I really like the revamp except for a few things, and those thigns are really standing out to me.

The back paw looks really wonky. Maybe because the ankle is so defined, but I dunno. They also don't have markings on them like the front hooves do.

The tails are alot thicker - I liked the smaller, more elegant tentacle-like apendages.

The three balls look amazing though :3 I adore how the markings look.

The new eye-patch thing turns me off alot. The old Hikei's markings were the same - stripe-like. Why the sudden blotch?

Lastly are the hooves. It makes the pet look Duck-footed and really weird. It could also be that they stay the same shape until the hooves, inwhich it dramaticlly changes.

I can't explain it, but I absolutely love this revamp. I could picture this guy trotting up to me, y'know? It's also uniquely drawn.. I dont see ties to My little Pony, Disney, or Anime here. The Hikei is simply... The Hikei.
The old mane reminded me too much of disney's pegasus character, so i'm glad he got a bit of a haircut here.
And for those of you complaining about horse anatomy? Have you ever seen a horse with the hind legs of a predatory animal? No? Well i'll be. Maybe the Hikei ISN'T A HORSE then. I don't think there is anything wrong with the front legs. You ought to look at the anatomy of the old Hikei image before you go bashing the new one.
Anyways, I love it love it love it. The colours are amazingly complimentary, and the image isn't too bold or flashy. It's got sort of a daring elegance. Nice work.

hmm...well, the old certainly is outadated, but i would rather pick the old one over this one. It doeasnt look right at all...the body seems too short, and the front chest looks a little...musculer :| And I think the pose shouldve been a little more relaxed.

Wow, spectacular o.o I just think there is an anatomy error: the front legs are facing away from each other. If they were to point in the same direction as the hind legs, I think it would be perfect ^^

Does this just look too cartoon-y? To me, it doesn't really look like the subeta art. I guess it's not that bad (with respect to the cartoon-y-ness).

Anyway, I really love the head and back part. The front legs/chest/shoulders not so much. They are just too awkward, IMO. Very muscular (which I understand is what the probably should be), and as someone said, too angular. They just don't have the cuddly feeling I think they should have. The chest also does look shrunken in.

It's a beautiful piece of art, but I don't really think it resembles what think a Hikei should. I vote old.

I may not be able to draw, not even a stick figure, but I have a pretty good eye, and can judge where things don't look quite right. Same thing if you read a story, and can tell it would be better if characters had more developement. You don't have to be able to write a best seller to know that the characters were flat.
(Not that I'm saying that the Hikei is "flat" or anything like that)

I love the tail, but the rest of it seems... off, to me.
The face bugs me, and it doesn't look very horse-like. (Being the owner of a horse, I had to take a bunch of horse-anatomy class-things at our stable)

I dunno. It's okay XD Better than the old one.

@ tangleduptight, we're not being "outrageously picky". This is a pretty big revamp, and from what I've seen, the issues that are being brought up are a big deal. It's not like we're saying "oh, the claws on the back foot are too small" or "the ear isn't turned the right way". THOSE would be picky. The comments that are being made refer to major parts of the proposed hikei, and are quite legitimate.

hm... I got two hikeis.. a darkmatter one and a spektrum one. and when I first saw the revamp I thought wow, seems like time to get more of them BUT:
the front feet really bother me. O_o they look like sort of broken.. or.. sth like that. the color is .. strange, too, but I could get used to the darker touch of...grey.
but the legs are just horrible but I thik everybody knows that already.
so.. bigger paws would be great, same for no circle around the eye, the different mane, etc. but It s not THAT ... wrong. It s ok, its a revamp.
so if the feet would get a change, I d say yes.
but as it is now, I had to say please keep the old one though I prefer revamping all of the pets to get a unique new subeta style. and this would SO fit in. the overall style is great =)

Those that are commenting have legitimate comments and complaints. They know how to give constructive criticism. All the artists I've seen understand that and Welcome the critiqueing.

Those upset by the comments tend to have no taste for art. It's not the same pet. The species' name hasn't changed but it's whole image has. It's like telling devoted Scooby fans to sit and watch "What's new Scooby-doo." It's not happening if you grew up with the old school.

These artists were hired as professionals. They agreed to be accepting and open to all comments.

i agree with Hatori. i dont like how its all muscular now. i realize that Hikeis are like horses, and they should have some muscle. but i think you overdid it a little there. i reaaaaaaaally dont want to sound like im flaming the artist. im not. i do like the new orbies. they look extra shiny now

I just noticed, but why is the eye marking outlined? And different..? Generally I don't think outlining markings looks best.

It looks sorta awkward and to muscular. The hooves look big and clunky compared to the back paws. The face is really pretty and all and all its well drawn, but still :/

It seems like a combination of both the revamped and old Hikei. [:
WHich to me..is a good thing. The mane isn't as perfect, rectangular as it was before..but has more definition like it does now.

Plus the pudgy belly that Luxe seems to looooveee.

The new one is not cute at all, it doesn't have a "pony-like" feel to it, it's far too "square" and "blocky."

Just look how close the polls are, usually by now, the revamp is at 1100 or so, and the original is at 300.

I think someone needs to study up on horse anatomy.

I really like the tail, the front hoof looks very twisted and odd the coloring is nice. I'm not crazy about the pose, maybe just because it's neck looks strained. I like the mane better on the previous hikei. All this being said, I prefer the old over the new. Only thing I prefer on the new over the old is the tail.

To be honest, I like nothing about this revamp. I don't like anything. It's just way too far from what the old Hikei was, which may have been not as fancy/shaded, but it was sweet looking. The revamp looks goofy/mule-ish and out of proportion/top heavy. I was looking forward to the Hikei revamp because I thought it would just be a polish of the current Hikei. I hope this revamp doesn't pass through just because it's a revamp. =/

oh why do i come back to find this??? please don't do this revamp. i really love my Hikei the way he is!! (and i don't want to give him up!!) the body is all wrong. the tail looks too big and the mane too messy. the legs/feet/hooves look like they're positioned/shaped wrong. the chest area REALLY bothers me, it's kind of grotesque looking. and the face is no longer the cute Hikei face.

god i've dreaded my other pets getting revamps like this ever since i lost my Dragon.

Hm. not too big on this? o: The muscles seem much to angular and the cheek is off. the angle of the left hoof looks off as well, and the hind foot looks to skinny.

The shading also doesn't seem quite up to par...? Not as detailed as I would hope.

For now I'm going to vote old, though this is an improvement. (Just not what I'd be looking for)

There are some very original things about this. I personally think this is awesome, though I'm not familiar with the old version admittedly so I'll have to think before I vote.

I must say, however, that this is drawn in such an incredibly cute way! Well done artist, whoever you are!!

I don't see the reason why people don't like the mane.
Luxe said it's not suppose to be horse like. When a horses mane is cut short, it would be more stiff like, and look like it was before.
Now, it's not stiff, it has some flow; more definition. To me, before it was jsut a rectangular block, whith a few chips ini it, ontop of the hikeis head and neck. :/
If we're going to base the mane off another Hikei color, I say base the main more off the Spectrum/Darkmatter Hikei. It's not perfect, and little more flow-y.

Went from 'squish' to 'buff' and there's something about front hooves that I can't place finger on but I don't like.

Shadowgem, I wasn't meaning to contradict anything you said about the hikei. I just saw a lot of comments likening a hikei to a horse, when there are several other equines that probably more closely resemble a hikei. Relating it to a horse likely cripples peoples' perception of the poor critter.

I apologize if I seem rude... But... I just can't see this revamp fitting in with the pets we have currently. The art is a major step up, yes, and individually I love the tails and right hind leg, but the front legs completely turn me off to this revamp. I agree with kuro_ryu; the way the hooves are turned would make it completely lame, as in unable to walk. Even I can't turn my feet like that. xD
I could get used to the super defined muscles on the foreleg, I suppose, but the hooves sort of look like... Upturned plastic bowls with a chip out the side, rather than looking like hooves or even the cute stubby ends of legs on the old Hikei. If they were made less... Biggish, a bit less shiny (hooves do not sparkle like diamonds! ), and if they slanted into the leg a weeny bit more, I could see myself loving this revamp. Er, well, moreso.

the first thing wrong is: the front legs are pigeon toed. Next thing i'd fix is the face looks a little blunt, i suppose that's the word i'd use.
I love most everything else about it though.
just fix the legs -- that's most important!!
i like the colors, shades and new tail balls.

Oh my. I don't want to hurt the artist's feelings with criticism but this is the first revamp that I've really disliked. Most of the revamps update and improve... this one changes way too much from the original... and I can't seem to bring myself to like it. Please don't let this revamp go through.

Um, the only thing that is REALLY bothering me is the feet/hooves. Either the hooves are to big, or the back feet are too small.
Other than that, I love this revamp. C:

This is a random picture I found of horses standing in much the same position. Notice how there is a straight curved line from the knee to what would be the ankle on a human and then a slight curve from the pastern to the hoof. Hooves curve outward, they do not balloon outward they definitely don't stick further out then the horses' shoulder.

In case you were basing it more off a zebra here's a picture of how they also do not have legs like that.
For a draft horse they do indeed have large hooves but nowhere near as big as that and their leg most diffidently do not curve out. See pic here

I like this a lot better than the old one. It's all updated and three-dimensional and detailed and much more like an actual living creature. And it's beautifully done.

That said, I agree that the front hooves aren't quite right. They're a little too turned-out and way too flat. And perhaps it's just me, but I think the hind paws might look better if they were a shade bigger.

Cries Please.. Please don't update the Hikei.. Not to this.
I'm sorry, but the feet look ALL wrong. It looks like it would walk like a duck.. -.-
The face on the new one is NICE. Not wonderful, but nice. I like the new eyes, at least...
But that hair. Oh God that hair.. Why not keep it like a mohawk like the origional? The spikes just look to... off.
It also looks WAY too top heavy with all those muscles in the chest and front legs.. the back end doesn't look like it could do much of anything.. Maybe lessen the muscles in the front? Or add more to the back? The back leg looks WAY too weak.
I do like the neck definitions though - makes it look more 'realistic' than bubbly, childish cartoon.. The larger tail also looks better..

BUT please. PLEASE make changes to the legs/chest/hair before perminatly changing it. whimpers

I like the new one but I just like the old one better. I don't know exactly why but the old one is just more relaxed to me. The new one looks like it's thinking not so nice thoughts to me.

No As a Hikei owner, I want to put in my 2 cents:

I like the direction the art is going, but I don't like where it is. I like the mane on the current Hikei much better.

The only thing I really like about the new one is the face and the tail. The eye and the stripes are nice. However, the legs are all wrong.

The hooves should not be so forward, and it looks like it's missing its chest. The back feet are much too small and don't look like they would support much of anything.

I'd say, look at the hooves and legs of the Darkmatter color, they seem to fit the pet more. Also, the ruggedness or roughness of the fur... doesn't quite match the other colors. The Hikei has been smooth, like a well groomed horse. Just my thoughts

I've liked all the other redraws so far... this one is a disappointment. But I do know that you guys will make changes so I won't get upset over it

I do see the stomach on the one to the right. What I don't see is the cute little pudgy stomach on the revamp. Instead, I see tremendously muscled forequarters that almost obliterate the neck and make the poor thing look like its head is attached to its shoulders. ;P

I don't like it. Even the shading looks boxy and angular on it. If we look at the side, that stripe of dark shading makes i looks like there are two.... shelves on it, like a set of stairs going up the sides.
The back legs don't look quite proper, and neither do the front. The hind legs look like they're attached to some other creature entirely and are pointing the wrong way. A 3/4 view would have the front and back legs pointing the same way, when standing like that. The front legs look overly muscular and make the chest unfortunately look like its hindquarters with the lack of chest. And the muscle structure on the both are too different in comparison to the other.. and he split in the cloven hooves is too wide.
The face, despite having smaller eyes, makes this one look immature, like a pony one would expect on a little girl's wallpaper... I think it might be the fact that the muzzle is much too small.
I DO like the orbs, tail, and added stripes, but the eyestripes! bring them back, please? I like how it looked like a pair of wings on the eyes without making it too feminine.

Eep, the poor thing is painfully splay-footed. The hooves are angled much too far outward; they also look more like they belong on a camel than an equine (I'm all for the cloven hoof as a not-quite-horse touch, but these are far too broad and saucer-like for hooves). The left foreleg is also angled too far to the outside, and the hind leg somehow looks too small and dainty to support a horse's weight, especially compared to the huge hooves. The eye also looks a bit sunken, probably due to the two bold black lines connecting it to the nose and cheek. The whole pet looks oddly angular as well, mostly in the shading and very sharp stripes; it gives the whole pet a harsh appearance as opposed to the soft, pudgy pony look of the original.

Also, the orbs in the tail here look a little too big. They might be less distracting if they were a bit smaller. And I tend to prefer the stiff zebra-like mane in the Galactic version over this spiky one - in fact, it would make more sense to base the whole revamp on the Galactic Hikei's style, since it better captures the look of the pet and keeps the qualities of the older colors, but is still new and up-to-date. It'd save the time and effort of revamping all the special colors that match the Galactic already.
