Hi, top damage for the whole thing again. Chiming in before people start saying "Most of you are only complaining because you didn't get X". I got X, I've gotten X for years and there's a good chance I'll keep getting X even if I don't do top damage.
That said, please by all that is holy and unholy, go with waves or a prize shop or a Pirates vs Islander style war. I'm a nut that is always going to try for the top but I don't get any particular joy from clicking for 12 hours or more straight in a day/few days.
I'd be happy if there were multiple waves but my highest score from only one wave was counted. If it means I'm clicking for 2, 3 or 4 hours max, it would be an improvement.
Prize shop would also be great. I don't care if that means grinding wins on all the gel challengers with my pet army, grinding one pet for as many wins per gel challenger as I can get or even having X damage to the Hydra = Y prize points. As long as its spread out over a decent amount of time, has clearly defined goals and doesn't require non-stop clicking for day/s, it would be more fun than what we currently have.
An A vs B war is the most fun of all. I like winning but I like fighting with a team even more. I was on the team that lost the Pirates vs Islanders war. I still had a blast because of my teammates and getting prizes from the shop for all my effort. It keeps the fun of competition but doesn't require individuals to be top to succeed.
Just my two cents.
I know I'd really love to have more tiers for the various gelly achievements, such as the golems, cause I've completed them (excluding the minis). Just gimme a reason to fight past 10 wins with my best fighter, whether it means hitting higher tiers for stat boosters or racking up prize points.
Also,
This. I know double-dipping for the best prize (core) doesn't happen, but it devalues the rest of the prizes given if 10 pets were used to fight Hydra and all got the same set of prizes x10!

Wow, if I'd have realized from the get-go that it was top 10 in tier, I'd have battled with my T2 pets like nobodies business and set myself in for a Core. I could actually really use that for my actual battle pet.
Lesson learned: don't use your battle pet for boss battles, better to grind away with a weak pet to score high =/
That's the thing that bothers me the most. Followed closely by the weirdly timed and scattered waves with limited numbers of challengers.
I'm in agreement with the suggestions that we we stop limiting the number and just have them come in waves for set hours with breaks in between - and possibly have them stick around for more than a day and a half.
Also a prize shop would be nice rather than the same round of prizes on repeat for all pets.
I've no problem with this format overall really, but its not ideal. if we had 3 4 hour boss rounds with damage from your best round only counting it would be better. the old team vs team beat up all challengers for points style war would be even better.
I do however think that top 10 per tier prizes was a great idea and that in tier getting the big prize was a great idea. i think that if people are paying attention to this now, or are told of it around the next boss fight we're going to see a ton more participation. Also I'm sure that people who were so close this time are gonna work their butts off for next boss as well which is great of course.
Now that we understand how this prize system works, I'm willing to bet a lot of seasoned battlers will grind with lower tier pets next time. So in the end, top battlers will still get the best prizes.
It seems kind of counterintutive that you could get better prizes on a lower tier pet because you have less competition. Maybe the thing to do is reserve the Maniacal Core for the top battlers in tiers 10+, and have separate weapons for the lower tiers? Then lower tiered battlers get a weapon they can actually hope to use without having to train for 3 more years, and they don't have to compete directly with high tiered battlers to get it.

I am in class on my phone, so I won't say much, but I will say that, while I enjoyed the prize distibution this time around, I hope it doesn't stay. Knowing what it is means that I can just get myself a T5 pet and have a higher chance of earning myself a core that way.
Secondly, I hope prizes (or point distribution of prize shop) stay based on the pet itself. I'm sorry that you don't want to bother training more than one pet, but the fact of the matter is that you can train multiple pets, you can have different builds for different strategies, and you can delegate your time and battles to maximize rewards is a good thing. Yes, multiple pets allows for you to earn multiple loot drops from staple/unlockable opponents, but I don't think it should be limited there. The fact of the matter is that it seems like drops from those kind lf opponents are nerfed in a way since BAs know that there will be a lot going out.
If battles start to be done in smaller time frames, with only one score sticking, I don't mind the inevitable godly/pseudo-godly given away being limited by person, but if a person wants to use a different pet for each wave, there isn't any good reason that I see to penalize them for that.

I will only battle with my main pet, I care more about doing my best with my strongest pet and competing for the top than I do about just getting the prize. I do think it's probably better to reserve the core for the tiers that can actually use it (t9+?) because why does a t2 pet need a core? I feel like this is trying to include non battlers by giving them battle things they don't necessarily care about.
I really enjoy a break from events, but I suppose it's expected to have something every month. But we don't know that they don't either.
There's a t1 pet that got in the top 10 of that tier with 8 losses. This definitely needs tweaked in the future ._.
I think the new distribution of items wasn't a bad idea but I can see future events being very polluted with seasoned battlers going with lower tiered pets to reduce competition. I can see the good, the bad, and the ugly with this system and I know Subeta's population well enough to think the ugly will be common.
I think a prize shop might be a nice change of pace as well.

There's absolutely 0 shot of me getting top place in my pet's tier if I battle with my battle pet. If I use my t2 pet to grind away at the boss and hit the top slot in t2 fighters, I can use the weapon for my battle pet (who can use it). I don't feel like this argument is valid in that case, as some of us have pets we don't bother training (for now). Plus, the same small set of people are /always/ going to be the top then and the rest of us have 0 chance to ever win one. I mean, now that we all know how it works, our chances are pretty slim anyhow since there are battlers who have low tier (or will have low tier) pets for the next round, but at least its worth a shot for us now. If they restrict it to only the top person per tier from t9 up, that's pretty much the end of all hope.
If this doesn't make sense I'll try to explain better tomorrow, but I'm tired as hell right now.
[edit] A prize shop would be better - with reasonable point distribution for damage done (I do not think the suggested 1k damage per 1 point is fair, since that wouldn't really fit the model for item distribution now, but I'm sure staff could come up with a way to average out how much damage should count towards a point and how many points per item to make it fair).
If it were narrowed down to tiers 9-13, I'd think it would be maybe top 5 from each. Top person in both t12 and t13 were in the top 25 yet they only received one core, so essentially it was only the top place in each tier got a core only for t1-11. I think it makes more sense to give actual good weapons to the higher tier pets who can use them. Someone who is tier 1 doesn't need a tier 11 weapon (tier 9 in this case but cores have vaue because of the t11 genetech combo) because it will take like three years of training and daily BQs to use it. I'm not sure why battles need to be more accomodating to tier 1 pets, because the person is either brand new to battling or does not care about it. Things shouldn't be easier for them to get just because they haven't bothered to spend a week training their pet.
There is room at the top to progress too. Some people are busy, some don't try because they have a core already, some quit. Last gelatin war I came in roughly rank 35 at tier 11 I think. This year, I came in 4th. I have put in a lot of work and effort just because I wanted to do better during wars.
I don't know how a prize shop would differ really unless you got points from the regular challengers too, it might be interesting to have one though.
Personally, I'd rather the boss have four or five waves that last six hours each. However, a better tweak to the system would be to have it so each wave has a different damage count and the final total will be which ever wave you did the best with.
For instance, if you did 500K damage on wave 1, 2.5M damage on wave 2, 2M damage on wave 3, and 0 on the last wave, this would make your score 2.5M damage. This would not only give those in all time zones a fair chance, but would also reduce the need to sit at your computer for 12+ hours a day. Granted, an even better solution would be to have the core released after hitting a fixed amount of damage rather than being given out to only the top x damagers, but I have the feeling they will never want this to happen.

The only problem with the short 'single wave' thing is that it massively squeezes out those with smaller pets who want to go above and beyond. The biggest pets are going to rise to the top if you restrict the timings as they can put through much more damage per hour.
I think you could alleviate this with LONG waves. What if we had 3 16 hours battles, with your best fight contributing? Most people can't sit and put 16 hours into one single, continuous fight. And that's a good thing! It gives people the option to pick and choose what works with their schedule, to an extent, and by making the brackets so long it feels less obligatory to sit there for the whole wave. Or 2 24 hour fights. Most people can't viably sit there for the whole duration of the wave, but that in turn helps level the playing field.
... or am I underestimating the extent which people are willing to go? I dunno. I think it's important to balance those who have strong pets vs those who have slightly weaker pets but are willing to put the hours in. Otherwise we end up with the same batch of winners repeatedly.
I am pretty new to battling, and this is pretty much the first time I've actually done some damage to a boss properly, so I'm mostly here to watch ideas from seasoned battlers re: waves and prizes, but I do have one major complaint.
With respect to the boss waves, the timing for the second wave was announced clearly and where everyone could see, which was great! So why not the first wave?
I battled through the entire second wave, and I'd have been perfectly willing to set a clock for the first and participate, but it hit and was defeated entirely while I was sleeping. So while I love that the second wave was announced, it gave people who were naturally awake at the time a great advantage.
In the future, I hope either all or no waves of boss battles have a declared begin time. (I vote all, obviously!)
I also think that tier 12 needs to be divided to 2 different groups. early tier 12 is too weak and can't really compete against a 5k+ on each stat pet. The gap and difference in the damage per move is huge! I fought less and someone with 3.5k stats tier 12 fought more than me and barely reached my damage..
.. or am I underestimating the extent which people are willing to go
Haha of course. I think there's always going to be a small contingent who will put the hours in and place top regardless of circumstances. I can't really think of a fair way to give those smaller pets a chance to excel with a small time scale, though.
I'd enjoy a reward shop... or the island war style format. Although, I completely missed this year's boss battle and also some of the higher ranked opponents. I know you can't cater for everyone, but I was away from Friday - Sunday and am pretty much every weekend. So, I'd be one of the people who'd appreciate the waves being a bit more flexible and not necessarily over just a weekend. Just so that I could actually feel like all my training has been worth it, to get a shot at actually competing in fun battle events.
I believe staff implemented the tiered prizes specifically to shut up the low tier battlers who complain every battle event about how unfair it is that they don't get a chance at the bigger weapons. It's almost as if they don't care about the battling itself, and just want a payday from winning a grand prize... Obviously, the core is a very exclusive item. Giving it out to people with low tiers seems somewhat odd, and as seen in previous posts, open to abuse. I don't really have a solution that will make everyone happy. Perhaps the core should've been limited to the top 25 battlers overall, and a different prize could've been given out to the top from every tier. (It would be fairer to the low tiers, who are so far away from being able to use the core, that they may as well sell it.)
I'm annoyed at the timeline for the final battle. I was out with friends on Saturday, and by the time I got back and was able to get online, the first wave was nearly over. Likewise, when I got up in the morning, the second wave was nearly over. Just seems kind of silly, no?
I don't think I support super long waves, but waves spread out over more days would probably be nice. (Because yeah, there are individuals who will literally power through the entire thing. Which then prompts everyone else to vocally express how unfair life is.
I also am in favor of unlimited gelatins within each wave. Doesn't really make sense to have capped amounts and then have people miss out. Or, you could make the opponents available for a set number of days. (So, 2 or 3 days of available minis, all the way up to a day of the turtles, and a day of wizards.) That way, people could participate no matter what time zone they were in. Announce it one or two days before, and people can prepare in their desired fashions.
