After a long period of silence and general disinterest, the aeries have decided to try and rearrange their feathers a bit! What do you think?

I liked this one better. (Forgive me, if it doesn't work xD)

But, for the current revamp, I agree with changing the front legs and removing the green feathers (or perhaps changing the color of them. The green looks a bit odd.)

I can't decide....I definitely like the artwork much better on the newer one, but the front legs kind of gross me out. I think they look more like raw chicken to me or something. But I love it's facial expression, the little feathers-hanging-from-its-ear detail, and its tail feathers are lovely. Hahaha, I almost said "fail teathers" ROFL

...I just thought, would the feathers maybe look better on the lower part of the ear, rather than where they are? It was just a random thought that popped into my head as I was looking at them.

I really like the art of this Aerie. The design I'm not so sure on, but the art is very nice. I do think that the feather earring (or whatever it is) is nice, but I don't know if I would like it as a permanent feature on the Aerie.

Also, I agree that green is too close to Field. But wait, brown is to close to Marsh, especially with the green feather earring. Huh, it seems that no matter what the common color is, there's going to be a potion that matches it somewhat.

I think the face is simply gorgeous and I really like the addition of the feather earring. Something about the body seems a little too bulky though, I can't quite put my finger on it. Also, the old aerie didn't have bird talons, and I kind of miss the paws. However, I understand that traditional gryphons usually have bird talons (like my fursona). I think that the way the talons are drawn is a teensy bit off though. The toes should be slightly longer, and bird talons always have a back claw so that they can grip branches etc. The top of the leg should also be thinner for bird-like legs, and the fur may look better coming down the leg a little further. I'll see if I can do a redline to illustrate what I'm trying to get across. I think the coloring is beautiful though, and I am SO happy to see that the aerie is being worked on; I adore my aeries. =)

Mm, the wings seem a touch small, but otherwise I really like it. I agree with what's been said about the front feet, though. There's just something not quite right.

I LOVE the feathers by the ear. Will my Hydrus get those, too? I was also wondering if the legs on the Hydrus would be updated, because even though they don't seem quite right here, they're definitely an improvement!

Because what Subeta needs is realism, amirite? No but seriously. I'm no art expert but I'm pretty sure if they took this new design and tried to squeeze it into the dimensions it's in AND give it a supposedly dynamic pose, twisting in the air or sticking paws out and such, it would end up as a very busy picture. People would then be complaining that the features were hard to make out, or it doesn't look right, or what-have-you. And where are people getting the muscular/stocky thing from? I don't see -any- overly defined muscles. The only hint of it I see is in the back legs, and lines like that are natural to sitting animals. I can take a picture of my cat for proof.

Pretty overall, and much better than the old version, but... the front legs are too thick, more like scale-covered mammalian legs than avian, and the hind legs look kinda anthro, like they come out and are sized more like human legs than feline.

First off, it gives an absolutely gorgeous impression. I love it. Its booty seems a little flat at the back, maybe its because of the angle, but it seems a tiny bit off. I agree with the wings being a little small, although that could be fixed by giving more definition to the wings in order to make them look as if they are folded instead of just turned sideways. (foreshortening and perspective - the two banes of my artistic attempts, haha x3)

I love the tails, and I absolutely adore the spottiness on its back.

I love this revamp and was wondering when we'd get back to a new Aerie poll.

The only thing I'm a little leery about with this is the feather earring. It seems...just kind of tacked on in my opinion (but I do see where the whole 'tribute to the old scheme' would come in)

Lately all new pet art is just... sitting there. Stylistic preference, maybe, but it's sort of disappointing. Especially compared to the old Aerie, which looks like it's been off enjoying a flight around Subeta.

I believe as the user base is expanding, the 'normal' colors are being fashioned to be more neutral so that individuals can give their personalities and such to their pets. For people who are looking for a more pronounced mood (i.e. scary, happy go-lucky, innocent) they have the opportunity of doing that with the 'special' colors. That's one of the traits that makes those special colors special.

I don't like it. It seems way too bulky/stocky, and I don't really like how the forelegs were drawn. I think the tail feathers need to be done differently, too.

Itt's regal. Like an eagle. (Non-intentional rhyme) Not every pet has to look super playful. Some of them have a silent grace that comes from looking respectful.

I like it, but I think that the feathers and fur need to have a bit more detail to them, and I think that it looks a little...flat? A bit more definition would be nice, and the talons, I think, look a little too much like paws. Maybe making them longer and skinnier?

But, either way, great job, guys.

I love it. Absolutely love it. I'm so happy to see the Aerie look less cutesy. Wayyy less cutesy!

The anatomy is excellent and the face is beautiful. The only problem is the wings are just a hair too small, but they're beautifully drawn otherwise.

I think the feather earring looks great. Maybe more people would like it if it wasn't green? I have no problem with it, though, I think it's a sweet touch.

When I first saw this revamp, I absolutely detested it. But, after coming back and comparing the old and the new Aerie, and actually /thinking/ about it for a while, I came to the conclusion that it is actually quite nice. The only part that still rubs me the wrong way is the earring/feathers... thing.

I generally dislike the idea of accessories and such on "official" pets, mostly because A) I find it difficult to believe that every Aerie is born with an earring, and B) accessories are something that I feel should be up to the pet owner to decide, though custom design, rather than something that is included with the pet.

I realize that I do not own an Aerie, nor to I ever plan to, and as such my opinion may very well be disregarded.

The art on this revamp is very well done, bravo to the artist!

Nice art and all, and an improvement over the previously polled revamp... but... it's just not an Aerie anymore. And it doesn't seem to mesh with the other pets on the site.

As for more detailed critiques...

-The hind leg. I think the problem is that the outermost toe is set too far back on the foot, too far away from the rest of the toes. Move it forward a bit (or even remove it) and the foot will look much better.

-The front legs. They're like... lion paws, but scaly instead of furry. Which, with the leonine musculature, ends up looking awkward. I say pick one or the other, lion paws or eagle talons, and stick with it.

-The tails. The extra-bulkiness combined with the darker color makes them look like they're not really part of the animal. Maybe add a streak of the body color to them to balance out the colors.

-The wings. I know space is limited for pet art, but... you have this big, powerful, muscular, furry, realistic gryphon... with tiny little clipped wings. They don't really fit. Same problem the Serpenth suffered in its recent revamp.

-The pose. What happened to the lively, dynamic poses that used to make this site's pet art fun? Lately all new pet art is just... sitting there. Stylistic preference, maybe, but it's sort of disappointing. Especially compared to the old Aerie, which looks like it's been off enjoying a flight around Subeta.

Well, I think this is A LOT better than the older one. xD Thats for sure. I love how the griffen theme was played out into it. The legs are not too skinny at all. o_o Thats actually the right size compaired to the body, any smaller and it'd look so wierd. But yeah... I love it. ^^

I agree the Aerie desperately need a makeover, but I'm not terribly fond of this new design. The head's okay, but it seems to me the wings need to be a bit bigger. The back legs work, but the front ones look off for some reason. And the tail feathers I don't like at all, they're just really weird. =/ They're too fluffy, I think they need to be more stream lined.

I like the looks of it mostly (the front legs seem a bit off to me. I know it's more griffin-like, but it's not great), but there's too much brown... Normally it's not bad, but I liked the common aerie being green. I know you could always change the color, but it's not the same, y'know?

I don't think the front legs look thick.. I think any skinnier and they wouldn't be able to support the body. XD The fluffy on the back leg is a bit odd? I want those tail feathers. :'D They look so pretty and fluffy and soft, awesome texture work Jag. _ Also long the sort of native feeling the feather charm adds, but.. that's me. XD Anyway - AWESOME WORK JAG. asdfadfaf!

I love love love it -- especially the ear feathers!

I do agree that the legs need tweaking (especially the front ones, which can't seem to decide whether they want to be bird legs or paws). Also, I wonder if there's a way to pose the tail feathers so they're not behind the wings? Because they're the same color as the flight feathers I think you lose something there.

But overall I'd be pleased as punch if Duskfeather turned into this.

I like it but a few things need to be changed. For one the front legs. I know they are going for the whole griffin type animal but the colour is too light. I would suggest going with a similar colour to the body for the front legs and the feather It looks wrong somehow. This is my suggested change (please excuse it if it looks messy It was edited via paint )

I'm actually stunned seeing people not liking this. It looks perfect to me. The front legs definately do not need to be thinner, otherwise it wouldn't be in proportion with the body. The back legs look good, the tail feathers look super soft, and the earring is a nice splash of colour in what would otherwise be a bit monotonous colour. I love it!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I love it. Maybe to make the earring color slightly less random, add some green to the tips of the wing feathers and the tail? IDK that may look weird. But either way it's very well done!

Oh, oh, oh, I love it. It's a thousand times better than the original and 500x better than the first revamp we voted on. Yayy!

A few teeny nitpicks: I'd like to see the wings a lot bigger. Those don't look as though they could hold it up in the air. The anatomy of them is spot-on, just the scale doesn't look right to me.

The front legs: I like them, only perhaps the line where it goes from fur/feather to leg scales is a. set a little too high up the leg and b. a little too abrupt.

overall, that's a lovely lovely job. I'm glad I've hoarded some aerie elixirs. I'm fairly sure I'll change my Coricopat when this goes through.

That feather earring-thing needs to go. It takes away from the beauty and grace of the animal. Also, the bird-legs in the front dont look 'bird-like' enough, especially when compared to the cat-type legs in the back. Bad contrast.

I do like the addition of the spots towards the back, and the feather-like tail is also a plus. I think the redraw needs a bit more tweaking before actually getting released.

I've voted old for now. I just can't seem to like this as a whole, although the artwork is nice. The front legs and the green feathers put me off the most I think - it took me until someone mentioned "earring" to realise the green feathers weren't just stuck to the side of it's head. I do like the new colour scheme and markings though.
