I love the colors, the wings and the shading of the proposed revamp but there are also things that I don't like:
The new wings are very luscious and beautifully detailed and I really like the new composition of the tail. However the pose is not as dynamic as it used to be and resembles me of the same pose Kumos already has. Also in my opinion the muzzle could be a bit more pointier and slender adding some more curves to it. Maybe it could be a little shorter too like in the older art? Otherwise I think it's great! Especially love the puffy looking chest and soft the tuft of fur on its head, makes me want to ruffle it a little. >vo
For the most part, I love it. However, there is something wrong with its muzzle.it just doesn't look right. The only other thing I dislike is the small patch of shading on its belly between both its legs. The color of the sharing looks wrong.
Overall, I really like the new revamp, but I have to agree with a lot of the other users: I think the muzzle looks too flat and I would like for the montre to still have that slightly humped over kind of look!
The new revamp is far better in terms of quality, but I really think the pose is too different - the personality in the old pose came through really clearly, and the new one it just...doesn't.
Personally, I like the new design, but the muzzle does seem a little flat. If it were given a little more definition/length, it would add a lot more of the original slyness to the new design. The ears could be a little less rounded at the bottom too! Other than that, love it! It really gives dimension and life to an old (and well loved) design!
Previously Reannarox!
Somehow I prefer color scheme for the feather on the current montre's tail than on the revamped one. Other than that, the revamped montre looks better in design.
I really love the new one. The wings, the anatomy of the legs, the shading, it's just all a significant improvement.
I think I do see one small issue. The line of the belly is a bit weird. If you continue the line of the chest down behind his right leg as it is, it makes it really weird to connect to his lower belly. If that makes any sense. I think if you make the in dip of the chest a little less extreme it'll match up a little better.
Revamp looks more realistic, but a bit bland too. There isn't much that makes it stand out. The banding on the paw and tail could be lighter to match the one across the eyes. Also, I'd want to see thinner ears and a longer tail like in the old art.
Looks a tad "generic" and maybe a tad too cartoony, front leg closest to us also looks kinda short and like it doesn't reach the ground like it's supposed to and there's something about the head that dose't quite fit, maybe because it doesn't have the same down arc on the muzzle from the old one. The new one is basically a blunt triangle. Could use a sharper look and maybe a resizing.
I love the new art! The wings are beautifully detailed and he overall looks more fluffy, really great. The only downside I can think of is that I prefer the feathers in the "old" image, but i'll manage :)
Reposting my comment from the news post because apparently I can't read:
I think the art is certainly an improvement, but it could use some tweaking:
The silhouette of the skull moves in a smooth line from forehead to snout and the nose is positioned very low in a way that is really reminiscent of a Bull Terrier - which seems a weird change from a pet that had a strong fox vibe before, and a weird choice for a sad, soulful pet. The ears are pointing in two different directions, which I know is possible for a lot of animals, but seems an odd choice for a 'resting' pose. I think we should be able to see some of the ear fluff on the far ear. I dislike the scruffy fur on the head being moulded into a more obviously cartoony 'quiff'. The pose is very upright, with its chest puffed out and all the paws point neatly forward; I preferred the old one's more characterful sad, stoop-shouldered, splay-footed pose.
On the other hand: The wings look great

The art is obviously much better in the new one, but I like the pose and general feeling of the old one much better. The old montre is chill and mysterious, but the new one seems really stiff. There was a suggestion on this thread to make its back hunched like the original montre, and I think that would work well to get rid of the rigid pose!
The muzzle looks weird to me, too.
tl;dr: The old one has character the new one lacks.
Anyway, I'll be interested to see how this develops. Thanks. :)
I voted for the top one with the tail lowered because it is more detailed, fuller, I like the broader furry looking chest, the fluffy wings and tail. But I like the fluffy ears & the feathers on the lower one,as others have just said, I like the slinky 'foxyness' of the old one, the character and overall shape, the new one looks like a new stuffed toy,but the older one looks like it could be an actual wild animal. I dont know why, but Im liking more old school art recently, some of the older items and clothing is appealing somehow, maybe its just nostalgia kicking in.
The eyes/snout look very odd to me but I think the eyes would look fine without the flat snout/muzzle. I really really do not think a flat snout is NOT a good look for this pet!
Aside from that very nice improvement! The shadows look a little to pink around the tummy I think it shows obviously because of the cream colors, It would probably make the arid one to pink for peoples taste. But I don't mind personally.
I love the shadowing of the fur on the tail! I wish you could see the sdame kind of fur tenxture on the chest, it looks very flat in comparison. The shadows on the hind leg seem a little strange? I think where the hind leg meets the paw on the ground, it seems almost like its trying to look like longer fur? Idk it looks kinda confusing maybe its just to busy with the shadow from the wing as well.

The art is definitely improved but it's got a very flat or just perfect line sloped face. I've always felt that way about the montre though. Their face anatomy just is bizarre as a species (nothing to do with the artist)
But the nose is also a little too small and too far down, that's where a mouth would be if montre had mouths. With their nose their it makes their muzzle look a lot less 3d.
The art is very nice. However, the pose does look very stiff. The hunched over position of the current pet has more character to it, imo. Also, the muzzle is off (bull terrier-ish), and the face is nowhere near full/fluffy enough. Looks like a totally different species almost, with that thinner face. Definitely prefer the fluffy face.
[edit]ETA, because I was in a hurry earlier. I wanted to mention that I LOVE the wing. The detail is beautiful, and such a huge improvement on the old one. And one more critique. Looking closer now, the eyes on the old art seem to be looking a specific direction, off to the side. But on the new art, besides lacking dimension, which doesn't bother me too bad, the eyes seem a bit...derpy. Like on the phugs. Might correct itself with a nosejob..not sure.
The muzzle definitely bothers me. It's so straight. The eyes could be enlarged a bit as well.
I think the head looks awfully kumos-like. It needs to be wider, with a shorter snout, and smaller ears. The post feels a little stiff -- maybe turning one of the paws outward would help, and curving the back a bit? But I love most of it! The wings and tail especially.
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
