Where will we keep our collections, hoards, items for achievements, and our miscellaneous stuff if shop/gallery/inventory/vault limits are going to be implemented?

I'll die laughing if anyone brings up the Subeta is trying to discourage hoarding point.

No. No. Did I say NO? Oh my god why gallery limit?!

I hate vaults so much. They're just impractical compared to galleries for holding things, which are much easier to filter and categorise (I have multiple galleries for multiple things). And I hate inventory limits. I hate when I lose my gold account and can only hold 100, which is horrendous. And I spill over 250 almost daily.

I guess when I think of Keith saying they'd 'remove' vaults, I picture a more dynamic transition between inventory and 'new vaults'; say it's all the 'inventory', but you have an 'active' tab and an 'inactive' tab with the flexibility to easily move from one to the other. Something like that would be better than the clunky system we have at the moment. The sorting options in the vault, currently, are appalling. The best thing about them at the moment, which I'd love to see implemented more freely, is you can check all on the page and move the items freely around your account. If this was incorporated elsewhere I'd be happy to see them go.

Has the idea. We wouldn't be "getting rid of vaults" but instead turning inventory into something of a combination of the two, with the sorting and searching. I can't really make a mockup of this right now, but I imagine two tabs on the inventory page. One for your inventory (with a hard limit) and the other for your vault. In both of these, when you click an item you get all the options right there instead of moving to another page. Lots more icons instead of giant lists of text :).

Mostly that was an example of how we could get rid of a feature that just doesn't need to be a separate page, or something that people need to navigate to get to. Another example would be all of the ways to send gifts to people. Why isnt' there just a 'send gift' button on user profiles, and then you choose the type (with trees being an option during Luminaire).

Will there be hard limits on the "vault" tab since there will be for the "inventory tab" (like there is now) and shops/galleries? Thank you for making it easier to organize our things. :)

As someone who likes to have everything put away neat and not in my face all the time, having vaults vanish into an extended inventory makes me feel icky and nervous. I like hiding everything away and not having clutter in my inventory :X

Props on the twitter, but I will always be adamant that news like this belongs here on site where it is easily found, not banished to some social media that lets be honest a lot of older people really hate ;)

My question is, would we still be able to organize into categories like we do now in our vault? Because I have many of them to keep my hundreds of vault items somewhat clean/organized. If so, then I suppose this could be a good idea. But, if not, I'm not sure I'd like the change.

Yeah, the problem is that it's just a lot easier to have a conversation via twitter / respond to requests all of the time, when making a forum post for something means that you're looking for an extended discussion, which I'm not necessarily always looking for. It also gives people a place to tweet at me if they have a question / request / whatever, instead of it getting lost on the forums.

And no, there wouldn't be any limits on the vaults. I don't want to get too weighed down on this idea right now because it was just an example :).

That makes sense for the feedback collection and bouncing back ideas. Hopefully when you've decided on a course of action though we could get an announcement forum post (seriously underused feature that I and I know many others really do appreciate when used!) to that effect.

That's comforting, as long as I don't have to look at all however many thousand things of junk I have shoved in my vault right now on a regular basis I can live with it haha

Just want to add that I don't think most of us were aware that things like the new vending machines were actually the new site coding. If a nice news post would have been made letting us know that one day we aren't going to log onto a brand new site all at once, and instead it's going to come in bits a pieces, we would have been a bit more understanding. I also think you should make a NEW thread in general, and maybe keep it updated occasionally with things like "Right now I"m focusing on changing the way that cults work" or "right now I've scrapped the bubble look of the new forums. But don't worry! The code will still work, the aesthetics will be tweaked though." or "we brought on a new freelancer who's going to start looking into some of the games to see if they can be tweak/scrapped/redone/etc". Things like that. It really does reassure us that, while it may be all over the place, you're still doing what you can to piece it together as seamlessly as possible.

Also, THANK YOU for getting rid of the bubble look. I can put away the eye bleach now. :P

Coming back now that I can to read all the new things! All the ideas so far look very promising and exciting. ^_^ I do hate the way vaults are right now, as much as we have categories they don't work all too well and tbh I just hate digging for things in my vault. I've started using a gallery for event extras so I don't have to deal with it :/ Random, but while I still do love my smail, the one idea from the new site that I loved was the instant chat with friends (even if without history), but that's because I'm silly and chatty and not all my friends use the same IM and sometimes it's awkward and unnecessary to ask people for their offsite contacts. Like when you're plotting a giftbomb for someone's birthday. But there was also the clique concern in this so I digress~

I LOVE the idea of a subeta twitter account! While I do find livechats cool like everyone else, there's the timezones/work issue and those who can be online normally get so excited that OMG WE GET TO TALK TO KEITH LETS ASK ALL THE THINGS HOW WAS THAT BRIT CONCERT -- so sometimes we get swamped with silly or repetitive questions. I normally check the FB page every now and then, but that feels more like "news" than actual Q&A, it'll be awesome to have a place to direct relevant questions as soon as they pop on our minds.

The 'off with the bobbles' idea is good, tbh I think people could have some sort of sought-after consumable prize that wouldn't have to be a weapon or wearable (although redeemable wigs are also consumable in a way) to follow in with the discount codes. The codes themselves are nice, but I even know of people who didn't care about them as their csc is mostly for CWs, so -shrugs- I'm glad more different alternatives are looked into!

I think this is a great idea. We have a similar thread on Transformice that our admins periodically update what they're working on to keep us informed. It's staff-only over there, but I think a public one (as in, public for everyone to see, but staff posting only) for Subeta would be great, provided it's actually used regularly and not forgotten about. I mean, you wouldn't have to tell us in complete detail what's going on, but even little things like "Working on setting up the Luminaire event" or "Recoding the ______" or blah, blah, blah would be really reassuring. It would keep the userbase from being left in the dark for months about things we were expecting years ago and having to dust off the pitchforks every time we're wondering what the hell is going on.

I think there should be more going on in the Announcements forum. An official recode update topic would be great. A chat would the programmers thread would also be appreciated.

I think the problem with, say, an 'Official Recode Topic' is that it creates expectation. Which is not necessary going to be fulfilled on Subeta, I have learnt. There will always be roadblocks and problems and setbacks and delays. Which is okay; I'm sure everyone who's ever used a computer knows that they never behave when you want them to. Some additional information would of course be appreciated, but the programming team here is small. And then you have the times when they're working on other stuff: like for events. People are going to question what the staff are up to, 'they haven't updated the topic in weeks!'. I just see it creating problems. Keith's presence in this thread has obviously been a good thing though, so it's not to say I don't think there's room for improvement. But I don't know if a thread which we expect to be routinely updated (and are disappointed when it isn't) is the right track to go down.

Now we know we aren't getting a 'big recode' and instead slowly working on smaller improvements; I think it'd be good to compile a list of 'small' quality of life improvements which would make using the site more enjoyable. As a battler, the 'scroll library' and 'multiple default weapon sets' are ongoing suggestions which would make a big difference to anyone using more than one pet to battle (not an amazing example as staff are aware of this, but you get the point). Whether or not it's a 'small' task is another matter I guess, but a comprehensive list of 'tweaks' users wouldl ike to see to make the site more playable would be good, I think, so the userbase and staff are on similar wavelengths as to our priorities.

Maybe a topic that's more like the lockable stickies that only staff can update would work? Like a recode FAQ of sorts, with pertinent info from and whoever else, compiled all in one place and posted on as needed. Even little updates like every two months or so would be nice. Something like the random screen-caps that have been shown perhaps? has said a ton of important things lately, and people are already whining that this All done please lock board thank you is just idle complaining because of everything that he said on this topic here. The problem is, not everyone can read everything important from staff in the forums at all times. These are just my thoughts on how to keep site information from getting buried in the forums.

That could be a pretty good thing, actually. During EPICon I know there were tons of posts made about little changes that would make each new game better or more fun. I've thought more than once about compiling all of those suggestions into one thread. Anyhow, it could be pretty similar to the what do you think needs revamping thread.

Yea, I have to agree. While I think it is nice to have the Twitter... I don't use it and I don't think I should have to be forced to use a site that I hate to get news about Subeta stuff.

I agree and think this would be a really good middle ground! I don't think it would create expectation... and I would rather be able to easily find these things instead of coming across them in Keith's posts when browsing the forums. :| Honestly, this would have been a good use of the scrapped journal feature.

The problem is if we make a lockable thread that only we update - People don't look. And if it's in the forums in general it becomes a lot more of a discussion than I'm really looking for with the posts I'm making on twitter. They're more of a "status update" / this is what I've just done and sometimes looking for feedback posts.

I'll look and see if there is a way we can incorporate maybe an "off news" news page that you can opt in/out of that has the same information, or perhaps if I could make a page where my twitter feed (and if other people make twitters!) goes to, something like the tracker this fan site built for WoW developers making posts :).

This will be much much easier once we have the new forums (which I'm now working on implementing with the current layout because of the scraping of the 'new' layout) which have the indication of "staff posts" vs non staff posts.
