Dammit subeta, how did I only JUST NOW get that ping form almost an hour ago :( Oh well, off to my soccer game now.
Congrats !
I'm so happy you made it!!! Are you going to jump right into editing, or will you wait for January?
Thank you!!! I'm really working for it!
Just wanted to make sure you saw this one :) https://nanowrimo.org/gws/VxcNJkC1eGSUk6xsre1rcQ 15min at 11!
I will probably wait to edit. :P
Oh haha I thought you were done!
That's for the best I think haha I definitely want to leave it for like a month!!
congratulations!
I probably won't edit until January either... need distance from it, right?
I'm gonna need y'all to prod me in January to edit/keep writing!!!
Back from my soccer game, time to power write 3k words, and then another 300, then another 25. lol. Crunch time! I want to go visit my friends tomorrow night, not get stuck writing!
:edit:
49988 Arg, you have got to be friggin kidding me OTL. Yeah, yeah, it's only 12 words, but I have had nothing but issues for the past hour and I just wanted to be done! First my google drive freezes and it tells me that it hasn't saved and that I need to make a back up, cool, except that I'm on my laptop which means it's going to take 10 minutes to open word. Ok, so while I'm waiting for word to open, I go to my desktop to see how much of my work had actually been saved.... NOPE my other computer is dead and I have no idea what is wrong with it! Ok, so 10 minutes later, word finally opens, and I get the bit copied that I haven't already backed up... 5 minutes later word finally decides to paste it, it's not the part that I selected. Go back, have issues scrolling, have to copy and paste it back page by page. FINALLY get that all done, Word tells me i have 50092 words, hurray! And then I go to validate and 49988 >.< Those twelve stupid little words mean I can't go to bed yet. And I my lap top is still lagging, and I still can't get my other computer to turn on.
You got this!! Twelve more! I've got 3,234 left to write today.
We should make some kind of group or list or something so that we all can get together in January to start editing!
: I know you can do it. Just write like you're telling another person a story. Don't worry about editing or making it perfect. Get the words out of your head and into your manuscript and worry about editing later.
: Have you written a Character Biography? It could be an appendix. There's at least 12 words in that.
What are you going to do after you win? I'm going to take advantage of the offers for software for 50% off. That's how I got Scrivener the first time. I love Scrivener, it makes writing so intuitive. It's formatting feature is the best too. I'm going to get the software Scrapple, a visual idea generator software tool.
I'm currently editing Sparky and the Wheezles: Decision at Glen Meadow, my first book that took me three years to write. I'm going to try to sell it this year and hopefully my second book, Lady Frieda: Master Healer of Glen Meadow. I still need to finish Benji the Greaser: Savior of Glen Meadow so that it dovetails well with my new book, Sabine: Bell Master of Glen Meadow. I also have two previous manuscripts that I am saving for when I do get a book sold, Fred and Herb Ruin the Galaxy and Grandpa's Time Machine. My problem is that I like to tell stories, I just don't like to edit them. Editing is where real writing comes into play. I'm scared of editing.
- You got this! That's less than I wrote last night in order to get to 50k before bed. (at 2am, but still I didn't get home from soccer until 11pm, soooo, you totally got this)
- lol, I do have character biographies already in there. My whole 'novel' this year is just an outline! Got character biographies, step by step plot points, big and small, then broken down into individual events, extra tidbits about side characters that might not make it into the final version but that me, the writer, needs to know to avoid plot holes. I'm not done writing the story by any means, so getting an extra 12 words was pretty easy, I just wrote the next step.
I remember you working on those other stories in past years! GL with them! I hope you can get them published, it seems like you have put a lot of time and thought into the world building and such. Editing does kinda suck, but I think it helps us grow as writers. I think it would be helpful to have someone to edit with, so I don't get stuck in my own head. Hopefully once I get this whole story worked out plot-wise, I can go back and make sure there are no plot holes (I've already picked out a few that need fixin') and then make sure the characters stay 'in character', then maybe I can go back and actually write the thing proper.
I'm not sure if I want scrivener or software like that.. I'm not sure what it does or what it would gain me. Maybe I don't understand novel writing well enough. I have in the past tried to write character biographies and they either were boring pointless things or they turned into stories of their own :D
Congratulations !
so close! :)
...
as for editing... I generally don't mind doing it, but, I'm not especially good at throwing anything away and starting over. Though I've done it a few times, I never got as far the 2nd time as I did the first.
But fixing bits and adding and taking bits out, I do that fine. I'm not sure I truly improve what I started with, though! Usually I think I do. :)
Usually I like reading over what I've written, too. But with the Nanonovel I am not feeling like doing that. That's why I want to wait. Maybe it'll feel fresher in January. I did get decent feedback from the people I let read it... so that's good... my husband is reading it today, I'm curious what he'll think :)
- You can always try the 30 day free trial of scrivner ... you might have missed the window for that though, they might only have that available during november. But scrivner is really nice because you can organize your work really easily, so you can have it divided into folders for parts, chapters, sub hapters, etc, and you can put mini synopses and character tags on them, so it is much easier to find stuff and refer back to it later. And it makes it really easy to reorder stuff and there's lots of different viewing modes so you can reorganize. Plus it gives you space for resources like character profile sheets, art, maps, research etc. I don't utilize it to it's full potential even, but I love it.
Thanks for the motivation everyone! I've got 1,766 words left to write! I'm so excited!
- You can do it, you are so close! w00!
I knooooow I'm running out of words! Hahahaha
- Write a dedication! Write an 'about the author' go back and find a random location where something happened and give it extra description!
That's a good idea! Thanks for the tip! Right now I'm writing the ending from another characters perspective. I'm not satisfied with any of the endings I wrote, so I figured why not write more of them??
: If you "Won" NaNoWriMo this year, you earn a 50% discount on Scrivener, the best writing software for MacOS and Windows. That offer is good through November 2019.
Scrivener is out-of-the-box easy to get started with. But as you use it, you discover story organization features that become quite valuable.
The features I like the best are:
I did it! I made it across the finish line!! I'm so happy!!!
