Yeah, I was thinking that the new one looks more like a dog than a horse I think it's the stance, and something about the face. Cute, but just not horsey enough

I like the old version of the hikei. To me, it's always looked kind of like a "my little (possibly carnivorous) pony". This one... is not shaped like a pony. Which is disappointing.

This is the first time I've ever commented on a revamp, but I just had to. Not that I'm in love with the old hikei, but I always thought of it as a horse. This one is built like my doberman with hooves. I'm not an artist or even pretending to know what I'm talking about so I can't make critiques, but I just think it should look more horseyish. The stripes are way better though!

It's a bit... chunky. Like, blocky, the edges are too pointed on the chest and the front feet look... odd.
But otherwise, it's good I like the face and back feet.

Ehh...I don't really like this one. It seems blocky, and the mane is spiky unlike the old one. I like the old one more. However, I really like the tail. The orbs are shiny! XD

I think it was VERY much in time for the Hikei to get a revamp, but this isn't quite it... the hind paws should be somewhat bigger; the hooves are turned to the outside, which looks just weird. oOx And I don't particularly like the head. ^^;;
I really DO believe you're going in the right direction with this, but it's far from perfect, imho.

I don't agree with sleepingrose on the hoof thing. To me, it appears it simply had fur behind the cannonbone. I think it's adorable.

Anyway, for my critique:

The front hooves look a bit odd with the posing, but how they're drawn is great.
The facial expression is a bit odd.. I prefered the gentle expression of the old Hikei.. But that's probably just me
It looks a bit emaciated
The mane looks a bit odd (for lack of a better word).

I'm not a Hikei owner and probably never will be (I'm a catperson xD I've never really liked horses) but I had to get that off my chest.

Oohh.. many people trying to re-draw the Hikei. Personally, I don't really like the old one and the new one but i think the new Hikei looks slightly better.

If they change the Darkmatter Hikei, I'm going to be extremely annoyed, by the way, considering the Darkmatter Hikei is the best drawn Hikei out of all of them, and this one can take a few pointers from it.

Woah so we just got told that the new Ruffie WON'T be blue because common pets can't be blue and now cha-ching, the new Hikei IS blue because.. because it is. Someone can't make up their mind or is it hypocrisy?

As for the revamp, it sort of looks like it has a butt on the front. You know, the front legs. Kinda give it a frontal butt. Also the hair looks like it's made of stone. I do like the tail and that's about it.

I hate to be harsh, especially as I know horses (and horse-like) are notoriously difficult to draw.

However, this new hikei looks like an old nag with poor conformation. I think the body length is off, and its left fore (to our right) looks like a bone's broken somewhere - should that joint above the hoof bend up so much?
The hind leg needs a little tweaking, as others have illustrated.

I like where you're going with the muscliness, but it's a bit too angular, and doesn't seem to fit with the cutsey-cutsey head (incidentally, I'm not keen on the patch around its eye, but that's just me).

The mane looks like it would put someone's eye out.
And yes, the base colour looks a bit grey.

On the up side, I love the extra-glowy tail orbs, I would love to see them on my Hikei.
And a thumbs up for the hind paws, Iprefer them to the old

hm, for once i'm going to have to say that i like the original better than the revamp. Personally i think the head to me looks a little funny. Where the body is on a 45 degree angle, the head is directly on the side. I think if the head were to look more toward the front it would look a lot better. That and i would prefer the more zebra look of a clean-cut mane instead of a spiky one. I also agree with NyauNyau's redlining. Really, if you fix the body and the head then i'd prefer it to the older one. To finish off i'll talk about what i like. The tail and the orbs are so much prettier and shinier and i like how muscular it's body is.
Just realised, also, it'd be super cool if like... the head appreared as muscular as the body. I think that's the main issue of why the head looks off to me. It either has to be either muscular or cute. But kudos on your effort and hope i wasn't too picky n_n;

They each have their good and bad points to me.
The orbs on the tail
The light blue
The front feets position
The angular body

Just to put it in simple terms.

This is the first time I have voted for the old one

I just liked the brighter white, and the smaller beads on the tail made it look more elegant to me, or cute.. cant tell. I think the new one is way less "cute" I think the art, the entire image, is beautiful dont get me wrong but I dont think it makes for a good redraw of the species. (And I dont even like hikeis !!) I think the back feet need to be bigger aswell

The only thing I don't like is the position of the right front leg, it seems a bit off that it's pointing in the direction it is, as if it should be turned slightly to its left. It's a minor thing though, and I think it's very very cute overall. :3 I love the head.

I like it. The only problem is the front two hooves, they look a bit... splayed... to me. It'd look better with the hooves facing the same way as the body. Other than that it looks great.

Voted for the old one... I'm sorry but I really don't like it. Kinda disappointing after all the brilliant redraws we've had lately.

The shading is bad, the legs are very odd.. especially the visible back leg. The blue looks tacky with the severe shading and it could just look so much better

Give him better shading and redo the legs and I reckon that'll push it over the line enough.

I like the new head, it retains the cuteness of the old Hikei but makes it more 3-D and less like a caricature. The ears are super! I think I would personally prefer a smoother mane with fewer "frizzy" spikes.

There is something extremely angular about the body, it almost reminds me of a skinny bear. I also really agree on the very splay legged front legs, the hooves are too sunken...

Please for heavens sake don't change the Hydrus Hikei! (begs)

Oh, yeah...I forgot to say that I really like the tail. I never really noticed it had the baubles there before, but when the picture of the old one came up on the poll, I said to myself, "I guess it did..."

i'll vote for the new version, cause the old one's head was really somehow strange ^^

but there are a few things which are (in my opinion) not right at all now.
first of all i would like to say, that it looks maybe a bit too beefy. perhaps the outlines which show he muscles are a bit to hard? i don't really now.
then there are the hooves. i think they should be directed more parallel to the head (i hope you know what i mean, that's really hard to describe for a german girl xD)

and i just thought.... wouldn't it be possible to draw a female version, too? because i think the short and spiky mane looks much too male and especially with this hard muscles a female hikei would have a very strange appearance.

what i really love about the revamp is the tail i looks amazing^^ and i also like the paws, the ears and the mouth. very well done and cute!

I agree with NyauNyau. That's exactly what I think needs improving. The front two paws have been bugging me a bit.

The mane... ehhh. I'm not exactly sure how much I like how spikey it is, but it is bearable.
I am loving the tail orbs so much. It's a wonderful touch and looks absolutely gorgeous.

S4rs has done an amazing job in his sketch, I must admit.

Great job to the artist that did this redraw of the Hikei.

After the Ruffie revamp, all you artists probably thought I had a stick shoved somewhere uncomfortable; however, I have to say that I like this revamp.

There is only one slight change that I would make. The shading seems a little severe. The location that I notice it the most is on the side of the body; it almost looks like there's a corner on the side. I think it is mostly because the stripes seem to angle just the slightest bit at that one spot where the shadow kicks in.

Wonderful job on the orbs! They look wonderful.
I do think this version needs some touch ups, and I think Luxe's pointers would help improve the pet.

Sorry but I'm going to have to say that this isn't one of my favourite revamps. The more pronounced glow on the Orbs is nice though.~

A couple of thoughts...

First, the mane - of course, is spikey on the new version, where as on the old version, it seemed softer, which many people may not like the change..

Something else that may be throwing people off is the single circular (round) marking on the eye, which is set off in contrast by all the "stripey" markings through the rest of the body - I feel that if the original "stripey" eye marking were kept, it wouldn't be so akward.

The last thing is the most important.. the creature itself seems quite "Splay Footed".. that is, it's feet are turned outward from each other too much.. kinda' like Pigeon Toed, only the opposite - it makes it look... thinks Distorted.. But.. If that wasn't the problem -

The foot on the left of the picture is the same height (on the ground) as the foot on the right of it.. which .. perspective wise, makes it look like it's "flat on the ground", rather than on an angle.. the back legs are on a perfect angle for the rest of the body - giving it perspective.. but the frong legs lack this prespective, making it.. almost Picasso-ish.

The quality overall has increased greatly - and it's quite cute.. and I love the shading.. but I think the weirdness of teh round marking on the face, along with the distorted perspective of the legs - and the "twisted-ness" of the legs... The image could do much better.

I commend the artist who did this for giving it a good try, but the anatomy is a little off in this revamp. If the revamp DOES get choosen I do hope that the staff goes back and fixes a few things; with the legs and hooves being their top priority.

I voted for the revamp, but there's a couple things that bug me. One of them is that spiky mane- I like the trimmed look of the current hikei. Another is the back leg. I think it wouldn't look top heavy if it was pulled out a bit and the foot lengthened (or the front hooves made smaller). And what happened to the original eye marking?

I love the way the front legs are pointing outward btw But the hooves seem funky, like its left (our right) seems really flat-footish (as I saw some people put it, like "fur suit"). Last is the shading. I don't fully understand where the light source is coming from.

But otherwise I really like this overall upgrade and I'm looking forward to seeing my hikei get that makeover Best of luck to the artist.

I'm honestly surprised this one made it to the polls.

Did no staff notice the lack of a coordinated light source? What's up with the blocky, mismatched highlights and shading?

The chest seems to be cleaved down the middle, like it had its' collar bone broken and healed inward.

Splayed hooves on a hooved animal, real or not, = no.

On a more positive note I do like the face and the mane, minus the massive shading issues.

okay my 2sP's worth tail head shading that makes the body look pointy all sharp and such
legs and such back legs just feel a little two small front legs the one closest to the viewer is off hoof should not be turned out (looks like the guy dislocated something) The other leg is fine, but the hooves seem like they're sticking out too far.
But the thing that bugs me the most is that line off shading down the body that makes it really angular like its a robot, not something alive, is what keeps drawing my eye as wrong.

Not sure how I like this one... It looks more like an underfed donkey than the chubby pony we had before...

The art is lovely as usual though. ^^
