Umm... I'm afraid I don't really like this one at all. Well... the only good points are the tail and the shiny hooves. Is it just me, or does the revamp Hikei look a little... blocky? Perhaps it's the way it's shaded or how the stripes look, but it's making it appear sorta polygonal.
Also, the way it's standing makes the poor creature look rather uncomfortable, almost as if the three parts of its body (the back, chest, and neck) are moving in three different directions. =/
Also, the hair needs to be a little longer, and perhaps more smooth than spiky, but that's my personal preference.
Oh, and I figured out why the eye was bothering me. There's a spot on the eye that wasn't there on the original. Although spots over the eyes works on a dog-like pet, it doesn't do a zebra-like pet justice, since they have stripes and not spots.
I hope this helps if you wish to tweak it! ![]()
Yeah, the old version is SO much cuter. The face too adorable to be changed to.. well, ugly. And the feet are kinda creepy. I liked the My Little Pony-ish feet of the original.. Its the cuteness of the Hikei that makes me like it.. and I'm going to have to change mine into something a little more fitting for the name if it does get revamped. </333 Muscle tone and freaky feet just don't suit the breed... OR my MissGalinda.
The stripes and the tail on the new one are nice though, if that's any consolation.
im not keen on the angle of the left hoof and it being so split
other than that i think its an improvement
Love it!!!
Well, I'll say it again.
I really like the revamp, I think it looks fantastic.
They positioning/size of all the feet needs a little work, I think everyone has pointed that out now though.
And yes, it could be a little less clunky and square looking. I personally like it to be big and massive, but apparently a lot of people don't. So mabey it could be toned down a little to please those people who already own said pet. I really hope that the hair and the face stay the same though, they are really cute as they are.
Awww please don't change it
It really has a wonderful tail but the rest isn't as cute as the old version. would be great if you could keep the cuteness. I don't want my honey to look like that!
My Cinnaron is my favorite pet and I'm scared he will change his "oh, there is a butterflie" look-like xD
It's hard to express myself in englisch...
It seems like they forgot it's more like a horse than a tiger.
I think the face needs to be a little more long and the front legs not so far apart.
It's kinda freky, both of them were...
I prefer the cute baby-look of the older version. Chubby with less stripes. I don't mind the more comic-book like look of it ![]()
Dear Artist,
While there is no denying the infinate improvement in art for this Hikei revamp, unfortunatly it just isn't quite right yet.
Don't get me wrong, the tail and orbs are AMAZING - don't change a thing about them, they are all they should be.
However the body of the Hikei looks very angular, except for the head. I'm sure others on here can tell you why it looks this way, I'm not that good with technical things.
Also, on the old Hikei the eye spot is really more like one of the stripes, and I really like this. If you still like the eye spot more, perhaps taking away its line would make it look better? At the moment I'm looking more at the colour around the eye than the eye itself - perhaps make it bigger too?
Good luck, I'm sorry that you have worked so hard and now have more work in front of you.
The art is undoubtably better, but I don't like this revamp as it stands.
I think the thing that bothers me most are the position of the front legs. They look like they're too spread out, and I don't like the way the hoof joins the leg, it kind of looks like a foot that has hoof shoes on, if that makes any sense XD; Also, it seems a little blocky and angular, if you could soften it up a little that would be amazing since the original Hikei seems to be rounder and squishier. I think a smoother mane would also be a lot nicer.
I do like the tail though, and the orbs are very pretty. I hope that was helpful =)
It's all pointyyyy~ :CCC
@ tefnut, artists always read through the comments and take suggestions into account. Even if a revamp were to have, like, a thousand more votes, comments would still be taken into account. After all, a Do You Like [Y/N] really doesn't give a good view to who actually really likes all of the proposed revamp.
So...no. There is no automatic change.
The only thing I really like about this one is the tail.. Sort of.
As I proud hikei owner I definitely have to put in my 2 cents. Overall, I guess we were due for a change. Love the more prominant tail orbs and appendages! The head and mane have a sweet, good-natured aura which is very attractive. However, as we go below the neckline things do take a slight turn for the worse. The body is oddly put together with the large, "workhorse" front legs and hooves (which tend to strike me as too clumsy and splayed - what my grandma used to call "ten to two feet"). This overly heavy and angular front end then draws back to a more svelte hind end that perhaps needs a little more musculature or hip definition to balance out with the prominant front end. And pretty please with icing, could you tidy up, or shrink those big, blue, bovine cloven hooves, which detract from the more delicate upper torso and hind end. With a little tweaking on the front/hind flow, our beautiful hikei will look far more refined and less like poor old Shrek's tubby sidekick the Donkey ![]()
Ugh, this one just frustrated me. Sure, the art is nice, but it's not true to the Hikei and it's breaking some basic artist guidelines.
a. Why are pets now coming out like mugshots? Nix the profile shots, pretty please? Andi made that rule when she was an AD for a reason. It looks kind of ridiculous. I want dimension to my pony-zebra-feline's face.
b. The original is stocky. This one's pretty slender and more equine than anything. The angles, though, aren't fitting for the Hikei... It should be more rounded, chubbier.
c. Hair. The hair is just noooot lovely. I prefer the broom-bristle mane opposed to the choppy mowhawk this guy has going on.
d. Horses are NOT bowlegged. It's physically impossible for a horses feet to be turned out like that, without some sort of joint being broken. It looks goofy.
e. LARGER PAWS, please?! For the love of big cat feet, a Hikei isn't a Hikei without the ginormo-pouncy-paws.
e1. Is it just me or is the shading really dull compared to what other pets have been released recently?

wow this one is a really hard decision for me there is so much from each one that i like and dont like.....
I make this poll with a heavy heart knowing that although both are quite great I still think the new one needs just a bit more revamp. Hated to say work because they already worked so hard on this new one I hate to sound like I am putting it down in any way.
I'm curious; if the new version gets more votes, does it automatically become set in stone as the new image, or can it still be fixed?
I don't like it at all. The face and mane and body and positioning don't look great, the only thing I like is the tail and its orbs. This might be ok for a different pet but I would be very upset if it becomes the new hikei. The hikei is cute but this is odd, it looks like it has, um, problems...
The front hooves look too big a clunky, kinda like its wearing shoes, but other than that, much better than the old one ^^
Since I have a hikei, I think I'm entitled to say something here...
Assuming the hikei is a zebra/horse thing, its front legs (feet especially) are very inaccurate. I know 'subeta pets aren't real animals,' but horses don't have heels set flat on the ground like that, and they can't bend their feet out so far. They don't have the double-pulley ankles that other ungulates do, and the hoof is just a toe(s), not the whole foot.
The paws in the back look pretty off, too. Where are its knees? I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, I think it could use a WHOLE lot of work. ):
I... don't really like how the front legs are so buff. n-n' And maybe the mane could be smoothed a little, and maybe the legs could be moved a little closer together, and pointed both in one direction...
But otherwise, I do like it--I'm just concerned for Alias Cross. Are the Chibis going to get revamped? As far as I know, they haven't been revamped at all, but meh...
I think the pose should be changed completely.
I usually don't try to critique revamps but this is the first one in a while I've really disliked. First, the two front legs seem to be bowed and turn impossibly away from one another. I'd rather the hikei's right hoof be completely flipped to face in the same direction of the other. The second major problem is the chest area. Instead of attaching two legs to either side of a torso, it seems like the legs are attached very close together. They also seem to be quite muscular. Similarly, the back legs appear to point in slightly different directions, but it is less noticeable and probably because of the hikei's unusual angle (which appears to be not quite 3/4). The face is a bit stubby and would look more equine if it were pointed down some more, but it's a much more minor problem.
While I love the hikei revamp, there are some major things to pick at. To me it looks as if the chest has been engulfed by its forelegs. Maybe make it a little more pronounced?
Also, the foreleg nearest to the viewer is twisted pretty badly- it looks painful
Especially with the lack of a fetlock. A horse's hoof, or a goats or a deers, is the nail of two or one toe. They walk on their tippy toes, so you should raise its ankle upwards. Think tippy-toes, with an ankle up above. Use pictures of a horse's leg as reference, and pay special attention to lower leg anatomy. But still pay close attention to upper leg anatomy as well.
I have no qualms over muscle- I love muscle and I love a thick, powerful beast.
I really do like the revamp idea, and whatnot, but there's a lot of anatomical flaws with the legs that need to be fixed.
I can't be bothered to read all the comments like I did with the Ruffie (GO RAH!) But I can say that the back legs are smaller than the front in width, maybe it's the angel and it's supposed to look like that? I'm no artist, but I do know that if this animal is meant to jump the back legs should be buffer (Is that the correct term?) than the front, which are only used to land.
Then again, I'm still thinking of it as a horse.
The orbs on the tail are beautiful. Great job!
I love the ittle fellow, but I must agree with some of the complaints.
His back feet are rather small, the head is positioned funny, and he's rather .... 'muscular'.
The revamp seems kinda bony, but the old one reminds me of My Little Pony. Hey, it rhymed! xD
I very much prefer the new one's stripes and hind legs, however, I agree that the front half is a little too buff. The angles are kinda... distracting I guess would be the word, and the hooves look kinda big and goofy. I LOVE the face, but I agree the mane should be a little softer and the eye markings should be more similar to the original.
Also... I think I prefer the thinner tails of the original.
Woah when did Subeta's little pony get so buff? My Hieki was a boy before the lab ray and I don't like them so buff. Please keep her(him) cute!
i was just looking in the forum, and i realized if the front legs/chest looked more like the legs/chest that come from "Centaur Shoes" i think i would like it better!
also to those saying we're not allowed to complain, first off as a photographer i know that i would rather have someone HONESTLY critique my art as opposed to just sucking up to me and kissing my backside. second, we're allowed be so vocal when it's OUR PET. i HATE when i see people who don't even have the current revamp pet as one of their own thinking they have more say then anyone else, or telling me to be quiet. how does this affect you?? the Hikei was the second pet i ever made on this site and thus it is VERY sentimental to me. to see a revamp THIS drastic happens to affect me and bother me a great deal. and i'm sorry if my feelings upset the artist, but i have not said they're horrible or that they can't draw, just merely that i dislike THIS product.
This is just my opinion!!!!!!!!
I agree with the lose of the cutesy toon look. Make it a bit plumper, less definition on muscle and bone. Fix the front left hoof as well as make them a bit smaller, they seem to stick out like, well, feet.
Git rid of the circle around the eye, there should be something around the eye, but just not that big gloompy circle. The back feet need to be a larger/wider. And lastly, please get rid of the spikes, give it a bit more hair.
Like I said, just my opinion ![]()
I like it, but the neck is a bit too muscular on the front side and quite fat at the back..
And I think the paws and hoofs are a bit weird, the paws look so fragile now. (But I didn't like the paws of the old Hikei either). And the hoofs are in this v-position, the left one (if you look at it, not for the Hikei itself) should be rotated somewhat.
On the art side of things, despite a few minor anatomical errors, it's undeniably beautiful- the artist ought to be proud.
Though, for me it just doesn't look right. The Hikei is based on the cute bouncy looking Zebra, but this looks... rather donkey-ish. It's too drastic a change, it looks like a completely different pet.
Overall, with a bit of tweaking it could be nice as a new pet altogether, but in all honesty, providing the mane is changed to resemble the old one a little more, I can live with it.
I agree with Thyolas. The front hooves seem very odd compared to the rest of the body, and this new version looks so angular, it's almost pointy. Interesting enough, however, I never noticed the hind feet were paws until now!
The body seems too blocky and the mane on the new one seems a bit too spiky.
oh, and to quote Ayakat
"Also, I am not loving the smaller eyes on all the pets. This is a pet site, a MADE up pet site, so screw realism, I want big eyes!"
Lmao. Well said, and I think a lot of us would agree.
the old one is cute, the new one is...dunno..i would change the hair back and readjust the front hooves, they look bow-legged or something..
After sitting here for a while and studying the new picture, I think I can see why I cringed to begin with. The shading is too intense and makes some areas look a bit more angular than they should (stomach comes to mind). The concave of the chest bothers me. The mane feels off as does the front feet. I'm not fond of the angle that the face is on either. The tail does look nice but apart from that, I have to say that I voted for old.
I've liked a lot of the recent revamps but no, not this one. Kudos to the artist for trying.
Well, i do hope the angelic hikei does NOT get a revamp, since i have not paid a leg and an arm plus some other body parts for an angelic potion and have it revamped when it does NOT need no revamping!!
And of course, suggestions will be taken into consideration, within reason.
So if you have a suggestion towards the improvement of this revamp, please feel free to offer it.
Demands and insults will be disregarded, and are discouraged. Being calm and clear is the best way to allow us to adjust things to your liking. ![]()
The head, including the mane, is excellent. So are the tails. The body, however, looks very blocky -- the way it's shaded makes the hikei look like an octagon around the "waist" there, and the chest is just too square. I think the muscled look works for a horse/big cat hybrid, but they need to be more rounded.
I had to vote for the old one, because the oddly-shaped body was just too distracting the second I looked at the pet. If that was changed, I'd love the new version.
I completely agree with Sukaihan. It's a nice drawing, but not exactly an update of the old one; I like the old eye marking better, and the mane, and the legs aren't right; the hind legs should look more like they are in line with the front, and the front legs shouldn't be so stocky. If it were more like the original and "softer" on the musculature and mane, I'd be okay with it. ![]()
I think the divide between opinions on this poll is incredibly interesting. adjusts glasses
Just a friendly reminder, however, that instructing us "not to touch" a pet, even moreso when said pet is obviously up for revamp, is only setting oneself up for disappointment.
zen teasip
I do like it, but I don't prefer it over the old one... it's muscular now. It doesn't have the same small, roundess as the old one. x[ Also the chest/front legs are quite out of proportion.
If it were less muscular and its mane wasn't all spiked then it would be perfect in my eyes.
Maybe make the mane more flowy like it used to be.
Any way. This is very nice indeed.
This may be the worst attempt at a redraw I have seen in ages. It seems as though the artist really tried to divorce this new version from the old by making the pose face right and make really big changes but they make the new Hikei look awkward and kinda dorky. Like an animal that MIGHT be graceful if it manages to survive it's awkward youth.
The hooves need to face forwards like any hooved animal's would and the back paws look too small to support the weight of the Hikei's body. Since a four legged animal balances it's weight evenly, the smaller paws would lead to back strain.
Also, I am not loving the smaller eyes on all the pets. This is a pet site, a MADE up pet site, so screw realism, I want big eyes!

Normally I post my concern and lurk but your comment has really interested me.
First of all I am an artist for a living, and am currently in college to better my art. An artist can not get better if they are not told what is wrong with the art. I know I have, on quite a few occassion, been so caught up in my work that I miss some big flaws that should have been addressed. When you are told what is wrong with your work it lets you step back and go " oh yea..." . And yes, sometimes when I am critqued i feel horrible afterwards but a true artist isn't going to let that get in their way. As as artist I think it is our resposiblity to listen to fans and take critism as a way to better yourself and art. Now I personally don't agree with people who are like "omg this art sucks!" but those who bring up valid points and do so politely, like most people here do, it is these people that will help an artist grow. That's all i have to say going back to llurkking
I have not read all the comments, so I don't know if I am the majority or not, but I think The art on this is excellent, but I do not like it at all, it's not the art though.
I think my problem with the revamps of pets lately is that they are taking the cute out of the pets. They are starting to look more hard and manly rather than sweet and cartoon like. I know that may just be my preference.
The lines and shading on the revamps are all so dramatic and right there in your face so to speak. I like the smooth look some of the older pets have regardless of the fact the art is dated.
Maybe it's just the style that the revamp artists draw in that I am not a fan of, but honestly if I had any of the recent revamps, I would abandon my pet.
Again, I think the art is nice, it's just a style preference.
Purely a personal critique, but hopefully you'll find something helpful. I voted for the old version because I feel this one needs a bit more work before being released.

The hooves, front legs and jaw all seem kind of unnatural. The hooves could be ok, the fur might just need to be cleaned up a bit. The right front leg seems to be angled wrong, or just too far to the right. Perhaps it's missing a knee? And the jaw/cheek seems a little too puffy, however if you made the eye a little bigger or changed the shading that might resolve its self.
Speaking of, the shading sort of makes the fur seem dull. I just prefer the clean bright colours of the old version. The light source seems a little off too. I don't think there should be shade on the side/belly near the back leg.
The back half of the body, the markings, and the balls all look great. And I'm sure hours have been spent on it... I just feel like it still needs a little more time under the ol' tablet pen
