line that the lines for the hind legs are not as solid as before, gives it a much more professional look and pops off the page more with the softer lines
I like both the old and new art, but there are certain things about the old art that I would like to keep in the new. The angle of the eyes and eyebrows in the old art makes the Manchu very endearing, plus it's looking right at you. The new one seems more impersonal to me as it's focusing in the distance. I also like the old ears better; maybe it's the angle. I also really like the tail shape and position of the old Manchu. It seems more graceful and flexible, whereas the new tail seems stiff to me. The addition of more stripes is nice, though, because it makes it look more like a real ring-tailed lemur's tail (and I love ring-tailed lemurs). I like the way all four paws are solidly planted on the ground in the new art; the old one did indeed seem unstable. I like the shading on the new one also. All in all, I like the old Manchu's eyes, ears, and tail shape, but the new one's feet, shading, and tail stripe number.
There is nothing that I don't like about the revamp! I sort of hated the flaps on the side, it makes no sense to me. I love the cuter, fluffier appearance and the bigger ears and smaller head. Lemurs are my favorite animal, and I'm super happy to see these changes, because I didn't like Manchus before.
I don't like this new look because of the marks.
If manchu fur is that fluffy, then the knee and wrist markings would not be so distinct unless they were brands or hairless areas close to the skin. If not-fluffy is the case, the marks are missing a depth cue. If it's not that and they are evenly fluffy, then the marks should be less distinct.
new one is WAY better
thats why I love subeta, youre always trying your hardest to improve the art of the pets, unlike neo who has the same ugly ass pets 10 years later
this is gonna sound super petty but the only thing that's bothering me are the eyebrows. they look... idk how to describe it- apologetic? switch em back to the style of the original and i'd be completely fine with it
that said, i rather like the revamp and i think i'd probably get more manchus when the revamp goes through (currently own one but have always wanted more, just never been able to settle on a second color i wanted)
I prefer the new one. I love the extra fluff on its design. Also, the way the head is looking up more than the old one adds a nice look to its appearance.
I actually prefer the new version. The old one was cute too, but more detail makes this more appealing. My only issues are that the fur sees to end like a sweater before his front paws (which isn't a major complaint) and the end of his tail looks like the lines are slightly thicker than the rest of the design. I actually am enticed to get a Manchu with the newer design...especially that face! I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about concerning the face: I like the fact that it looks much more intelligent and inquisitive.
I like it.
Shalashaska's suggested facial expression doesn't really do it for me either. Instead of playful, it looks sly. I really miss that wide-eyed playful look and lifted left paw

Okay, I think I finally realized what was off on the tail for me. Trying to imagine the spine as it goes into the tail the angle looks too harsh to be comfortable, if even possible. Maybe bring the base out from the body (just a tad more) to give it a more fluid appearance?
(Still love that ear floof, I'm a sucker for that shit :p)

I generally speaking like the new manchu. Same basic feel but tighter anatomy.
I am, however, gonna miss the curvy bits of the old manchu. The new one has lost a lot of the flow. The ears no longer come in near the top to give a paisley shape. And the tail is held at a much stiffer angle than the old manchu. So, my advice is to incorporate a little more of those curves in the new manchu and I will be totally happy.
