I'm sure most of this has already been pointed out, but repeating never hurt anything

Overall, I like it. It still looks like the Hikei and I adore the cheeky expression it has now. However, there some issues that I really hope get looked into and tweaked.

The front hooves are angled very oddly and make it seem like the news/hooves are bending outward.
The back feet are far too small. Yeah, I know its supposed to be perspective, but its not working here for me. They also seem to be at a different angle then the front hooves, like the body should be angled but its not. I really love the paws though - very cute.
Like Luxe, I also like the smaller tails of the original. With so many thick strands on this one, they seem to start far down on the rear, which is very strange to me.

Other then that, I rather like this revamp. Its a nice update but I'd still like to see the problems worked on before its final release.

The current hikei is NOT a giant blob right now, it's adorable and sweet-looking. The redraw looks like a bowlegged mule. I don't know why all the pets are changing so much.

Some of them I do like, like the ruffie, but pretty much all the others are too drastically different in a very bad way. I don't understand this, you guys took the dragon from something sophisticated and realistic and turned it into some horrible cartoon-ish mess and now you're taking all the cute cartoon-ish pets and turning them into more realistic looking...messes.

Sorry, I don't want to sound mean, this is just how I feel about it. You don't have to redraw everything just for the sake of doing it. Those of us who've been on the site for years fell in love with some of these pets and now all of them are changing for no good reason as far as I can tell.

Hm, I sadly have to agree with the majority on this one. I've loved all of the recent pet re-draws... but I can't say this about the hikei. It looks very muscular and chunky, not elegant or cute. (the way, in my opinion, the hikei should look.) I prefer the old mane, as it reminded me of a zebra, and made the hikei more unique. I do however, love the colors used in the tail, and think the design is better, although it's still a little too thick for my liking.

Just to help a few people out, the hikei has never been a horse. Ever. It is equine in inspiration, but it's never meant to have the anatomy of a horse. If I had to guess, I would assume some cross between a mule and a pony, with lion-like hind quarters. It's not tall, it's not elegant, it's not even strong or powerful.

It's pudgy. Do you see the stomach on that one to the right? XD

Aww I don't get the comments about the expression. I agree the overall body structure is not the rounded cute and cuddly Hikei from previous but its face still looks so sweet! He looks bulky and clumsy and sweet. Like a big dumb dog. (In a good way)

As a long time hikei admirer, I do NOT like the new version.

I do not like the fact that the hikei's stripes have doubled or tripled. I really like the sparce stripes on the old version better
The mane is all wrong, I as I believe someone else pointed out it should not be spiky, possibly more like the galactic hikei's?
the back feet look strange and scrawny to me.
The front feet make it duck footed. duck-footed pony type animal = bad
while I appreciate the artist's attempt at attention to detail.. does the bone structure and musculature of the chest have to be so... angular?
the facial expression makes the hikei look like a doofus. maybe it's a mix between the spiky mane and the silly grin but yeah.. not good
I do like the new drawing of the hikei's orbs, that's nicely done.

Disappointing.

I was never truly appreciative of the old version but the redraw is very square looking, mostly due to shading I think. The pose definitely needs to be corrected because the forefront leg is ... dislocated I believe. Maybe its the pain it feels that makes its expression so...spooked looking. Please reform the position, shading and expression. She looks very splayed toed please align her legs to face forward in consistency with the bodily pose. Please bring the face as a more 3/4 view rather than a side view.. I feel scrutinized and I don't like what it's thinking about me.

I do agree this pet needs a bit of a remake, however this isn't it, IMO.

Everything looks great, except the front legs are splayed out a bit too much. The hooves should be facing forward like the back feet. =)

I would say this is a major improvement over the old hikei. It has much better anatomy and is in keeping with the new better quality of artwork found on Subeta.

With the exception of the front legs. Almost no large hooved animal has legs like that. The poor think would hardly be able to walk because it's legs are turned out so much. And the hooves are way to huge for the body, even a draft horse doesn't have hooves that big. A horse like that would be in constant pain from the stress on it's joints and have to be euthanized at an early age.

I voted for the old version because having legs like that on a horseish pet go through without major changes would just be wrong.

The art is okay, but this is -not- a Hikei to me. I want to cuddle the old one. This one makes me fear I'll get stomped on with those obnoxiously large hooves. O.O

But lack of squishy cuteness aside, there are several things I find odd with this. The front hooves are huge. The back foot seems too small. The stomach looks... off. His one front leg is positioned awkwardly. The shading is too grey. And overall, he's just too muscular. =/

The more that I look at it, the more odd the two back legs look. It almost looks like the connect where you see them at the bottem of the poor thing's tummy. xD

Hikeis for me have always been the cutest pets on subeta. This is not cute. The front legs look too big, the back legs look too small, and it looks to chunky and muscular. But the thing that I really don't like about it is the tail! A pet's tail should not be allowed to over shine the eyes. When I look at this, all I see is the big shiny tail and then I look at the eyes and they look dead.

I love it. Looks more like a real horse. I just noticed that it only had front hooves. The tail is fantastic

Something that I would like to see if possible is if the head was facing towards you.

So instead of the horses head being to its left maybe to its right?

O.o Its chest is caved in. That was my first reaction.

I really love the tail and the shape of the head, but like some other people, that's about all I really like.

It kind of looks like a grumpy Hikei on steroids. There is very little about it that is equine.. there should be some sort of at least a slight dip in its back.. horse-creatures don't have perfectly straight backs. And the hoof/leg deformities that everyone has been mentioning.. yikes.

I would really really like to suggest that the artist look at the Darkmatter and Galactic Hikei and take some inspiration from there.

Absolutely love it, save for the turned out hooves and the eye ring. I can also agree with the folks that like the neater, more paintbrush-like mane on the original and galactic rather than the rough spike look, but it is very well drawn as it is. And it kept the original colors!!!!!!! I wish I could literally give you a cookie for that, I feel like there needs to be some sort of positive reinforcement to keep Common pets the colors they already are!

Yay for a powerful looking pet. Although I always thought of a rather chubby if not lazy pet when I thought of the Hikei. This might be a personality change I would have no problem with but that could irritate a lot of people. (As said, I for myself like poweful looking pets. )

I love the tail and the mane. hose are my favorite parts of it. However everything else seems a bit..off.
The way the front legs are facing doesn't look natural. As if the ankles were broken to be turned that way or soemthing. And this might just be me, but the hooves don't fit the rest of the pet. To me, the shading doesn't fit with the other shading throughout the art, and they seem just a little bit too big.
Again, this might just be me, but the face looks a little too cutesy. As if it'd be on the Chibi version if the revampw ould go through and the Chibi Hikei would be redone.

Other than those small things. I really like it. Alot actually. I vote neww! [:

Hm. I hope it stays nice and blocky looking, like a draf horse.
I really love those kind, and I'd prolly change my nightmare legeica into one if it keeps this wonderful, eye-pleasing structure. xD
If not, can we PLEASE get some kind of draft-horse like pet? I'd like to have a horse that's not all skinny looking. :/

I like the overall body. Looks like a good hybrid of horselike and canine/feline creature. I think the hindfeet are too small. I agree to the comments about the spikey mane and the weird hooves. The face looks kinda piggy to me.

Ok, I looked at it for a bit and the thing I don't get is that the back part of the hikei is a bit to the right, the chest part of it and the left (our left) front leg is pointing towards us while all the other legs are pointing towards the right. Then the head is pointing towards the right.

I don't know if animals could do that -never seen one do it-, but it just seems off to me.

That and the front/back legs (front too beefy or the back are too small) are really the main issues with it to me.
(That and the mane/eyespot) xD

It also seems to have doubled or tripled in the number of stripes it has

I've noticed lots of comments about how the positioning of the hooves and whatnot are totally wierd, however what I REALLY dislike about this version of the hikei is how it seemed to go on a very successful Jenny Craig diet between modeling for the current and new versions. As a proud owner of a common hikei I can safely say I would abandon my hikei or change its species if this revamp was used. I extremely enjoyed the cute chubbyness that the current hikei has and dislike the muscularness of this version.

However as stated by others, I LOVE the tail of the new version.

Wow, those toed out front legs on a real horse/zebra would be a sign of lameness, or can result to the animal eventually becoming lame. :
I would prefer that the front legs were changed, every time I look at it I see a crippled animal and I'm not really liking it.

Anywho, other then that, I adore the redraw and would love to see the hikei with a new look very soon.

Awesome, I love the overall look.
I'm with MikiDaCrow on the front hooves, the right foot seems unnaturally twisted to the right. I think that adding clydesdale like fringes to the front feet would help with what looks like a missing pastern. :3
I'd also suggest moving the mouth down a tiny bit, it kinda looks like the Hikei is biting on its lower lip here, or slightly jutting out its jaw.
Otherwise, it looks great! Awesome job!

I don't own a Hikei, but I voted for old. The tail on this one is VERY nice, but that's about it. I think what throws me off the most is the chest/legs area. If it was less....muscular looking and the legs faced the same direction, it would look very nice. I also don't really care for the eye spot. The face itself is nice. I prefer the old mane. (Which is on the galactic, who looks very nice BTW.) I would say with a few tweakings, this will be a nice revamp. Good luck artist.

The hooves annoy me the most about this. X: Everyone else mentioned the other things that bugged me too, such as the front legs are at a weird angle, the back legs/hips should be over the stomach instead of behind it and etc. Buut... the hooves stand out to me the most atm.
I really love the orbs in this though. Like a lot.
And the Twilight color better still have the little glowing stars for orbs when you finally get a revamp version. If not then... oh well. I get one less pet to waste sp on. lul Win-win either way XD

sorry but I totally dislike the new one... and since I see that I'm not the only one I'm happy!

I love the tails of the new ones, no doubt about that. But the Mane is mush better on the old one... especially the galactic one. The shading is simply ugly on the new one too, make it look like a rock. Well basically if it was looking a bit more like the galactic one it would be better... but maybe a good mix between them with a bit more then the old one then the new one... Oh well I'm bad at giving idea for art...

Well, I'd like to give a little bit of a better comment.

I really, really LOVE it, and I might just get one when the revamp goes though.

The positions of all the feet look kind of weird though The front two are like, pointing out in different directions almost, and the back ones look too small and because of the way the front are pointing, almost pigeon-toed.

Also something about how the hoof connects to the leg looks a little odd to me.

But still, amazing job. And I for one, LOVE the spiky mane.

I don't like the new spiky mane. I also don't like how the the front feet he's got them spread out like he has duck feet but they are really hoofs. The top of his legs are awkward and his stomach suddenly gets flat.

I voted new because I definitely think its better than the original. But there are a few quirky things about it. Everyone else has pretty much covered it already, though. The mane, the direction of the right front leg...and I'd say you either need to beef up the back legs or tone down the front legs because it looks disproportionate.

The original had thick legs, too, so I get why this one is kind of beefy I just think the back legs look kind of puny in comparison.

I have just a few clean, concise, non-insulting pointers for the artist, if I may. Hopefully, you will find this under what is sure to be a sea of ambiguous comments.

I really, really prefer the much lighter base/shading on the original hikei. This one feels like it has a gray base, which throws me off a bit. I also think the stripes don't have to be quite so prominent. They seem to have doubled, which might also be contributing to me feeling like this hikei is so much darker than the original.
I love the new face, and appreciate the nods towards better anatomy, but I feel that some of it is a bit too angular. The hikei has always been on the soft/pudgy side, especially evident in the spectrum and reborn versions. The angles on this seem to have turned it somewhat into a draft horse. I do like it, I just don't know that it's appropriate for a hikei, necessarily. Perhaps another equine pet if Subeta has need for one.
The lineart is a bit overdone on the fur over the front hooves. This is likely personal preference, but I almost feel that what looked good in the original working size of the image might have lost a little something when resized to 200x200. It just feels cluttered to me. Perhaps imply the shagginess with coloring and shading instead? I also feel that the hind feet might be a little small or narrow as well.
COMPLETELY personal preference, but I do love the smaller orbs in the tail; and perhaps the thinner tails in general. I'd be thrilled to see those reduced, if only slightly.

The mane, face, eyes, and neck? Wonderful! And I am really impressed by this attempt as a whole.

This one's nice, but I think its a bit too different.
The hooves are way too wide, and the tails I think should be a bit thinner. I also like the old shape of the head, and the old mane and eye spot, like cooneh pointed out.

I like the revamp overall, but I could do without the ring around the eye, it makes his/her eyes seem dull, lackluster. The eyes of the galactic ones are great, if they could maybe be more like that one. The front feet I think need longer hair, like a clydesdale. He's got a cute little smile
