After a long period of silence and general disinterest, the aeries have decided to try and rearrange their feathers a bit! What do you think?

As others have said, I like this one much better:

To make it look more realistic, I thinking adding in front talons would be fine.

I really do think they're too bulky. I'm no artist myself, but all I know is that this screamed 'fatty' to me when I first saw it. The art is wonderful, and all, it just seems to big to be an Aerie. Maybe another griffon would be fine like this, but it's just not the Aerie.

I do like the color change, though. ^-^

I like the wings, the tails look good to me and the lineart is fabulous, but I would advise sketching in a skeletal structure within those forelimbs and redesigning them. The way they are drawn now, it is hard to tell if that is a scaled mammalian forelimb with an extremely elongated forearm and barely any upper arm/elbow, or if it is supposed to be a raptor leg with an extremely elongated foot and barely any thigh and shin. He has completely lost his adorable innocent look, but I am guessing that is the new Subeta style and they want that left to Chibi pets. The only other problem I have with it is that it's brown. The Common aerie is mint green, which is nothing like the Field's mossy green, so there are no existing issues with telling the two apart (I have never had any trouble telling). The argument of keeping one color from looking like another is a bit moot anyway unless the Marsh aerie will be another shade of green instead of brown and green. There's no good reason to make everything brown; it forces people to go buy potions when they already liked their pet the color it was.

Oh thank GOD! I preferred the revamp to the old version, but (and no offense to the artist) I really was not fond of the sweet, kitten-like, anorexic look it had. Now THIS, I like! It's big, it's bold and it's so ...anhdsufhf I love it. But then I've always loved powerful looking birds of prey, so there you go.

I suppose the feather earring does look a bit off, but it doesn't bother me.

Not to be mean here but all these people who are contributing say the older one was better do you all even own aeries probably not. I think my pet wild feathers wold look awesome like this and Jag did a wonderful job on tis piece of art. I do really like the ear feathers it adds spunk it seems like a tribute to the old aerie the only thin that could be changed is the wing size

Although I'm silently wishing that the person who decided to change the aerie would get a boot to the head, I'll still add some constructive criticism.

I greatly dislike the feather earring thing. It just doesn't look good.

There is something about the way that the back legs are drawn that bothers me. It could be probably be fixed easily and I'm hoping that it will be.

The tail feathers don't feel like tail feathers to me. I think it's because of the way they curl. They look more like fur than feathers. Are they suppose to be fur?

I do like this one more than the current one, however, The revamp people are showing before this one, catches my interest. I like the playful look it has, and this one to me is kinda 'eh'. Maybe there should be a poll between this version, and the previous revamp version?

I think if you changed the tail color to match the body color it wouldn't draw the eye to the butt so much. As it is now the darker color is making the eye go in that direction and then it makes the black definition lines stand out more there by making you focus on the shape of the leg being off. Make the tail match the body color and people will notice the back leg less and it will save you a lot of time redrawing.

What the crap is this sudden trend of a vast majority bawling for a past revamp version, after tearing said version to shreds?

I never saw it before on Subeta, and I don't like it appearing. Or maybe I'm just slow on noticing things x:

Anyway, I personally ADORE this revamp- The Aerie always looked too similar to the Eyrie in the 2nd version. Now it's a nice gryphon again. ♥

Although it could still use improvements. The redline I personally most agree with is the one made by Typhoon_MuffintoolTip('userinfo_Typhoon_Muffin_1', '

I really love the revamp. I'm not gonna pick on much, but the tails now no longer look like feathers as they had before. They just look like tails, and if that were the point, I'd have to say I liked the idea of feathers better. The front legs that are talons I like, but there's something that I don't fancy... should it really be all the way up there, especially how stiff it is? It doesn't look if it has any joints in the legs there. The back legs I do not like... It looks more human like somehow, not like a animals' at all. It's rather freakish... Other than the things I pointed out, I love this design better than the first revamp.<3

In response to Phantom. For one, they're they only green on the pet. The stick out and seem very random. On the montre, they're attached to a cuff bracelet. Here, they're attached to what looks like an earring, but they could just be hanging there. Moreover, it raises the question of why they didn't just added a green feathery crest to a birdlike pet instead?

To me, it's like tacking on a fake tail to a monkey's neck.

Now with out wanting to be attacked majoly by everyone else i just gotta say

This one kinda looks like a plyaful kitten more than a Griffin. Which Im asumeing thats what this pet is supposed to be Not having been here all that long.

While i do agree that the revaped Aerie needs more work i must say its by far better that the current one or the above mention previous re vamp.

The Montre has feathers attached to it's tail, but it has feathers on it's wing. Why can't the Aerie?

To be honest, I don't really like this revamp. It's beautiful, but I feel that it lacks the sort of happy-go-lucky feel of the current (old) Aerie. The older revamp, by the way, was lovely. I think that for one, the ear feathers could be moved a little, since they seem a little out of place (but I do love the idea of them), and there could be a little more green in the coloring, possibly?

Honestly, I'm not that sure what to think of this revamp; there seems to be something off about it, and it just doesn't look as good as I wish it would.

Buh? The green feathers are just silly. It has plenty of feathers on it's own. Why does it need to tie some to it's ear? I also don't like the front legs. They look like regular feline legs, only colored in a way to pretend that they're bird legs. The hind leg also reminds me of an ape. I didn't like the boobies on the first one and the splayed legs were kinda awkward, but the tiny beak and head I thought were in keeping with the original design. The spots were nicer too. That doesn't mean I wanted one, I'm generally not a griffin fan, but there's more errors with the new one.

I adore, and absolutely ADORE this revamp. One, just ONE thing I strongly dislike about this one are the green feathers dangling down from one ear. I find them out of place, and it feels to me that it throws off the sheer power of the new Aeries.

Something else I just noticed - I'm surprised no one else commented on it. Perhaps you could remove the black lines behind the eyes? It just makes it look like the Aerie has eyelashes, giving it a female look that's hard to ignore. Removing the lines would make it more...either male or female. Right now it just gives the impression of female

Another revamp poll? I'm okay with this one. Though I would prefer it if it didn't have those green feather earrings and the Aerie was slimmer and not bulky. Adding more green would be nice too.

Oh.. And a little Extra Comment X I saw something about the other one looking like a bird of Prey. Who says gryphons have to look like a bird of prey? I personally adore the fact that the Aerie isn't so cookie cutter as to look like a bird of Prey. It was much more unique, Rather than looking like every other Gryphon-based pet out there.

Holy, so many looong comments.

NoirRaven: I do realize that (about the coding), but I don't recall ever saying that it was "manly" looking...? Other people have said that, but I just think it looks less "friendly"... I agree that it could be seen as either male or female.

Issai and Stagnant - I agree. This one feels less like an Aerie than the current one does to me, but it is difficult to explain why, at times.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Spider

Issai - Thank you! This is basically what I was thinking. The old revamp is liked more then this one by some, because it was closer to what we think the direction should go. We don't want the old art, per say, but the direction the old art had. So many of these new revamps have been way to chunky and just lack the lovable subeta feel to them. They lack this slight sense of 'Hey I'm a pet from Subeta and you can tell!' kind of attitude. The more cartoon based look was something I adored when I first joined this site years ago, and its the reason I came back. I'm not saying this one is bad. It would be pretty cool, but it just doesn't feel like an Aerie. It has a very... fluffy chubby feel to it. The thinner, more streamlined look is what I really adore.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I like it! BUT!!!! it does just look like it had sat on something! Like it is sitting on something! Squashing it! Or that something is growing out of its rear! Maybe add some lighter brown to the start of the tail where its coming out so it flows.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Issai
User Avatar

Now that someone's mentioned it I'm fixated on the wings. They are kinda small relative to the body size. But on the whole I still like this revamp.

As for the frequent mentions of old versions in these threads: I understand the frustration with voted-down versions being brought up again and again, and the inclination to say "well, next time vote for it the first time!" But I think what's being missed is that preference tends to be transitive. That is to say, if A is better than B and B is better than C, A is better than C. Meaning that it's possible for Version 1 to beat Version 2 but lose to Original.

I think that the support for previous redraws should be taken not as a statement that people want that one back, precisely as it was, but that it was more "on the right track" than the newer version is. Critiquing art is difficult; unless you know something about drawing yourself it's often a case of feeling something's wrong but not being able to tell what, or simply of "I know what I like" syndrome. Comparing to something you like better is the easiest way for a non-artist to communicate concrete information about preferences.

I actually don't mind this one. I like the previous one, but I understand it's no longer an option. This one could be improved, but it's a hell of a lot better then I could do - birds aren't my proffesion xD;; I agree that the eyes look a little dull, and the back leg deffinatly looks 'squished'. I don't really mind the front legs - it makes it look tougher, though maybe if you ever did redo the angelic version perhaps you could give it the normal front paws, just for those who prefer it? ;d

All in all, I love it <3

I have to agree with those who posted the other redraw Vangelis is one of them I like it much better, but if we had to go with this new design I think I would prefer to see a diffrent pose then sitting, it would allow for the tail to be shown off better. This way it just makes the tail seem out of place. But I do love the coloring. and over all artistry of it.

For some reason it seems a little clunky. The legs a little stiff looking and the back tail feather look a little disorderly. I love the wings style, although they could be a little bigger, and I do like the head quite a bit.

The eyes seem very off, and the front... right foot? is showing a little too much. FAR better than the original, but I still don't like it all that much. The head, wings, and tails are wonderful. The face and legs are just... off, somehow.

I think the front legs could have more fluff on them at the top. There's too much scaley stuff, as its the first thing i look at. The wings sorta blend in with the tail a bit, so maybe change the color maybe just a tad?
