- I believe is. I might try. My track record with camp isn't good though.

Mine's not the greatest either, I usually pull less than half the words I write in November. But some words are better than no words :)

I'm going to give it a try. I'm going for 25,000 words though.

Yes, I am a role-playing character, but I don’t bite (much.)

- I think that's part of the problem though, I set a lower goal so it's not as hectic, but then that sets me up for more procrastination, like. I only needed to write 100 today, I'll just write 200 tomorrow....300...400 etc until it gets to Nano levels and then I'm like fffffk this was supposed to be less stressful! lol. But you are right, some words is better than no words.

That's a good goal. What are you going to be working on? I'm doing editing this camp so I set my goal in pages. I've never done a goal in anything other than words so we'll see if I guessed realistically lol.

Wow you sound JUST like me. That's me every camp! The procrastination struggle, and usually it's over dumb stuff. I'll be like "I need to write" but then "Oh this show I've already seen just got put on Netflix; I should rewatch that." Or I start off researching something quick and then hours later I'm like "Oh yeah, I was writing" XD

I'm like that too, I can't write just 'on the dot' which is why I never do the word sprints... I have to sneak up on a thought and pin it down and the stalking takes time! :D But once I got it, sometimes I can just go for a thousand ;)

- Ok, I have officially signed myself up for Camp. I set my word count goal to 30, the lowest it can go apparently. lol. So hopefully I'll get that, and then some, without any pressure. Are you guys already part of a cabin?

Yay! Congrats on joining. I'm not in a cabin yet. I keep looking on the "finding cabin mates" forum but I don't really feel like I fit in any of the ones I'm seeing so far. How about you?

- I usually do random, but usually don't get anyone super great. I haven't signed up for one yet.

I used to always do random but the cabin's always ended up pretty dead. Like half the people forgot they signed up for camp and never popped in. Then the remaining people would post for about the first week and then . . . silence. For the rest of camp.

Last April was the first time I joined a cabin through the forums and met a great group of writers that I kept in touch with all year. But they all write fantasy and scifi which aren't genres I write or read in so I always kinda feel like the odd man out. I think I might end up doing random again this year and see what happens.

- Yeah, that's bee my experience with random cabins too. I'm also a fantasy writer :P I'm not smart enough to do anything else that isn't make-believe.

Haha, I always think I'm not creative enough to write fantasy! Having to come up with your own worlds and stuff seems really hard to me. I mostly write contemporary YA, sometimes with some paranormal elements thrown in there. Even my one fantasy attempt was still basically set in the real world.

I joined the camp now too. I put down 20,000 words of short stories. I think that I can achieve that. I'd like to get 20,000 words and also finish at least four stories. But maybe I'll only manage 3 stories within 20,000 words.

This month I've done almost that much (well, I've started four stories and finished one of them! Three of the stories are a series though... I'd like to do not-connected separate stories for April.)

I haven't joined a cabin yet but there was a short story writing one on the forums and I asked to join it.

(editing, sorry if it double-pings you)

I write stuff set in the real world a lot, layure, and also write a lot of science fiction and fantasy. To me they're equally difficult, just different ways. The real world has a lot of the worldbuilding done for me but it also has a lot of restraints on what the setting can be which affects the characters. Science fiction and fantasy let me change the world to be the character I want it to be more easily, but I have to flesh it out more.

It's like writing with existing characters vs creating new ones for a story, same thing really, but existing setting vs new one.

I notice our HAs reflect this at the moment! Mine's a mermaid and KiaArra's is a zombie while layure's is a human looking person :D

Congrats on the awesome progress this month! I've barely looked at the story I'm going to be editing for camp.

I guess for me, because pretty much all my characters are normal boring humans (pending the one fantasy story) I don't find the real world to be too constricting. A lot of times I make up my own towns and cities instead of using real locations to give myself a bit more freedom to modify, but I usually draw of a few specific locations for inspiration.

I love the HA observation :) Mine is pretty much me, except in real life I have 2 crazy lab mixes, but there aren't any wearable items that look like labs except the service dog ones.

The real world is too constricting for me even when the characters are baseline humans sometimes, ... I suppose because sometimes I want to explore who they would be if they didn't have every real world problem to deal with without making them unsympathetic by shoveling the problems on to someone else.

I should not spoil my characters that way, I suppose, but I give them enough problems even in a world better than our own in some ways, worse in others.

Real life has damped my fire for writing this month. I was quite excited for it at the beginning of the month, but sick babies, problems with the family, going back to work after being off for 4 months maternity leave and being married to Weldon...well, I don't just want to be a complainer. (I'm not complaining about Weldon, he's just a constant source of distraction...in all the good ways, mind you...but I digress....What was this thread about?

- Well, camp is all about getting away from real life, so hopefully you will have a few moments to escape and get some writing done!

I've just realized that I'll still be on vacation the first 3 days of camp, that never sets a good precedent. Maybe some writing can get done on the plane.

yes, write on the plane. Many people have told me they have done good writing on planes.

I hope your babies are healthy soon and you have time for writing!

Thanks Folks. I'm writing today, I'm doing some editing of one of my stories and trying to get some ideas sketched out.
