New Shops - Gold Account Testing

Attention, Gold Account users! We have a new feature for you to test--revamped Shops and Galleries!

The user shops and galleries have been rewritten because they currently put a huge stress on our database, and it's affecting the ability of the site to function.

For the new shops and galleries, we’ve set limits for how many items you can have in each, which means we’ll be retiring the Super Shop! and Hoarder! achievements. Currently the limits are as follows: you can have 250 unique items in a shop, and 500 in a gallery. This limit doubles to 500 in a shop, 1000 in a gallery if you have a Gold Account. These limits are only for unique items, you'll be able to have as many duplicates as you'd like.

Your items won't disappear if your Gold Account expires while over the limit, you just won't be able to add any more until you have either sold/removed enough items or have an active Gold Account again. You can have up to 3 shops/galleries, or up to 6 with a Gold Account. We anticipate being able to raise these limits significantly, but we wanted to start off small and increase rather than starting off big and having to reduce it.

Gold Account testing for will be active until 11:59pm on April 16th. The new user shops/galleries will be released to everyone on the 17th. Once the new shops are live, you will not be able to add anything new to your old shops!

On April 24th, all old shops will be disabled. You’ll still be able to remove items from them, you just won’t be able to reprice items or have other users purchase from it.

The Super Shop! and Hoarder! achievements will be retired on the 17th once the shops/galleries go live for everyone.

Information and a link to the new shops can be found here if you're a Gold Account member. will start pushing changes/fixing bugs on the 13th, so keep that in mind as you submit feedback. We will continue to make any necessary changes once shops/galleries are live for everyone to make sure they’re working to their full potential!

We know this will be a big change for a lot of people, but it's a crucial step for the continued improvement and success of the site, and for your overall user experience.

I don't think this will be met with a lot of support. We all have hundreds to thousands of items in our shops and it's a bit ridiculous to expect us to ither make multiple shops, keep crap in your inventory which prevents us from collecting more items, etc. Not a fan.

I realize this and I'm not going to petition for them to make any changes to the wardrobe. It's just that in my case I currently have 12,257 items in my wardrobe and I don't even use half of them but I keep them there for the sake of achievements (13k, 15k, etc) for items I would never even use. I'm probably not the only person who has around ten thousand wearables and might only use three thousand during their stay on subeta (in my case, lately I only change my HA on a monthly basis give or take)... and one of the big issues with galleries is because people hoard items they don't care for simply for achievements? idk.

I just wish I could make the trade in my case and have less wardrobe space instead. I don't even hoard multiples of the same item and I was never in it for the achievements, I just like using galleries and looking at my pretty items instead of burying them in the depths of a vault to never be seen again. To me implementing something like this to galleries IS the last straw but I've already spent a ludicrous amount of real cash on Subeta I can't justify leaving.

At least change it to something like a one gallery limit with up to 5,000 unique items? I could make that work. ;_; I understand they're trying to make more reasons to have a gold account but in this case not even the gold account users win.

Unh. Well. Yes. Instead of spending hours NOW moving stuff from my current galleries to I-don't-even-know-where, I'll wait until someone comes to their senses and at least increases the limits. As for shops, I'll see the prices plummet as everyone tries to get rid of their hoards, so I'm not sure I want to take part in that. I guess my vault will be overflowing pretty soon.

Yea, this might be the last straw. I usually spend about $50-$70 a month in this site, but I've been getting more and more fed up. You can't bother to fix the servers, you just try crap like this to band-aid it over and over, and the wardrobe is still screwed up beyond all recognition after HOW long of promising to fix it? No wonder I spend about 5 minutes a day on the site anymore. This place isn't worth it if I can't even keep filling my gallery.

This will undoubtedly leave a negative impact on the economy during holidays when quests are in high demand for special tokens or retired items. You have 151 items on hand. We will only display 250 at a time.

so after feeding a few things i got to my dog, adding a thing or two to treasure, and cashing in wiz tokens, doing all quests (minus sarah because cha-ching for me atm) added 151 new items to add to my shop! ;; ik it's like beating a dead horse and there's pretty good odds this comment won't be super helpful, but just numbers-wise like...there's just a LOT of item output in the system right now in quests alone, which is a HUGE part of the sP economy, and it feels/seems? as though that hasn't been considered with these changes.

like, i feel like myself and a lot of other folks could be on-board with the shop revamp if there was some relevant background work done/tweaking to systems that this is affected by or will affect. and for all we know that's TOTALLY happening but just not mentioned? i mean i'd assume that you guys thought of quest rewards and the sheer volume of items and yadda yadda but that's not reflected in this news post.

ANYWAY those are my last thought-pennies. good luck friends.

250 in a shop? That's not wise. Why not 500 in the shop and 250 in a gallery?

I agree with the comment that the gallery should work like collecting plushies etc. Only with this acception that you can take it out again. For a gallery it is ridiculus that it still counts the profits and the sales etc.

But I'm not even actively hoarding. This is my funny item description gallery. And I'm not even 50% done with it. T____T does that mean I shouldn't even continue with it if I can't add more things to it?

I understand downsizing to eliminate hoarding but it's not fair to actual galleries like mine who don't hoard for the sake of hoarding :l

Not even QPs seem worth it, because I won't be able to much with THOSE items, either, now... Blech, this leaves me feeling really bitter. Pretty much all I'll have left is my wardrobe to play with, and that only half works, anyway. :T I especially love how this comes out right after an event a lot of us spend frantically trying to acquire currency for to buy all the items. And there were way more than one hundred from the menagerie alone. If we weren't meant to have so many items, why is it so easy to GET that many with minimal effort?

After trying to get the Super Shop achievement for years I won't be able to get the last tier :( I honestly don't have the time to RS ~12k items to get the last one. That makes me really sad ;_; On another note, 250 unique items per shop on 3 shops (if you don't have any galleries :/ ) are just 750 items in total... One week of questing and I reach that limit. So, I'll just have to continue hoarding my items in my vault instead...? I don't see any other option right now. Is that really better than having them in the user shops? I hope that there'll be at least a quick stock button shop -> vault, because removing 33k items by hand would be a pain. T_T

I've been referring subeta to some of my friends and egging them on about joining but now I'm starting to regret it. This seems like the worst time for them to join! User shops and galleries play a big part in playing subeta and to think they wont get to experience subeta the way I got to experience it, is kinda sickening. I agree with other users, it almost seems Subeta is selling out by enforcing this ridiculous change on such a short notice, and without ATLEAST a real test run.

This changes the game for EVERYONE. Not just for the OGs' of subeta, but for the poor newbies who will think "oh great, this site is just like every other money-sucking, pay-to-play, pet/avatar page". Subeta is so much more then that!

One of the most enjoyable freedoms of subeta was user shops and the fact that ANYONE and EVERYONE could make a couple sp with it. Newb or not/ GA or otherwise. When I was a newb, I went bat-shit crazy on questing and vending - just trying to hustle for wardrobe items. I know for a fact that even as a newb, I easily exceeded 250 unique items.

I'm sure subeta knows that this is common ground for a lot of users SO WHY, do they play dumb. I think that's the part that pisses me off the most and breaks my heart at the same time. "It's for your overall user experience" ... right

A lot of people have been mentioning the 'ok so shop limits doesn't limit the amount of junk I wind up with' issue, so here's a thought: maybe only price the first 250 items at a time? That way people can still store all the crap they get from events/vending/quests/just existing on the site as a normal user in the shops instead of letting in languish in inventories or worse clutter up vaults that, at least as I see it, are intended to hold onto the items that we don't want to sell but don't have a use for right this second. Because lets face it guys - no matter how hard you limit these things, those items are still floating around out there. And with this idea, it sounds like they're going to be in everyone's way /and/ clogging up the servers. Making absolutely everyone unhappy. (Not to mention all the talk about how bad this will be for the subetan economy - which I second third fourth fifth and umpteenth based on the other comments I've seen about it.)

Oh come off it, will you? You don't need to know intimate details such as Keith's bank balance in order to know that he earns more than enough to live more comfortably than people who worked back when the economy was stable. It's not hard to do the math here.

To get 10 copies of an item onto the site, it costs $50. Now you can list items for 500 and make no money but most list for 650-700 now a days since it's the only way to make profit. Okay so, assuming you're not keeping one for yourself; that's ten people that need to buy at least $10 dollars in order to purchase the new CW. Meaning the site made an extra $3-4 dollars per purchase, for literally nothing and this excess, creates a psychological trap to make/buy more csc, since the 3-400csc left over is frigging useless.

So for one CW, that's $50 bones up front, plus an almost guaranteed $100 from slotted customers. $150. That's half a wii-u/NEW 3DS and it was made in minutes.

Now do I think he's making Triple A kinds of cash? No, but he's definitely making a tidy sum for himself and yes, he pays people--you kind of have to sweetheart--but that doesn't mean he or the site is struggling any. But thanks for dismissing my claims all the same because you want to look "on the positive side of things."

Face facts, there isn't any. This change will be game breaking. There's not enough time for people to move house, there's no reason why people should. We were promised Galleries would be separate and again, these limits shouldn't be this low to start with.

BTW this bit isn't related to you but something I wanted to ask the site at large: is it the images themselves or the limitations that are slowing down the site? I ask because the site seemed to run better back when we had no inventory limits and there were just as many people on then as there were during Luminaire.

Waking up to a new morning I find these plans even more bleak and ridiculous. With these hairraisingly low numbers there is no real difference between normal or GA - 750 or 1500 individual items opposed to 72k unique items (Main statistics)? or 20k - 40k people would in reality stock in their shops.

I like probably a lot of users have no time to test this - too busy with every day Subeta tasks-, so a little more information for everybody would be helpful. How do you invision item management from now on. This will have an enormous impact on the economy altogether. Just reducing shop capacities is not going to fix the site, on the opposite, this needs to entail tons of other changes in order to actually make them work.

I hope the old shops will remain their prices, so we can at least copy paste?!

On the whole it's dwindling down to having the users suffer for work of the site operators not being done. For many years Keith has been telling us that the whole Subeta code needs to be rewritten and he was working on that, we have gone through ordeals of various server changes and moves, which never went smoothly, to say the least. Tons of projects (even new completely unrelated to normal Subeta life) have been started and left in limbo or restarted again, nothing really gets worked through to the end, it seems judging by site update. And now it has been brought down to: to hell with it, we will simply let our users take the can for the not working script.

honestly i've kept up my GA for auto-pricing, extra quests, and extra layers. layers are from sP now and last ages, and while it's been said already, auto-pricing that few items isn't worth it. i can sit through 500 items and search them; 250 if i let my GA drop- which depending on the limits, i probably will.

'You have a total of 1466 items in your shop' - pretty much just from questing and occasionally vending, and sometimes removing things from my wardrobe. i understand giant hoards are an issue, but with the volume of items that go out from quests daily, these limits are kind of ridiculous? is there going to be any balancing of item rewards being more infrequent and upping sP rewards? is the vault's atrocious category system/UI in general going to be streamlined so users that are using shops for storage can make use of the vault (like they probably should be but the vault is the worst so almost nobody does)? like there are a lot of areas of the site that this impacts man and like. not in a good way apart from strain on the servers being lessened. that's the one plus.

either way, this kind of blows and i don't even have a gallery or a hoard. i just quest to make those munz. 2 thumbs down.

"We anticipate being able to raise these limits significantly"

Now that I've calmed down a bit more, I wanna comment on this line, because there are people saying that some people may have missed this line.

I didn't.

In my opinion, there is still a problem with this, like how long will it take to lift it at all? How many times will it lift? If I were to vend for 250 items across various different vending machines, sure I'm unlikely to get 250 unique items, but I can expect to (and have regularly gotten) a large majority as unique items. In one day. Now, if I were to vend every single day, the number quickly grows thanks to the sheer amount of possible items available. My shop can only hold 250. Three shops, 750 (500 if I want to have a gallery). That's usually about a week or so of vending. Chances of the shops limit being increased before the end of April? Possibly, but from past experience, unlikely. And this is on top of whatever items I already have, quest prizes, event prizes, all those lovely things - I'm going to fill those shops quickly.

And where are those overflows going?

Well, the vault, obviously. There's nowhere else.

Items will build as people quickly run out of room to sell them in shops. They'll stock up in vaults alongside whatever other items they already have from having to empty our old shops, from daily questing, from vending. It's still encouraging hoarding. Just in a different place in the site.

Yes, the limit may (likely) increase. But what about in the interim when we're all still wanting to play the site like we always have but suddenly can't because there's nowhere to put them but the vaults.

If there was a timeline of projected dates to lift the limits, more time to actually TEST if the idea works in the first place, or, even better, an actually realistic item limit (hell, why not all three?), then maybe this would work.

This is the worst idea I have ever seen suggested on this site. And I've been here for 10 years. It honestly felt like a late (and very bad) April fools joke when I first read it. I'm not a big restocker. I do most of the quests every day (in order to earn sP, both from the rewards and from selling the items I get), I sometimes vend (where I sell the items that I don't need for other stuff) and I still have over 2k items in my shop. I feel like 1k+ items is a nice number to use the AP for. These new limits make the AP useless, not to mention the fact that it probably won't work when you have to place items in several different shops to stay below said limits. Having a GA (which I buy every month with csc bought with $) will seem very pointless after this. The extra quests will be pointless since they will only give me more items that I won't be able to fit in my shops. And like others have pointed out before me, this'll most likely put a huge strain on Vaults. And I don't even want to think about having to organize in there when I now have to move things back in there (I got thousands of items out of there because it's easier to organize them in galleries). And I shudder to think what effect this ridiculous change will have on questing when people stop selling lower priced items because of them not earning them any money. Instead more expensive items will be prioritized which means that the prices on less desirable items (pretty much only desired by quest givers) will skyrocket which leads to less quests being completed which means less earnings. Quests will once again become obsolete. And personally I will have lost the thing I do every day to earn sP. Only thing left to use the site for then is to check the forums for artists to commission...

Fragging for crystals, sure, that's an idea, even though all the 'cheap' items will be fragged and not available to purchase in shops for quests etc. But start selling off your hoard? To whom? So someone else can hoard it? But they can't. No point buying a ton of items you can't hoard and can't resell because your shop is too small to take them all.

One of the great pleasures of Subeta is collecting - clothes, minions, alcohol, potions, books, pets/treasure, holiday items ... w/e. We love questing get items to add to our collections and get sP to buy more collection items. We stalk the shops for items for our COLLECTIONS. What's left to do when our collecting and collections are so severely amputated? A few games? Some battling? There's almost no point to Subeta.

I have 13k + unique items (about 1/6 of all Subeta items) in my main shop so I don't have to pay inflated prices when questing. I will start fragging common items today.

I feel quite sickened by the loss of Subeta as we know it.

This is the worst idea I've ever heard...

I have 1,400+ items in my gallery for what will be going into pet treasure chests. I wanted these items separated from everything else for obvious reasons; already had them all labeled and sorted, and now I'm going to be forced to go through all 1,400+ items to reorganize them? Ridiculous and it'll make me not feel like playing the game since I already put so much time into that task :|

And this isn't including all the time needed to transfer everything out of my sales shops into a new shop... ugh.

I just don't feel like players should have to waste quality time over something that should be fixed in another way. As others have said, many sites have lots and lots of capacity for thousands of items to be in shops. I'd suggest looking for another way to improve the site than making players do grunt work. It makes players, like myself, get turned away from a site and want to spend my money elsewhere until I someday, perhaps months from now, feel like messing with the huge mess this is going to create for me.

I already have little time to play sim games in my life... I'd like for my time on them to be spent having fun. I can't even imagine what it'll be like for the players with thousands and thousands of items sitting in their shops, I feel so bad for them :(

I honestly think this is going to put a cramp on Subeta, seeing as half the fun is collecting stuff.

Also, there seems to some fundamental flaw in this game if massive hoards of items are causing a problem, because the way this game is set up means you're constantly receiving stuff without even trying; through quests alone you get tons of items every single day, and without a GA it's really time consuming and dull to price and sell things so that they move out of accounts. Hence we all have massive hoards of useless items, there's no way round it.

I guess this means absolutely everything'll have go in vaults now, which is going to make managing items a pain in the arse - and won't that cause it's own server problems?

I have 2,724 unique items in my shop, i do all of the quests nearly every day, which means, every day I get another ~100 items. With a limit of 750 items in shops, I will never ever get rid of all those items!! How should that even work? I'm not hoarding items, but hoarding sP, which means, I NEED to sell items. I really don't get it, I take all site errors with a smile, if the shops could stay the same...
