Hah, freaking win. I love it, it's so much better than the old, if the lasirus had looked like this when I first joined, I might have gotten one. If I get another gold account though, who knows? But the wings could use more fingers, to both look better and be more anatomically correct, but then they might cover up those cute little toes... Whatever, it still looks 100% better than the original.

I love it, a lot. I'd just suggest redrawing the wings, to be more anatomically proportionate. They're far too thin and small to be able to hold that body up in the air. BUT I love the body and everything else, it's just gorgeous.

I have to say if you used Zohkaro's redlines as the Lasirus revamp, I'd actually get one.
This pet looks rather skinny in the face, and I know I'm probably going to get bombarded with people saying that it doesn't look skinny, but meh.
Anyway, I too miss the old snarl and the evilness, I know I know, thats what "special" colors are for....
But really, each pet should have its own personality and I believe this one should have a bit more of an attitude or flare in its facial expression.
It is a big improvement over the older one.... yet it kind of lost that fierce factor, but its very nice and overall I'll most likely vote for it.
Keep the revamps coming!

I like it. The only thing that bugs me is that the tuft of fur/hair on the tail makes it look a TAD too feminine for me. I have problems seeing it as a male pet.

Of course there are still going to be basic â€œthis is cuteâ€ or â€œthat looks kind of evilâ€ elements involved in revamps, but the point is that the common versions no longer overwhelm you with OMG ITâ€™S SO EVIL AND DERANGED or AWW ITâ€™S SO CUTE I COULD VOMIT MY SPLEEN UP! Notice how most recent revamps such as the Ontra, Feli, Mallarchy, Serpenth, and Kora are either completely devoid of expression or are generally neutral except for a small smile. As for the potion thing... yes, Chibi Potions are available for a relatively cheap price. But many of the pet species that many people think of as being â€œdarker" (Mortiking, Lasirus, Charlie, Darkonite, Harvester) have chibi versions that STILL look like they're going to rip your face off. As for Angelic Potions... I really don't see that as a valid comparison, considering they cost at least three or four times what Darkmatter, Bloodred, Graveyard, and Nightmare Potions do. It doesnâ€™t translate into a viable option for the casual Subeta user.

Nestly: I promise you will have your snarling freaky killer bat with some of the darker colors. You have to understand that, like Jag said, the Lasirus is seriously one of the least popular pets, (I actually saw a rating thing once and it was the least liked, right after the Turdle.) so a change is in order. And as the majority of users like it better according to the poll, those who still like the old one should come to get used to the changes in time, or just go with a scary special color. (I actually have already made changes with the common expression and hopefully it will help!)

(I didn't know you had the Lasirus before Jag! xD Heheh. Seems like this dude got tossed around as much as the Turd.)

Why, you ask? Because if we did release another species like that, users would complain about how similar to the Lasirus it is. Also, having been the Lasirus artist for a long while, I can tell you how unmotivating it it for the Artist to have to draw a color for an unloved species. I was, myself, thrown off each time DNA asked me more Lasirus colors (which I escaped by throwing the Lsirus at various people, like Arbor, Centch and now Nestly), because you KNOW when it's going to be release, not many people will care about it -because it's a lasirus-. No matter how many hours you've spent on it.
While I'm aware some users actually DO like the old Lasirus better (talking about people who HAVE ONE), you have to understand the old Lasirus wasn't an appeal to enough of the population of Subeta. It's seriously unmotivating to draw 'em, otherwise. :/

In that case the basic forms of a number of pets need to be revamped because they aren't neutral.

Warador - looks aggressive, is holding a staff like a weapon and has a skull emblem on its hat

Ruffie - an adorable little puppy which looks happy

Charlie - looks aggressive

Malticorn - looks very cross

Harvester - a ragged robe, red scythe, glowing eyes and graveyard coloured hands make it difficult for people to think it could be a farm labourer off to cut corn rather than a death figure.

Chai - incredibly cute and appealing

Mallarcy - a really happy little ducklike bird.

Is the proposed Lasirus revamp really neutral enough if a lot of people are calling it 'cute'? There's even been a pretty and a couple of adorables used to describe it.

I don't mind the new pose or a thinner face although that ear looks a bit odd to me as it does to a lot of other people. I'm just feeling a bit grumpy at being told it's supposed to be more neutral when dozens of people are going "Awww - it's cute and adorable."

One could also say that the Angelic and Chibi potions are there for a reason - to make scary pets look cute and adorable and already cute and adorable pets look even more cute and adorable.

We weren't given previews of what the revamped version will look like in Graveyard, BR and Nightmare. People who have spent a lot of SP on the expensive Graveyard and BR potions just have to live in hope because we only get a vote on the basic versions of pets and have to accept what we're given when it comes to the other colours. In an earlier post Nestly says "The Galactic Lasirus is probably the only special color that won't get revamped; at least not any time soon. (Though Bloodred, Graveyard, Chibi etc. will!)" The Chibi Lasirus looks even scarier than the current basic one - is it going to stay scary or will it be turned into a "small, cute, child-like form" as described by one web definition of the word? At least the Chibi potion is only 650K if Chibi Lasirus owners find scary has been turned into cute.

BEST. REVAMP. EVER. Nestly is pretty much my favorite person on the entire planet right now. :'D Bats have always been one of my favorite animals, but I always gave the Lasirus species a wide berth because the old version looked like a scraggly winged rat fetus. The new facial structure and expression are divine, and the leg-stripes give an appreciated flair to an otherwise plain color scheme. I sincerely hope you end up keeping the new-and-improved expression despite all the pissing and moaning going on in here (it retains enough of its fierce/evilness that it stays true to its predecessor, and yet it also manages to stay neutral enough to conform to Subeta's newly adopted policy of not "forcing" personalities onto pets. Graveyard, Bloodred, and Nightmare Potions exist for a reason, guys).

I said that it was based on a vampire bat and that comes across in two of the item descriptions. I've already mentioned 'My Life As A Blood Drinker' (the book with a BR Lasirus pic on the cover) and here is another -

All discussion of the style and 'mood' of the proposed revamp aside, the version we've got here has a glaring anatomical error in it- I'm surprised no one seems to have pointed it out yet.

The structure of a real bat's wing is fairly analogous to a human's arm and hand (their taxonomic order's name even means 'handwing')- the webbing of the patagium is stretched between the 'finger' bones and between the fifth finger and the sides of the body. The new Lasirus seems to have lost a finger in the revamp and gained a strange fingerlike appendage on its elbow. While the Lasirus is of course an imaginary animal and not a real bat, and can easily have less (or more) fingers than its natural counterpart, the wing structure in the version uploaded here looks really, seriously unnatural and not particularly flight-capable.

I think I'd still like the old version best either way, but the elbow-finger is pushing this from a slight preference in one direction to a point where I find it hard not to hate the new one. It's such a basic anatomic detail (and it would be so easy to correct!) that it just viscerally bugs me to the point where I can't pay proper attention to the rest of the design.

It looks too much like a marsupial for my tastes. :/ It's okay, I just wish it was more bat-like. Yes, I realize that it is a fictional creature on a website, but because it is based off of a bat, I think that the anatomy should at least be correct to the actual animal. At least the big head is gone; that was a good change.

From the past few revamps, I think the artists are having a serious problem with sticking to the original mood the pets had. The Lasirus was obviously a Vampire bat, not a Fruit bat. And the special mortikings used to look Noble. Now they look rabid and as if they should be sedated. I really wish the Moods could be absorbed before trying to redraw them. Let your mark be your Art work, not your own 'special twists.'

The original Lasirus was based on the vampire bat. There's even a book on the site called 'My Life As A Blood Drinker' which has a pic of a BR Lasirus on the cover. This item isn't going to fit a new version which looks more like a fruit bat so, hopefully, the revamped BR Lasirus will still make people think of vampires.

I'm not sure if this is the right code for posting images in the news or not but...

Basically, it is as it appears in the redline. I'm not very clear on bat anatomy, but, I think that would make it look a BIT better. Over all it is a lot better than the origonal as far as colouring and shading goes. Although, it has lost quite a bit of character, I can see a grin on its face, maybe that would help bring some of the character back?
Cheeks should come out just a few pixels more, maybe not "fluffed" up like my version is, but thats a part of habbit with anything with fur now. ..Tail fluff could use a bit of a fluff up.
Lately I noticed a few new colours/redraws being a little cubby arround the middle they should excersize more!
I somewhat dislike how it has a teeny bit of fur on the head, it makes them look like they are just growing fur or loosing it. o: And perhaps longing that little bit would help some of the personality come back as well. x_x
Uhh, thats about it, every other minor thing is pretty well made obvious by the redline.
Its really nice other than those few flaws, if fixed, I'll probably be sending my vote down its way.

another point, after I looked at it again... I do think the wings should be bigger, those wings dont look like it would hold him airborne for long.

I also love that you guys shrunk the head. The other head was unnaturally large lol.

I think its awesome. Its much more flying fox like, and looks more realistic, not as flat as the original.

For all those saying it doesnt look mean... it still has that little evil glint in its eyes, and if you want mean, I'm sure the BR and Nightmare versions will be freaky lol.

I'm amused by all the people saying the new version "still looks evil". I didn't think the old one looked "evil" necessarily, just intense. Which this one does not. Also amusing are all the critical comments listing this or that wrong with it, which I don't see at all. My only issue is that both the pose and the expression are just sort of blah. Pose/expression were quite intense before, if a revamped revamp could be done giving it a bit more character, it would be great. But we'll have to wait and see what the other colours will look like. This one is the basic version after all...

I love it! I always feel bad for the artists though because people always criticize them. And it's like if you don't like the new one then vote for the old one. The artist already made it and just cause you don't like it or it's ear is just half an inch off what you wanted doesn't mean you complain complain complain. Like I said If you don't like it don't vote for it. I think it's nice

I agree with what MissXami said. Some players will have adopted the Lasirus because it looked evil and savage - I know I did.

Why not introduce this new design as a new pet species? People who like cute and appealing could have it while those who prefer evil and savage could keep the old one.

Yes but when you're revamping a pet that already looks evil, you'd think you'd want to redo it so it keeps close to the feel of the original pet, hmm?

I really love the revamp, guys!

I love bats, but I wasn't all that fond of the last version because I thought he looked small, shriveled and maybe even somewhat malicious and scary.

The new one is quiet an improvement. I adore the new design on the tail and the inside of the ears. The better angle on the feet and the far more mature looking face is also a plus.

You've changed the creepy little gnome into quiet the confident, mature looking pet! I might have to get one of these, now!

-snorts- What really amazes me is not what people are saying about the revamped picture and not the previous picture. Things like 'Fugly' and 'ugly' and whatnot, when it was done by another subeta artist, either still working here, quit, or fired, then we're told to respect the artists. Really, I'd hate to become an artist, because people turn on ou the second things you drew are revamped, or so it seems. It's not like someone pulled it out of the air; the old lasirus had to come from an artist somewhere, you know? Constructive critisism isn't a huge insults to artists, but calling their art ugly is, so who is in the wrong here? The people who dislike and give critisism, or the people who do like it and insult the work of the artist who's picture is being revamped?

the more i look at it, the more the shoulder facing us bothers me. it's connecting point is a bit thin/weak, for a flying or nonflying animal. like it would snap right off if used. and the membrane attaches way too high

this is strictly the biology major in me speaking, details to improve the animal's overall structure

this is the pencil artist in me struggling with a mouse ><

i hope these are actually helpful. if you think i'm just a stuffy biologist, that's fine too
