Yeah. I thought that was actually really helpful advice because like.. bleeding out is immediate, and an infection isn't even guaranteed. So do your best with what you have. Because sterile and clean is drilled into everyone always, you know?!
Oh my gosh what a flake. She sounds super well prepared as well.
Good luck! I hope it's shorter for you. :(
.. AND that she's a better teacher!
Class over for tonight! No break, but I'm glad its over early. She says with the small group we have, we SHOULD get done by 9 each night, but it depends on how the discussions and presentations go. And - Oooh yay. I guess talking "in person" helps :P So at the end of class, I asked to talk to her about the practicum issue, and so - she asked me if I'd ever worked in day care, I was like, yes, a LONG time ago, and she asked if I was in PreK now - yes, for the past 6 years. So she is exempting me from the 1hr practicum I was SUPPOSED to be in, but she is also moving me back to taking the 3hr practicum (credit hours), in the spring so I stay with my group of people I am taking classes with. My "cohort" as she calls it LOL SO! One less class YAY! :P HOWEVER THAT MEANS MY FINANCIAL SITUATION will change again sigh I think I might just let whatever happens with the money happen. If I get a refund, fine. If I don't and they decrease my loans, fine. WHATEVER at this point. Like you said, I can always try and go in and make the payment back on my own or something. Also I think that means I have to reapply for the practicum/field experience and get the school to fill out the cooperating teacher form again. sigh oh well! :P
ooh yay forum point!
[edit] oook. So I was on my school stuff and my award letter link has completely disappeared LOL I wonder if thats to do with all the changes going on. WEIRD. You'd think the old version would still be available to look at (I printed it, so it doesn't bother me its gone). I got an email stating I was removed from the practicum class, but its still on my class portal and in my class schedule, but I figure it'll take more than a day for that to go away.
Oh yes I also forgot to say that I think as a teacher (other than some rambling, which doesn't bother SOME people but does bother me a bit) I think she'll be good. Shes nice, playful, tries to make class a good time for all, and yet also wants us all to learn what we need to.
... i SWEAR I replied this morning!
... but now I don't remember what I said.
I'm glad it looks like she'll be a good teacher! But also.. eesh, seriously, what a mess! But it sounds like an overall net good, so.. I'd take it happily :P
lol SURE!!! :P you replied in your head, right? :D
I'm on a quick break from my Wed class. This instructor is nice, seems very easy going. AND I think this class will be pretty easy for me. The book is supposed to be available online, but it also appears that we can totally pass the class w/o it, so I am not going to stress over it, although one of my classmates already is hahahah I'll read the chapters if they ever find out how to get to the book and tell us all. Todays class is Inquiry Based Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers - and her first words are "you guys are going to have a HARD TIME doing my work, because your brains are used to PreK and Kinder, and I'm going to be telling you all "make it simpler, make it easier" when you do your work" LOL I can do simple and easy! Its just that much simpler and easier to COMPLETE the work if I can do simple and easy!! Mondays class was Learning Through Play and Exploration (I hope you guys are willing to help me create a toy and a game hahahah) You were so helpful last time I had to "create" things - this time I have to actually MAKE it tho, not just "create" on paper or in my imagination and describe.
edit: Oh thank goodness. Class got over before 9 again. I really hope that continues. It seems this class will be zoom only, no in person. However my Monday class wants to try to do at least 1 in person class per campus (3 campus locations) and she might see if she can fit in 2 each. I doubt it tho, since week 1 was zoom, week 2 will be zoom and week 8 will be zoom - so that leaves only 5 weeks :P She could do 2 campus visits to 2 locations and only 1 at the third I guess LOL Who knows what she will decide.
Yay for easy classes!
And.. maybe?! I may have, I do that a lot with texts and such haha. But I really thought I actually did it :P
Going to an opening day meeting at the school today, then Alex and I are going ot the movies tonight. I'm looking forward to it, even though it's not really my kind of movie :P
Deadpool and Wolverine. We used our free tickets and popcorns, so only spent $6 for the soda we shared :P
It was good though! I'm not unhappy we went to see it.
plus like.. I was VERY tired of my children by the time we left.. half an hour before we had to :P
I have fallen so far behind on the X-Men movies. I watched like the first three or four that came out and I know there is more I watched Deadpool once with Ryan at home. Wasn't too enthused by it. I never got huge into any of the superhero movies to be honest.
[edit] 4pm Hmm I got a phone call from my advisor/teacher today. To tell me she removed me from the practicum class and put me back on for Spring. Whiiiiich, I thought was done like Monday or Tuesday? But hey whatever. I also got an email from someone else who said THEY did that, but eh.
450pm I have now completed all classwork for this week, except reading Chapter 1 of my book for Monday, which I will do either Sunday or Monday before class so it is fresh on my mind. I MIGHT, if I get bored enough, read it tonight or tomorrow and then RE-read it later hahahah :P
[edit] Sunday 1110am WELL! They are moved out. Mostly. The middle room is still full of baby stuff and some of their random stuff, and there is a small pile in the kitchen and the bedroom. But they got most of the stuff out of bedroom, kitchen, livingroom and attic, so there is that. She is coming back Monday to get as much more as she can fit in the xterra. I kind of wonder what they are going to do with all the baby stuff. The apartment is small and I bet they'll want to leave it here :/ I just might charge a storage fee :P Would that be rude? :P Ryan wants the crib left here anyway, so its like, car seats, swing, bassinet, stroller, bunch of clothes, diapers, wipes, toys and other small stuff. There is also some of their crap on the porch.
I have decided to use the rest of my yellow paint (I got it to try and cover the middle room and make it fresh for a baby but it didn't cover the other colors very well) - I am going to use it in my bedroom on one wall and see how I like it, and I might decide to paint the rest of my room that color. And I also have plans (not too soon, but soon as I can) to get brown/green paint and fix up "Shane's" room as a guest room, Which I had been contemplating that before he needed to move back in anyway - I'll fix the walls, repaint the brown/green and paint over the camo wall either solid or brown/green like the other walls, and put some sort of paper border over the middle area where the (camo) duct tape tore off the drywall backing (oops). THEN I will put my old queen mattress in there and buy a metal frame to hold it so it's off the floor, and get a standing wardrobe thing, and it will be nicely set up for visitors. IF I ever get any. Katie and Wes usually stay at his parents. My parents rarely visit, Shane probably won't visit often...but still. I will have it set up! :) Also I think I will get the black, orange and green (if I can match or almost match it) and finish repainting the middle room, eventually. (like, after I can get all the other crap out of there)
Oh yes, so the teacher/advisor that called me Friday and confirmed I was removed from the class? I thought she didn't leave a message - but she did. It did not come thru on my phone til last night and all I could do was laugh and laugh. So in her message she is like "Katherine, you did not attend orientation for 487 on Tuesday. We had a makeup session on Thursday and you did not attend that either, I was calling to see what caused you to miss it" - but obviously by the time I called her back (15mins after the phone call Friday morning) she must have realized I was the person she was removing from the class (AFTER she left the message of course) :P HILARIOUS but also sooo stupid! :P As I said, I couldn't help but laugh. I would have been annoyed to get that message Friday morning, but by Saturday, having already spoken to her on the phone again, I just thought it was funny. AND funny/stupid! When I signed into my canvas on Friday (where my classes are online) I was actually finally removed from the class!
[edit] Monday 930pm SHHHHH YA'LL ARE TOO LOUD Anyway :P Actually I guess ya'll are too busy hahah! Its ok tho. Class got over around 9. I am exhausted :P So off track but she does do a good job getting back on track before going too far off the rails. However I swear some things she is just OBLIVIOUS to. Oh well. Class Wednesday, but no zoom meetings at all the week after (monday is Labor Day and our Wed teacher said no zoom that week either).
[edit] Wednesday 8/28 345pm GUYS! PROGRESS has been MADE! Nathan has a job interview today! (Dominos, delivery driver).
In other news. Shane asked me today if I would puppy sit for a few weeks - Anna is trying to get her learners permit for CDL and wants to go work for Swift. While she is at orientation/with a trainer, they want me to keep the dog. Then she'll get permission for the dog to ride with her (Shane can't do that, Collins does NOT allow pets on the trucks). He OFFERED to pay me to puppy sit. :o I about died of shock from that. Of course, poor puppy will be in a cage from when I leave for work til whenever Nathan wakes up OR I get home, but it is what it is. It won't start until sometime in September.
Sorry, there's been some crazy stuff going around here. like... AHHHH. I felt like we were on a teen drama for a few days.
Christy Mathewson Day was great though, Iz and I had a lot of fun, we worked at three different boots but my favorite was the Big 6 booth, I got to spin the wheel a few times :P
That's a LOT of baby stuff to leave around! And YAY for Nathan getting an interview, at least! And the crazypants.. but puppysitting, ack! At least he'll pay you for it? Since it'll take a good amount of your time and effort.
Hiiiiii :P Sorry to hear about teen drama stuff. Been there, done that (maybe not quite so drama-ish as you tho) - It sucks. <3
Class got over about 815-830. I then watched a 30min video that we were required to watch and have to formulate a discussion response about. yay :P I'll have to watch it again before I do the response.
Yep. lots of baby stuff. Lots of other little stuff. They're going to stop by Friday to get more of whatever they left. Together. Tho Anna did pop by today and grabbed a few things (I only really noticed some drinks, and paper towels missing from their piles of stuff? Maybe some of the dirty clothes from the bedroom?) It is weird. I can't imagine wanting to take a big dog along on the road with me in a truck. I can't imagine how it will get DOWN from the truck? I mean, it can learn to climb UP the steps I bet, but how do you get it down w/o it getting hurt or you lifting a big 80+ lb dog when its full grown? Right now the puppy is about 4m old and was around 25lbs when I took it to the vet 2-2 1/2 weeks ago. The most annoying thing is that the puppy and Belle play and aggravate each other (and me more than each other) and knock stuff off my side table :P Other than that I don't mind the puppy, and the biggest down side is that if Nathan gets a job (SOOO EXCITED he got an interview. He said it was very quick, they asked some questions and that was all, and said they were waiting on the background check - didn't know you needed that for delivery driver at dominos?) BUt if he is working when I am in class, then the puppy sitting MIGHT be a pain. But I'll figure it out.
[edit] 635am Upcoming college assignments - Discussion Post and 2 responses (in both classes), ethics assignment (paper), tv/tablet observation assignment. (video I mentioned is what I have to base my 2nd discussion assignment on). Due by Sunday and Tuesday nights I also have to begin research to compare two ECE teaching styles and take pictures and begin putting together a slideshow of toys.
I swear I was going to mention something else this morning, but I can't remember what it is now. Maybe I'll remember later :P
It's probably good for Belle to have someone to play with, though!
You're doing well on classes already!
El has enjoyed their first few days of classes.. they're really enjoying intro to glassblowing. Turns out they're doing stained glass first, THEN glassblowing. And she's making me a stained glass hippo!
School doesn't start for the other two (and me, I guess!) until Thursday :P
Oh glassblowing sounds interesting! Katie did all kinds of different art classes, including photography and pottery. She graduates in December! I can't wait to see a photo of the stained glass hippo!
I have to do research/papers this weekend. BOO. It'll be ok tho. I just hate papers. I'd rather do a quick discussion or even a quiz and - GASP - no quizzes in either of these classes at all :o I didn't even see a final exam. There is like, a "project" presentation at the end of each of them - for one I have to design like a "play environment presentation" and the other I have to do a "curriculum unit" (infant/toddlers). So those are like my final exams I guess Im a bit annoyed tho as the schedule says "work on the play environment" every week starting this week but she did not even touch base on that or what she expects it to be...so we can't really start it? I hope she does at our next zoom meeting (not that I need 6 weeks to do it, but 4 should be good. I'll make a point to ask if she doesn't bring it up herself. I guess I can also go click on it and see what the directions say? :P lol edit: well that wasn't very helpful to be honest "Play Environment Project/Reflection Paper - You will design a digital play environment indoors & outdoors that is stimuli-rich and demonstrates an inviting play experience for children. This project will be presented in class on the last day via Zoom. Create a simple PowerPoint with 3-5 slides or a video showcasing the play environments to classmates. Creativity is a must!"
EDIT 2 : Umm. Heh. This doesn't seem at all like an ethical assignment? More just like a "think about this" type of assignment. I have no clue how to work ethics into it, or even if I should?
Birth-Kindergarten teachers' perceptions of play in early education have been overlooked for decades. Teachers who are in touch with the power of play are more likely to use play-based teaching strategies than those who are not. Connecting Teachers' Play to Children's Learning Ethics Assignment Why should teachers deepen their understanding of the importance of play and develop the ability to skillfully and intentionally guide children's learning through play?
EDIT 3 One befuddled brain, 2 articles read and quoted, and one just over a page and a quarter long (plus a reference page) paper later, WITH a bit of ethics tossed in (it would be unethical NOT to use the best practices of learning through play, right?) :P My paper is finished and ready to be turned in.
It would definitely be unethical not to :P
I can't believe Katie graduates in December already!
You purchased:
Clump of Fetid Horse Hair
Do I want it? No. Was it worth 600 tokens? probably not.. but I DO want the achievements :P
Went in to clean up the kitchen at the school today for 4 hours. It was fun to hang out with everyone though! And now Liz and I are going back in Tuesday.. the other 3 were already going in at 6am to make breakfast for the teacher, but Liz and I are coming in at 9 to help clean up the rest and set up for school on Thursday.
WOW 600 tokens? :o And only priced at 1.4mil? NO not worth it, except for the achievements!!
I know. I need to talk to the principal and set up the personal day off - because that is during the last week before Christmas break, but I AM GOING. (we aren't supposed to take of "critical" days but it's a TUESDAY so I should be ok since I never ask for personal days, well.... rarely)
Aww we don't get breakfast made for us. Nice. We CAN go get breakfast once the kids start if we want whatever is being served, just like we can have the lunch if we want (gotta pay for either meal though, ugh and BREAKFAST is not normally worth the cost...lunch is, since it's cheaper than a $5 meal at any fast food)
[edit] Dinner cooked and eaten. Also, my ethics assignment is turned in, my discussion post for both classes are complete, I have made ONE response to one discussion and am waiting on more posts to do the other THREE (1 more for the one, 2 for the other). Also, I have completed and turned in my tablet/television assignment. Other than the discussion responses, I am done for this week. Next week I have to do an online training class, since that's what the teacher wants us to do since we aren't doing a zoom meeting, for the infant/toddler class. And for the other, I have to work on that toys assignment PowerPoint and do a discussion post and response. AND read chapter 2.
Well, this is a special breakfast, just for the teachers. They're allowed to buy lunch too, and yeah, it's not a bad deal depending on what you get because it's only $3 for lunch and you can get a big salad with chicken in it, two fruits, another veg, and milk so.. not bad!
Now I'm waiting up because I'm going to listen to the football game.. in the hopes that I can stay up and remember to get Lily :P
yeah, I'd be taking that day off too, for sure! Anyone should recognize that that's an important event.
Its $4.25 for lunch here. And I think $2.50 or 2.75 for breakfast. No salads for me (used to have that option a few years ago, but not nowdays) We usually have the main dish, one or two veg, and a fruit. Sometimes also a potato or rice choice. And milk but I don't get that, I bring my tea from home. As an adult I can get two serving bowls (little plastic containers) of each side OR ask them to dish up a bit more onto my plate, they don't mind :) Sometimes they hang onto my plate and dish it up before giving it to me instead of letting me get the little containers LOL
It was jersey day today to kick off college football and one of my little girls and her sister came dressed up twin-like in cheer leader skirts and college tshirts - and it was KATIE's COLLEGE!! I was so surprised and thrilled. So of course I took a picture to show her lol And the little girl from my class told me they were going to watch daddy play football and cheer him on tonight awwwww And I'm sure it will be fine, its just that I have to remember to TALK to him about it. And then put it in the system after I get a sub for that day.
