It does connect the front and back legs =3 It's appeared in the lemur family too, but flying lemurs aren't as pretty as flying squirrels imo XD its quite a successful gliding technique for arboreal mammals. The Manchu is from a tropical island with a jungle, so it'd make sense for it to retain that gliding ability, where as the ring-tail it's based on is more a Savannah lemur than jungle, so it walks.

[edit] Infact flying lemurs take it further, linking chin, all fingers and toes, legs and tail. That is a flying place mat.

The art is overall a big improvement, but yeah, the face needs to be more lively.

i like the new version a lot, but i do have a couple of thoughts.

1. the expression looks a bit odd, slightly worried and vacant. i'd recommend making it more mischievous-looking, maybe by arching the brows a little more inward.

2. the orange color used for the markings and sclerae is a bit dark in my opinion - it doesn't really contrast with the blue of the fur enough to make the markings stand out; instead, they just sort of make me strain my eyes. and while the eyes do more closely resemble a real lemur, they kind of lose a bit of that "bright-eyed" look because the sclerae blend in with the irises, which i think contributes to the odd expression. i would suggest using a slightly lighter orange, so that the eyes and markings "pop" better.

I'm on the fence on this one. It took me a bit to figure out why it looked so wrong, but I think I've got it covered.

I'm just going to repeat what everyone's said by now: The expression and body language looks worried or terrified instead of the playful of the old. Relax the eyes and brows a little bit and it might look better.

Also the wing flaps are missing and, as a defining trait of Manchus to separate them from every other brightly colored lemur on the internet, they really should be added back. Without them we just have, well, a blue lemur, and not any type of unique animal from a different, magical world called Subeta. I suggest making the wings either covered in fur, or making them very thing, translucent membrane like what bats have. That'll keep the unique, hybrid look without it looking just.... Weird.

Overall the new art looks amazing! Well detailed, makes them look very fluffy actually. They look like they'd be very soft if I picked them up. The tail is more like a primate tail and not a striped ribbon. I'm loving the colors, though the blue/orange on the body could be a bit lighter I think. The anatomy is far better and the feet look more natural. It really looks like a lemur! .... And I think that might be the main issue of why it is so weird and off to me; It looks like a lemur, and not a Manchu.

I actually do have some critique for the redesign, and I dearly hope this post gets through to the lovely artist(s) working on this project.

A comparision of Old, Proposed, and my suggestions:

1. Butt kept rounded, if only a bit. The round butt makes the manchu cute.
2. Ear bits on its right (our left) side should protrude over the tail, like so.
3. The pointed swirled tail is adorable. Please keep, rather than realistic tail.
4. Can we please add little puffs on the front arms for interesting arm shapes?

I much prefer the revamp, I like the fur and the extra detail.

Ahh okay, there's just more skin there than I realized! AND I didn't know some lemurs could glide :3 Cool! And pffft, that IS a place mat. Kind of makes me like lemurs more :) Thanks for the info!

(And the color theory stuff earlier, omg. My idea of using color is more OOH THAT'S PRETTY LET'S PUT THAT THERE so I need to learn about this stuff.)

I love the new revamp!! Never even knew the Manchu had wingflaps tbh. The only thing I miss is its original crazy extra swirly tuff of hair. D'8

i personally never noticed the manchu had wingflaps, and then looking at them i became distracted by them, so i am glad they were taken out all together. i enjoy 's feedback, however the redraw on their eyebrows should stay as the artist did them, not as shala did (not trying to bash, just voicing an opinion, xoxo great job though seriously.) i do agree in the reason why shala changed them, they do look a little worried, and the way the eyebrows are done do convey worry. however, image of lemurs all three of these lemurs do have a 'point' where the black ends, and thus giving them a worried look no matter the angle you look at them. it's just a worried looking little fellow. i do agree the light yellow on the artist redraw looks light, and clashes with the white in the tail, shala's darker version of yellow helps make the markings stand out more.

as far as the legs and the arm movement goes, i am indifferent, either version of the artist or shala's would work great.

overall, i love the fact the manchu is getting a revamp. and thank you for letting people critique it before pushing the revamp.

Oh yeah, it's super elastic skin, but even so it bunches up in rolls when it's not stretched out but it's not obvious. I probably could have pushed the way it was drawn a bit more on the Manchu, but I just wanted a rough up of it.

That's pretty much where I'm at OTL I can spot colour theory done well or badly, but applying it myself is turning out to be a bit more of a challenge... I like this =1000u0kllllaFw0g0qFqFg0w0aF">LINK website, so damn useful for the colouring challenged like myself.

I love what you did with the butt! It looks more playfull that way! the right rear leg is the only thing that seems a bit off now.. I dont know what it is though.. maybe because it's so hairy? Or the foot is a bit too big? Idk..

I like round butts and I can not lie. All you other players can't deny. When a manchu totters in with a nifty new remake and a round butt in your face~ YOU GET EXCITED.

The new one looks scared. It's eyes, the slight down-curve on the edge of the mouth, the way all of the fur spikes upward (chest and ears, mainly), and the stiff front legs all make it look like someone just blasted an airhorn at it or something.

Considering its Matlal's best bud, I think the manchu needs to look more playful or mischievous than it does.

Basically the art's nice, but the body language is all wrong for this particular species.

The weird thing is, if you blow up the proposed version, it does appear to have a smile, but for some reason the blue area has extra lineart that all blends together and makes it look :{ on the small version.

The foot thing might just be a style difference, I've drawn the toes very differently, and sunk the claws in more, done by the official artist it'd probably match fine =3 though the right heel might protrude a bit more idk.

I prefer how the old one looks more lithe than than the revamp due to the curve in it's posture but that's really minor. I much prefer the revamp.

I really, really like the new design. If they push a new one after this and I happen to like it less (and I get a manchu anytime soon), not gonna lie I'd possibly recolor this one.

That said with the removal of the wing flaps I'd like to say that narrows down the manchu more and I'd totally love to see another pet to have it - not because I liked it on the manchu (I don't and I am glad they are gone), but like. Sugar glider pet y/y

I voted for the old one for that sole reason.

It's an adorable lemur pet, but yeah, it's not a Manchu. If the Manchu had been introduced this way, as just a lemur pet, yeah, I would have been happy. But, it lost part of its...muchness and I'm not sure if I like this.

I feel like the people who were upset at the Rreign revamp, when SUDDEN WINGS
