I got behind yesterday a little. I need to write 2500 words or something today to catch up (900 done though).
Maybe I can!
I thought about it a lot. I just don't seem to be able to execute on my intention when it comes to this type of plot (suspense/thriller) because I just write "people talking in rooms" too much and not enough actual action :) also plot keeps changing and going off rail
- lol, 2500 words is nothing! That's pretty much how much I have to write every day to finish on time at this point! Did a god chunk last night, but stayed up tpp late and now I don't feel good, so I'm not really in the mood to write today :(
That's exactly how I feel! I feel like all I do is write dialogue, and there's not nearly enough action or description haha I don't know how to break out of it either! I'm hoping editing later will fix a lot of that

hope you feel better soon! I did it, wrote my way out of the hole today :D
Editing later! Not much fun though...
I'm really looking forward to editing right now... But I feel like when I actually have to do it I won't want to haha We'll see!
I don't much like editing my own work usually... I like editing other people's though :)
Interesting! I also enjoy editing other people's work. I think it's easier when you're not quite so involved, then you can step back and look at it from and outside perspective.
Let me tell you more about my nanonovel.... (feel free to tl;dr this though)
I have four viewpoint characters.
All four have something in common: they're vampire blood addicts meaning they consume blood from vampires to extend their lifespan and also it's addictive intrinsically. So 2, 3, and 4 are all quite old and have been doing this a long time (over 100 years in each case) but the main character is younger and has got herself off it at least once and then right back.
There's one more bad guy addict person who is the wife of viewpoint character 4
Then the other significant characters are: 4 vampires (a 5th will arrive at the end to be the deus ex machina sort of) and 4 regular humans (all of whom have been fed on by vampires from time to time) ... and supporting characters include a few bartenders, a couple of club girls, a toddler (main character's daughter) and three dogs (pets of characters 1-3). (And an Irish widow, I forgot her, she's only in the first chapter I think)
My biggest editing problem will be fixing the plot so it doesn't contradict itself ... or no, even bigger problem, when I take out all the filler it will probably be half the size of a story and not entirely make sense ... or maybe the real problem is that I actually plan to have some previously unmentioned vampire show up and fix things? But she's from the same source as characters 1-3 and the dogs and one of the original 4 vampires, so... why not have her show up, I say. It's a speed writing challenge, not a quality writing challenge XD
- I definitely prefer editing other people's work. Editing my own work is so hard, I find that I'll often read what I wrote wrong, because I know what it is supposed to sound like in my head, even though what is actually written doesn't convey what I wanted to say at all.
- Making sure the plot doesn't contradict itself is a struggle for me too! lol, that's why I like having other people edit my work. My biggest problem right now is making sure the magic system makes sense, and the 'rules' that I have made for it are followed. I don't know why I decided to make two different schools of magic, keeping them apart is hard, but at this point it is actually plot relevant that there are two different 'types' of magic.
That definitely sounds complicated haha But I think you have a really good idea going! I wanted to do different view points, but I felt like it was gonna take a lot of planning beforehand so I've just gone running with one viewpoint and I may add in a second later on. I think you'll be able to pull it all together though!
Oh, I can't understand that. Maybe you can come up with a trick to be able to step back? Try reading out loud, then you'll hear the words and your brain maybe won't have time to correct it.
- Yeah, I should read it out loud more, that might help. (but not now, still writing!)
Two schools of magic with a plot significance is a great plan! It sounds really interesting. I bet it is horrible to keep straight though.
If you want maybe we can trade editing since we both like editing other people's work, I'll try and edit yours, and you try and edit mine ;)
I have that exact same problem editing my own stuff. It sounds right to me when I read it because I know what I meant. So frustrating!
I didn't really plan the viewpoint switching in advance at all! I planned the overall plot in advance (but didn't stick to everything I planned) but having one of the villains be a viewpoint character was something I did spur of the moment to get started on Nov 1 because I got stymied trying to figure out how to start with the main character's viewpoint. It was just fun to write that scene from Sev's view and see what he was thinking. It made it a lot easier to have a plot in the first place -- it told me what the antagonists wanted to achieve, and why the protagonists were going to have a big problem with it :D
- Lol, it's really not, it's confusing as heck. I initially added it in as something fun in one of the characters' designs, and then I started playing with it with other characters, and then if became an actual plot point when one character uses another character because of the other character uses the other magic type. Initially it seemed really interesting, but keeping the two separate is proving to be challenging.
Sounds like a good plan! Mine is still just basically planning at this point though, nothing set in stone, but someone to screen for plot holes and analyze flow would be nice.
Right! Keep writing for now, we can all complain about editing together later hahahaha
That's really cool it worked out for you! I'm glad it ended up being a useful tool. I just had a list of scenes I wanted to happen and roughly in what order. I knew I wanted certain scenes to be from one characters perspective, but I wanted the other characters perspective on some other stuff, and I feel like the chapters should alternate perspectives too. So it'll just be a flip flop after the fact, shouldn't be too big a deal!
Writing from only one character's perspective is hard, you can only ever give your reader the information that the one character knows. It can be a good thing, or a bad thing. I started my current story in first person, but quickly discovered that that would never work, the side characters have important sub plots that need their own place in the story, and as well, the main character HAS to remain ignorant about certain things that I want the reader to know, or at least have hints about.
My other story that I've been off and on working on, works really well in first person though, cus all the important things happen to her, or she finds out about them later, and all the supporting cast are either with her, or don't need their own stories told for the plot to progress. Certain interesting things that are hidden to the character are also hidden from the reader.

not a big deal at all. It should work out fine!
I agree entirely about how some stories are difficult to tell from one point of view and others are fine.
The current story I'm writing is a sequel to a story I wrote before, and the earlier story was all from the main character's viewpoint. I did end up writing bits that are from other characters' viewpoints, but I left them as NOT part of the story, just background to fill in for me as the author what was happening to the other characters. Even if the main character never found out the details, those occurrences helped me make the secondary characters more well rounded and have more unique personalities and development.
- I have a lot of those chapters, ones that are just background information that I can refer back to later. (I like your HA btw)
I put them in a separate google doc of 'other stuff' and wrote all the things that I wanted to write happening but that the main character not only didn't know at the time but never found out about... it's fun sometimes!
maybe doing that was part of why I wanted to write the new story from multiple POV, but I think it was just that initially, I tried to write it just from main character POV for nanowrimo, and couldn't get started. What got me started was using another character POV. so because of that, I just thought, go with it! and I went with it :)
Thanks, about the HA, I change my HA often :D I made this one today because I got the fire wings from my wishlist in the token shop restock :) Oh and I had got this skirt bustle thing (Delish item) in the free shop but hadn't used it. So I made the HA around those two items.
I'm behind ahh! Let's do some catching up :) 15 minutes at 9:15. https://nanowrimo.org/gws/hhlLbpnsupz2jGjIJMhPoA
Next! Doing another to play catchup :) 25 at 9:50 https://nanowrimo.org/gws/8AIu0EubZRGXpmmGuiFsiA
Ew snow! Safe travels. Supposed to be a big snowstorm tonight here too ;___;
- Just about to drive home, I'll ping you when I'm there. It's snowing, so the roads will likely be sloooow.
- You inspired me to make a new HA for fireside.
