Howdy, folks. I was just curious... I know I am not the only one who names their cars, because a majority of my friends do it too. So... what did you name your cars? :D
Here's my list: Maroon Buick Skylark - Betzi Silver Dodge Intrepid - Dobber (Like Dauber... also, the nickname of a boy I liked at the time :) ). Silver Chevy Aveo - Puka (She was from Hawaii) White Nissan Sentra - Blanche (License plate had BGF on it.... so she was "Blanche, my Golden Friend. ;) ) Blue Murano - Chief ... Should have named him "Money Pit". It's our last day together... and I'm ok with it. If all goes well, I'm getting a Silver Mazda today. I'll update later with a name. [edit] Her name is Hermione.
I don't name my cars though I do name my tech if that fits. My 2018 11" iPad Pro is named Wendy after Wendy from Peter Pan because all my tech is named after Disney characters, haha. I have a 2016 Honda Fit that's pretty bright yellow, it was the only color available for that particular model for lease when I was in grad school and after grad school, I paid off the remainder of the car and kept it because I needed a car and didn't really care to just buy an entirely new car.
It's only ever been named yellow Honda Fit though.
I had an old diesel Mercedes I named Rudi (after Rudolf Diesel).
Had a New Beetle named Vinnie (actually my sister named him, I don't know why he was a Vinnie but he sure was...maybe it was the giant magnetic mustache on the hood, really gave him character). As an aside, New Beetles are terrible cars; do not recommend.
Now have a Saturn Vue named Darth Vader because it has always had some weird issue with the vents/AC that makes it sound just like the way he breathes, and it's all black with dark tinted windows and red stripes on the sides so resembles his suit/helmet/lightsaber too.
My last gaming computer was Cherenkov because it had blue LEDs inside that made it glow like a reactor.
Current gaming computer is Chernobog because the case is all black and it has the best specs of any PC I've ever had so...kinda godly I guess?
I currently have a 98 buick that I named Milda
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
I'm loving all of this... Thanks for replying to the thread. :D
The 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner is a spiffy looking car. Nice.
- I have a tendency to name some of my tech too. My computer at work is named "Galaxy". My old tablet was named "Iggy". My laptop is named "Lenny" (He's a Lenovo).
- Your Vader Vue sounds like a very intriguing car. I love that the name matches not only with the color of the car, but also the sounds it makes. I'm debating on going with a Star Wars name for my new car too. I'm going to drive it around a few days, maybe wait for the plates before I officially decide on a name.
waves Hi, Milda. A 98'?! Good job. Keep on truckin'.
I was going to name it Black Rain at first but then I heard that noise from the vents and I was like damn, my car is literally Darth Vader. I even got a little plush Vader ornament to hang inside. I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan lol (big Trekkie here...although I'm not going to get into a nerd fight with anyone over it; I think all sci-fi is interesting). Star Wars does have some cool names to use.
Good luck thinking of a name; let us know what you come up with! I don't always name my cars; sometimes they just don't inspire me. The car I had before Vader was a Subaru Legacy in the most boring and invisible shade of brownish gray ever and I liked it for being a good, practical vehicle but it never exuded any personality at all.
Our first car that had a name, and where I got the idea to name my vehicles, was the white van we had when I was a kid.
She was some model from the 90s, named Eleanor.
Then I had my red mitsubishi eclipse named Elizabeth.
And now I have a blue nissan versa named Peggy! She's a dear, I love her.
My brother has a new car named Bev, she's a pretty blue kia. And my partner has an old silver volvo, named Melkior!
In my household we name our cars after the license plate, so we've had Bönan because of the letters KFE which is like kaffe which means coffee, and coffee is a bean which is böna in our language. One car simply named Paj because the letters PAJ, which means pie but ALSO it's unfortunately slang for broken and yeah it was often broken. We've had Agenten, meaning the agent, and I think the letters were GNT, we've had one called Smulan or Kexet and I don't remember all the letters but XE was there and there's not many words in Swedish with an X in them. Kex means crackers and smulan means the crumble. (I don't personally have a car, I will commute by bus as far as possible!) (also all our cars have been bought second hand so we buy them cheap and drive them until they're broken beyond repair and that's why they are so many)
In my country, before they changed it maybe one or two years ago, a license plate would be ABC 999 Three letters, three numbers but they were running out of combinations so now it's four letters, two numbers, like ABC 99A
🧊 Sticker wishlist 🧊
My first car was a little silver Ford Focus, and I named her Tess. I don't know why but the name just popped into my head and there she was. Everyone I knew called her that lol My second car was a Toyota RAV4 whom I, very creatively, just named Rav, or Ravi... by the end of it's life it was cursed with many names because it was driving me so insane, but I did enjoy that car, I learned a lot driving it
My current vehicle is a Ford Escape, and I just called it 'the escape.' I tried coming up with a name for it, but all I could think about every time I talked about it was Dory from Finding Nemo saying 'es-capeh' so that's honestly what I call it most of the time
I'm loving all of the ways your cars get their names. :) Thank you for sharing, everyone.
I am waiting for my plate to arrive before I settle on a name. :)
My first car was a greenish 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse and I named her Tina because her engine whined and it reminded me of Tina from Bob's Burgers lmao
LOL... love it.
I finally named my new car. The license plate came back with H's on it and a 7... so imagining 7 horcruxes (A matter for debate among some)... I have been calling my car a "she", so I decided upon Hermione. Not at all where I thought I was going to end up as I was pretty set on a Star Wars or The Office theme, but here we are. Now I get to deck my car out in some Hogwarts and Hallows gear.
Alright... I've gotta ask... is it a Scion xB? Kia Soul? Nissan Cube? Why "Milk Carton"? White? :D
i'm not a cars guy BUT, used to have a 2000 silver platz i inhereted from my grandad, he called her the turtle so i also called her the turtle. idk how long he had her but i drove her for a good decade before her motor gave out a couple months ago. may her memory be a blessing uvu
now we've got a little forth-hand gold getz, whatever that means, and she's been nameless since we got her but i decided the other day i'm going to name her grunty (short for gruntilda) because i like banjo kazooie and also she is a grunty little machine. i think she's been outfitted with a motor that's much smaller than she originally had, so even getting up to 50kph make her absolutely roar lmao
lmao it’s a tracker-type thing, a Suzuki Vitara. He started out dark green with white splotches, bc a guy was supposed to paint him but then went to jail…for meth. My dad’s bf owned him then. He paid $800 alone for the “paint job” which, obv didn’t get done. That’s when I bought him from my bf’s dad, for $900, and he was all messed up, so my bf painted him pearly minty green. It’s just very square-ish, and a bit rounded somehow, you know how like, school lunch milk cartons would sometimes freeze and be deformed? So they’d bulge? XD it’s hard to explain, but it just felt right.
LOL. Thank you for sharing. :D
I haven't read through all of these, but I'm definitely going to! I love meeting other people who name their cars! Mine have been, in order, Claude (after Claude Monet), Jasmine (after the scent), Malcolm (andter Malcolm Reynolds), and Zoë (my current car, after Zoë Washburne). I lost Malcolm tragically when I got rear-ended on my way to a New Years Eve party in 2014, so I had to name his successor after Captain Mal's first officer. A friend of mine bought me Malcolm Reynolds dog tags to hang in my rearview mirror after I got Malcolm (I should text her to remind her what a thoughtful gift that was), so of course I ceremoniously hung them from Zoë's rearview mirror after I bought her. She also has a license plate cover (given to me by the same friend) that says "I am a leaf on the wind... Wash is my copilot."
