After much discussion amongst themselves, the dragons have announced that they would henceforth prefer to be referred to as rreigns to better distinguish themselves from the plethora of other dragon species on Subeta. One of Subeta's most famous rreign, <a href="/pets/Prototype%20CURIE">Curie</a>, has informed us that the name is pronounced much like our word rain with a guttural growl-like sound at the beginning.

Despite the suggestive nature of the word ''prefer,'' they would also like to include that anyone choosing not to respect their wishes does so at their own risk of being summarily fried and devoured by a more sensitive member of their species! :o

Man... This really screws up my collections now... Why'd you have to change the Chinese-styled dragon-themed items? I can understand if it's all the Dragon (pet) related ones, but I notice oddly enough that the Zodiac Dragon Spirit wasn't changed at all. Seriously, just change the items that are related to the pets, not the minions themselves!

odd little name change. from otter to ontra made sense, as well as from turdle to chelon. but from dragon to rreign? where did this come from??? methinks the same place that decided that halloween should be called morostide...

Well, so much for the noble Dragon. I actually liked the original name. This new name doesn't sound Draconic at all, no matter how much you roll the R's and growl.

I don't really mind the species name either way, but I have to admit I'm kind of irritated at the change of the Red Dragon item to Red Rreignling.

Seriously, what were you guys THINKING with that? They're Asian-style dragons; rreigns are European. If you were going to rename any of the minions, the Ice Dragon would have made more sense; at least those look like a related species.

OK I AM MORE FINE WITH IT NOW. it's better than an unpronounceable name made up of too many consonants and unneeded apostrophes, anyway! and it makes sense...it could be a lot worse, I suppose.

I don't know why so many people are peeved by the lowercase name thing. It makes a species name sound more like a species name instead of a title.

Although, I would have spelled rreign differently if it were up to me.

Indeed it's German g So I had to learn different rules for capitalized English words first and I still make mistakes. In this case it's a game and if the staff want them to be rreigns and not Rreigns we can't say it's wrong, it's a fantasy world in first place and real life rules don't necessarily apply. But still it might look weird.

Aicona, is your native language German?

That would have to be my guess.

Also, this brings up a good point. It really bothers me how spotty the capitalization rule is around the site, as far as species names.

Some are, some aren't. Are we dealing with Bengal Tigers or just cats here? How specific are these species names? Enough to be proper nouns? If so, it should be Rreigns.... and I think that makes the double are look even sillier.

Why not just Reign?

Just as a little "F.Y.I." note, English (the language) is a proper adjective (derived from a proper noun), and therefore capitalized. (Not trying to be mean, just really trying to help )

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Aicona

I also have to admit that this non-capitalized-stuff looks weird to me, but this might be because in my language ALL nouns do have a capitalized first letter. So it's even weirder when I expect this in english and it's not there. Oh well. Lol.

Well you can't really call this pet a "Dragon" and expect it to be easily distinguishable. When you think of a dragon, I'm sure this pet is not what first comes to mind.

Seriously. A name change isn't going to affect anything. They are still the same design. It won't even affect the names you've chosen for them. Move on peoples. Stop fighting, goodness.

I have to agree. The way this is spelled just looks like no one used spell check. Dragon wasn't very original, but I mean come on, can't we do just a little bit better? Perhaps have a name suggestion contest where 5 or so are picked and then voted on if you guys are having such a hard time thinking up something original. Once this news post is lost to the archives, new players will probably just assume is a mistype, have a titter, and go on. Is that how the dragons want to be thought of? As a mistype? I think not.

Hmm the name...well I dont like it at all. Of course it is more special than Dragon since we have more than one species looking like a dragon. But this welsh influence or however you are calling this double rr grrowl is awful. It looks awful, it sounds awful, it does not fit to the species, it really appears like a mispelling. Its just strange. Some people posted much better name suggestions during this discussion. And excuse me for my by whatever influenced non capitalized spelling mistakes.

curses :< pressed the button to soon

Adding a different letter in a preexisting word just shows lack of imagination. Oh and not to mention now that its not going to be capital in the item descriptions and stuff, people are just going to think they are talking about the word reign, as in 'period of time a person serves as a monarch or pope' and misspelled it rather then a species.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Baby_Succubus

<quote>"How can you misspell a word you made up, Noir? Rreign and reign are NOT the same word/thing, just like a dillema and a dilemma aren't."</quote>

LAWL they did not make up the word rreign, they just misspelled reign XD Its not like they came up a name and then noticed 'omg this is spelled like reign but with 2 r's!'. All the did was take reign and in a sad attempt to make it 'cool' and 'original' added another r. And thank you for providing another example of the 'creative teams' lack of originality. Adding a different letter in a preexisting word

While this is just my opinion, and of which I doubt I'll change anyone else's with mine, but it seems rather odd that a group of organisms that had enough of a higher thought process to organize, rationalize, and decided as a group to change their name would do so in a way to make them seem less proper. It just doesn't make much sense in my brain that something capable of doing all that would decide that their name isn't important enough to have a capitalized letter at the front of it.

Again, just my way of thinking.

I like the new name, and as a grammar nazi and English tutor, I can safely say that the capitalization thing is being blown way out of proportion. Proper names (like Bob) are capitalized, common names (like cat) are not. Furthermore, while I absolutely love the staff's willingness to ask us the users our opinions on changes that are made around the site, it is unreasonable to expect that we be consulted about everything. I would have welcomed a poll, but find it unnecessary and am not the least bit bent out of shape about not having one available. In addition, I'm glad that discussions like these are allowed, silencing dissent is rarely done here and it's one of the things I value about this site. love you GUYZ <3 hehe

The double R's, and indeed the new name itself, were inspired by Welsh-- the Welsh Dragon, Y Ddraig Goch, to be precise.

bawwww, you don't like the name change? baww, too bad - seems it is staying. c; Now, seriously. I like THIS name rather than 'dragon', I mean, come on, 'dragon' is childish - which this site really /isn't/ for children. Rather, teenagers-adult. So please, act your age. Its not like you don't get to pick its name when you adopt one, i mean really, the only place the name change will be noted are the items and a little spot on your pet profile. Not that big of a deal.
