As a special addition, there is also an Art Contest for this ball! Click here to view. This contest will also continue for a week after the ball has ended.
Please note that this term's theme is Halloween. The professors have tried their hand at some Muggle customs, and are encouraging all to come down to the ball dressed in costume. It is not required, however.
The Great Hall had been decorated in a palette of black and orange. Black tapestries hung on the walls, covering the usual stone. The long tables and the staff table were removed from the hall, and a dance floor and stage were set at the far back. Floating jack-o-lanterns hovered in the air above the dance floor, replacing the usual candles. The stage itself was plain with a microphone and a few seats for the musicians, who were currently absent. Behind the stage stood four tall, black metal pillars. The pillars were enchanted to give off a faint orange glow. Fake spider webs clung to the bottoms of the round tables situated down the sides of the hall, and black velvet lined the tops of the tables. Tarnished gold candelabra centerpieces sat in the middles of the tables, held in place by disembodied hands.
Tarot card decks, crystal balls, pieces of wood with runes painted on their faces, and other divination tools sat on a table towards the front of the hall. A sign sat among the devices: FOR FUN – NOT FOR SCHOOL WORK.
The refreshment table sat beside this table, with pumpkin juice, both cold and hot apple cider, and a cauldron with a bubbling green liquid labeled “Witch’s Brew.” A bowl with fake eyeballs that looked convincingly real sat beside the cauldron. On a silver tray sat various treats: cookies that looked like real fingers, bonbons that looked like vampire bats, and marshmallows charmed to be translucent like ghosts, and other nibbles that looked like they might’ve actually been nibbled off something. A few silver trays were charmed to hover around the Great Hall with other treats and trifles.
Outside the oak doors on the grounds were thousands of pumpkins of all sizes, colors, and shapes. A few of the long tables from the Great Hall were moved out onto the grounds and supplied with pumpkin carving knives, scoops, paint, paintbrushes, pipe-cleaners, glue, and other various crafting supplies. A sign stood a few feet from the first table:
Along the edges of the pumpkin field circled live scarecrows enchanted to actually keep the crows away. To keep things interesting, the scarecrows danced around the pumpkins. The dancing was not quite unison. They tried their best, but most of the straw men flailed their arms a little too vigorously, flinging straw in every direction. Some of the scarecrows were dressed in typical scarecrow fashion with flannel shirts and burlap, while some were dressed in suits and top hats, dark dresses, and wigs.
Millie was so excited! She finished casting the charms on her fruit and pinned them into her hat. She was happy her mum was creative and sent her a fun costume for the ball. She had also sent extra leis for her friends. She finished applying her makeup and slid her shoes on. She hoped she wasn't too early and wondered if she should wait by the Great Hall for some of her friends, anyone else I have forgotten
Magnus waited with baited breath for his date to arrive in the Ravenclaw common room.
He'd dressed as Legolas from the Lord of the Rings, a book that he loved dearly. It was also a reminder of a rather great chase he and Katsumi had had. She tackled him trying to stop him from spending his pocket money on art supplies for her. In the end he was guarding the letter and said "My own, my precious." Magnus looked back on that fondly. So there he was waiting for Kat to come down out of the girl's dorm so he could go escort her to the ball. He held a Sakura blossom for her, even though he knew it did not go with the outfit. The only problem for the day was, he could not stay the entire thing. Shortly before dusk he would have to go to the dungeons and change--tonight being the night of a full moon.
(will ping others once they meet up in the GH))
Garrett had finally decided he was going to wear a costume to this ball, and not just go as himself. He had attached all of his demon parts, applied his makeup and fake blood. His fangs, carefully concealed behind his painted lips, were all his. He gave his cat Kiki and gentle, final pet on the head, and walked out of his dorm room, closing the door firmly behind him. He was not taking any chances with his black kitty coming to any danger this season.
Out in the Slytherin common room, he waited patiently for to come out..he was in no rush to head to the ball. He wondered what costume their prefect and house mates would wear, or even if they were attending at all ( )..maybe they could all go down as a group and feel uncomfortable together.
Fable did say she was bringing her tablet....Garrett sighed, and a sudden thought brought a smile to his lips...perhaps he could have a few sips from the vein tonight. After all, demons drank blood as well as vampires do, and he already had the fake blood put on, who would notice some real blood mixed in with it...?
'Maybe tonight isn't going to be as bad as I thought it would be,' thought Garrett, and settled himself carefully on the arm of a chair to wait for his beloved.

Aria ran about her room, frantically looking for something to wear for the ball. Last year she had been dreading the ball because she hadn't known anyone, but now she had many friends and even a new brother to celebrate with! Dax, her snowy owl miniature griffin watched her from his lofty perch on the shelf she'd placed for him above the window seat.
'You know the ball isn't actually right now, right? You have several hours to get ready.' Dax mind spoke in a playful tone.
Aria looked up at Dax with annoyance written all over her face. "You're not helping!" She said while pulling out another almost empty trunk from under her bed.
After another few hours Aria was almost ready to go. She looked at Dax, who had been dressed and ready for quite some time. He was wearing the neck bow and leg covers that matched Aria's dress.
"I think I did a pretty good job at making those cute covers for you to wear," she commented to Dax.
Dax ruffled his feathers and sent a mind grumble at her, 'Well, it's better than you going alone, I guess.'
Even though Dax had been acting quite disgruntled about going, Aria knew that he was actually looking forward to the ball; he loved social events. Aria sighed, "Well, this is as good as I am going to get," she whispered while taking one last look at her reflection in the mirror.
Dax sent her a warm loving feeling, 'You are beautiful -- for a human,' he said with a wink.
Giggling softly, Aria leaned down and kissed the top of Dax's head. "Thank you," she said with a smile as she walked out of her room. Aria walked quickly into the hall with Dax and waved at Millie and Magnus, who were already mingling among their friends. Magnus looked like he was waiting for Kat, so she decided to not pester her brother at the moment.
Aria's eyes widened in disbelief upon seeing Garrett 's costume. "Wow, that is an excellent costume," she whispered softly, suddenly self conscious about her own choice of costume.

I really really extremely want:Fable finally comes out of her common room to meet , she didnt tell him what she was going as, as she wanted it to be a surprise...though she is quite nervous.
"Hello Garrett..." she says shyly.
She has discreetly packed her tablet and other necessities for the introverts of her house, and should anything crazy arise.

Garrett stared in utter amazement at . 'Her costume is amazing,' he thought. Then he smiled widely and stood up to greet her. "You....look.....BEAUTIFUL," he beamed. " I love it !! Are you all packed so we can head down and he winced mingle..?"
Seeing her bag, he knew she was.
Garrett motioned Fable forward, as he didn't want to touch too many things with his 'bloody' claws. He followed her out of the common room and into the dungeon, where he was surprised it was quite quiet. He followed her up the stairs, and down the corridor to the Great Hall, where students were mingling with their friends.
Garrett walked in with Fable at his side, proud to have her there, yet uncomfortable with the situation. He covered for his insecurity by remembering he was a vampire, dressed up as a demon, and this was like acting..and he liked that.
He pulled himself up straighter as he walked by a girl () and her white bird wearing a bow tie, and gave her an intimidating look that was completely in character for his demonic persona. Garrett couldn't help the amused little smile that came to his lips when her eyes widened and he heard her whisper "wow, that is an excellent costume"
As he looked around at the festively decorated Hall, his smile widened. In his mind, Garrett had decided that yes, maybe this evening really wasn't going to be so bad after all...it might just be a night to remember for many years to come.

Fable blushed . "Thank you...are you all set?" Seeing that he was she took his hand after showing him that hers were just as "bloody" as his.
She was nervous yet eager, she had never really been to a Halloween party and wondered what it would be like. She was also eager to see the many costumes.
She stuck with Garrett looking around for but it looked like they hadn't come up yet. She smiled and pointed out ' wonderful vintage costume and 's lovely Legolas/elf to Garrett.
Having never met she gave her a polite smile as they passed. She liked how her griffin and her matched.

", should we get some refreshments, and find a spot where we can watch the door..? That way, we can see everyone as they come in, and..." he leaned close and spoke quietly in her ear "discuss..everyone's choice of attire " and he laughed softly, straightening back to his full height. He was in quite the wicked mood this evening. Perhaps the coming full moon had something to do with it...

giggles "Alright...drinks sound good. I like seeing the different costumes..." nervously picking at hers

Garrett smiled at . "Alright, what would you like me to get for you..? I am leaning toward the warm cider, myself....not so sure about that bubbling green stuff." He eyed the cauldron warily. 'Maybe later,' he thought, 'but not right now.' He wanted to see others reactions to drinking it first, and then make his decision on whether or not to have some of it.

Katsumi Mattrick checked the mirror one last time, adjusting her helm and fluffing her beard -- really her own hair, grown out, pulled around, and carefully braided and arranged to cover the lower portion of her face. She was ready. The Ravenclaw wondered what Magnus would think. Hopefully he'd be amused. She'd been hit with a burst of inspiration when he'd said he was going to the ball as Legolas, but she'd stalwartly refused to give him any details. "I want it to be a surprise," she'd told him, every time he tried to wheedle a clue from her.
Being asked to go at all -- at least, in the sense of being someone's date -- had been completely unexpected, and she hoped the butterflies in her stomach would die down in time for her to be able to enjoy the food. It would be her first date, and even though she planned to leave early so she could keep Magnus company during his shift, she was very excited.
He was waiting in the common room, and Kat's eyes lit up when she saw him. She didn't call his name, though. The fact that she'd come from the girl's dormitory would make it obvious that she wasn't one of the boys, at least, but she wanted to find out if he could still tell it was her.
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
"Oooooh a cider please!" she smiles Im not sure what the green stuff is either...but all I can think about is that scene from the movie Hellsing and the viscous liquid. You know...where they are arguing about sticking their hand into it..."
OOC I LOVE YOUR DWARF!! Im guessing Gimli? (I know they dont have much wearables) LOVE IT!!! Could be Thorin...thinks and goes to google

Garrett nodded, remembering the scene, then smiled at "Cider it is, did you want yours hot or cold..? And how about you reserve our perfect spot while I get our drinks...?"

(( Thank you! Actually I was going more for Thorin Oakenshield, but then again, the movie is not the only interpretation. So she could be Gimli...or one of the others that accompanied Bilbo. ^.^; ))

"Hot please, she smiles and looks for a spot "See you soon.." as she wonders.
OOC I figured it out of course right after I posted...Ive only watched the Hobbit group once through so far...You did a great job!
EDIT: I guessed Thorin because of the crown...and the dark hair...So wonderful! I admit though I was a Thranduil girl :D

Garrett walked over to the refreshment area, looking at the various treats, deciding which he might eat 'vampire bat bonbons -yes, translucent marshmallows -no' later on if he got hungry. Then he carefully poured himself and some hot cider...it smelled wonderful...and looked about to see where she had chosen for them to set up base camp.
Seeing her, he headed in her direction and walked up, handing her her cider. "Here you go, dear...miss me..?" he said, with a smile. She had picked out a very good spot.

Magnus saw his date come out of the girl's dorm and started laughing so hard he was almost choking. "I'd like to say you look lovely," he said his eyes shinning with tears of laughter, "but I can't really see anyfing except a clever beard. Well, that settles it, today I'm the prettier one." He laughed and turned so she could inspect his costume. "What you fink? Me 'air dye will go away during my shift so i'll be back to me brown when I come back to 'uman form."
He handed her the flower, still laughing, "For the best beard I'd ever seen. Course I fink if you want a snog, you'll 'ave to undo that, cos that'll be too weird." He opened his arm to offer her. "Shall we go to the dance then, Katli or should I call you Kathroin?"
At the Great hall he spotted so many fantastic outfits that his eyes where bugging out. There was a pang of longing in his stomache--longing to stay to the end of the ball. Curse the damn full moon. Still he waved to his sister Aria and wondered if his best friends would be popping around. He happily said, "'ello," to everyone he saw.
Garrett watched the elf and dwarf enter the Great Hall. He leaned down to whisper quietly to "you know, I almost came as Thranduil...I have been told I would look like him if I was blonde haired, blue eyed, clean shaven and an elf. I think I could pull it off...what do you think..?" He smiled, sipping his cider, watching the 'elf' greet every one.
Garrett nodded and gave a small smile when it was his turn to be "ello-ed"
