I think many bigger battlers are thinking that way now... but of course, if they decide to focus on a lower tier instead of tier 12/13, doesn't that open up more prize spaces in the higher tiers, and spread battlers out over a few different lower tiers?
Or, if they decide to split their time between one high-tier and one low-tier pet, doesn't that mean that someone in either tier who puts all of their time into a single pet will pass the player whose focus is split? It's going to require some thought and strategy, in any case.
Quite simply, because the BAs have no idea how many people are going to participate or how much damage you're going to do. For example, I think the cutoff for top 25 (7.5 mil damage) was something like four times as much damage as it was during the last war, which no one could have accurately predicted. We decide on damage cutoffs for each prize once we see the final list.
(And even if we could tell you how much damage to aim for, we couldn't keep a running tally of your damage or keep up a real-time ranked list without killing the site, so you wouldn't know when to stop anyway.)
The problem with that is that people in lower tiers wouldn't win anything. One of the things we promised when we became battle admins was that battling would be fun and profitable for all battlers, not just the high-tier players who'd been here forever.
Yeah, we agree, and will likely do something like this next time. However:
This is definitely a concern when it comes to the tiered-by-damage-dealt prizes. (A prize shop will likely never happen for a gelatin war; they are not plots or large events and we do not have enough prizes for a shop.)
Everyone cares about things they can sell.
It'll be announced well in advance next time, as will the scoring method! (We'll also make it clear that some of the prizes will be given out to the top battlers in each tier. I mentioned that in the battle chat thread and the news comments this year, but that wasn't visible enough.)
Thanks! That's what we were going for. We don't feel that one should be able to complete all of the achievements in a single year. The gelatins will always attack in limited numbers, although we'll continue to monitor them to make sure that the breaks between waves aren't too long and that we cover all of the time zones.
I don't read any drama sites or blogs. I'd rather stick to reading constructive criticism here.
The Gelatin War is a little event we (try to) do once a year. It's never going to be like a big plot with a prize shop or a bunch of new loot drawn as top prizes for different tiers. The draw of it (from a staff perspective) is that it won't take up much of the artists' time -- they do a couple of new prizes for each gelatin and then a couple of new Hydragellos prizes, and that's about it.
