-drags writing desk into new topic- Hello, hello!

NaNoWriMo 2015 didn't put me off writing but I've been busy so I haven't gotten much done since then... Out of my goals for last year, I completed none but made solid headway on all. I'm gonna set some new goals for this year... Eventually... I'll edit this when I make up my mind. XD

Hello, people. ~

I've been working on a novel-length fanfiction since around mid-September last year. I know, I suck for taking so long to write it, but on the other hand, this would be the first thing of such length I've written. It's been teaching me a lot about how I personally go about the writing process, and I have noticed a marked improvement since when I started. I can write much, much more in a day than when I first started. I have been averaging over 2k words a day for the past week and a half or so, up from my previous average of 1.5k. It's turning out really well in my opinion. I know this because I am very harsh on myself, and if I think something is good, then I know it actually is.

The fandom is for the video game Dishonored. Funny thing is, the only reason I bought the game because I discovered its rendition of "Drunken Sailor" on Youtube while hunting for new sea shanties. (I love folk songs and the like.) Then Steam had a sale on it, so I just decided to go for it. Great decision. I loved the game and its world, even though I had essentially zero experience with stealth games and rarely played games with first person shooter mechanics. Then I bought the DLCs. After putting something like 100 hours into the game last summer, I started developing the idea for this fic.

So Dishonored 2 is coming out some time this year, and I am so excited for it! There isn't a precise release date yet, which constitutes a problem, because I'm using that as a deadline. I want to get at least the first chapter of this fic ready for release before the next game. I've heard it might be in the spring, and if that's so, then I should have enough time.

I get the impression that I would feel a bit empty when I finish this if I don't have something to write, so I'll be continuing to make fanfiction when this is over, most likely. Overall, this project had been good for me, and has made me question if I should write a "real" novel. If I do, its sure to be acclaimed as a "best first novel" because in reality, it won't actually be my first novel; this will. :P

I, too, have been working on a novel-length fanfiction that I started in September. I finished chapter four in November which brings it up to nearly 20k words, with each chapter longer than the last--I think chapter four was around 7k words. I've been having physical and mental health issues that've made me stop writing here and there, but I try when I can. Including the prologue and epilogue, I'm planning 13 chapters. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback, and I haven't really gotten any critique.

I know what you mean about feeling empty. I do have other fanfiction I need to finish after re-writing and re-directing them, which also stopped because of my physical and mental illnesses. And I do have three original works I've been wanting to expand on more and more and eventually publish them... but they are all in extremely different categories which is not the norm for most authors. I've got a fantasy story, one YA psychological story, and one slight horror/suspense/action/intrigue story. I'm all over the place.

Maybe you could outline ideas you have for either fanfiction or fiction (or both)? That's what I do. It helps me keep on track for the story as a whole and each chapter. I write out the summary of the story, what I want to happen, and put them with more details in numbered lists acting as chapters so I know what to accomplish every time. It's really helped me to focus and finish.

What a coincidence! What fandom are you writing for I wonder?

My chapters have been averaging 4,000 words each. None so far are under 3k or over 5k, so at least I can tell that I'm a pretty good judge of how much I can fit into a chapter. The story just kept demanding more and more time to develop, and by my latest estimate it will be 24 chapters. I have currently started with the final act, and should have an accurate understanding of where I stand by the end of the month. I have 18 chapters so far on my rough draft. Then all that will be left to complete is the second draft, a third draft for polishing, and some peer editing, if I can find someone, then I'll be good to go.

As for genres, I don't really see the need to stay in one, so long as its what you want to write. Good writing is more important than genre to me. What I'm working on now is a tragedy aalmost perfectly set in the game's lore, but one of the two ideas I currently have for other Dishonored fics is a zany piece of detective fiction in a modern AU. The other, is a crossover tragedy that I may or may not make depending on if people want to see more of the characters in the story I'm currently writing.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. It may be cheesy to admit, but writing this has helped me to seek out medication for my depression. I thought for a while the writing every day had taken the edge off of my depression, but after a few days of having my worst down period since 2013, I realized this wasn't the case. I was a bit worried that starting medication would get in the way of trying to write a good tragedy, but that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, starting the medication is probably part of what has helped me to get my daily word count as high as it is now.

I have six beautiful cities named, ready for creation. Most of the work has been done on my Queensland and New South Wales ones because they were the first I created. I'm gonna put them aside and work on my Western Australia one.

Despite I live in Queensland, I love the title page for my WA one and the name. It's the last one I created a title page for and it's quite pretty. I'm have a notebook for each city :)

Badly need to kick my lazy butt into gear and get a lot more writing done. I also need to whip my motivation into shape in order to actually write the ideas that rattle in my mind. Hopefully 2016 will be my year for getting things done. I'm really hoping that'll be the case.

Ah, I'm a little embarrassed about this fandom ^_^; It's an RPF,and I was soooo red when I posted the prologue alone! I've gained more confidence since then, but still. If you really wanna know, I'll PM you, I don't mind that--I just don't want everyone to think I'm weird lol.

Actually, I didn't much care for the romantic part of the fandom at all until I saw a comic on DA. I gave in.

You know, talking to another person about fanfiction on here has really helped me and motivated me. I am seeing a therapist, psychiatrist, my PCP, and various other specialists for everything. I do take medication, but it always makes me tired and one of my medications causes, mm, laziness I would say, and anterograde amnesia, so I have trouble remembering things a lot.

But writing has made me feel not so alone, and it makes me happy to see other people happy; I get a lot of joy from it. I need to polish up my work as well, though.

I've heard of the series but I've never played or watched someone play it, but it definitely sounds interesting--and so does your story :)

You guys seem so much more productive than me! I haven't really devoted much time to my own writing in a long time. I am brushing up on my editing skills currently. My mom and her best friend are planning on starting a publishing company, and I am going to be taking on a part time position as an editor! I'm pretty excited. :)

I have written little to nothing since the beginning of the new year.

And man, I've really been worried about this contest I entered in December...

The results come out on the 29th and I just might die.

Hmm I think I need to devote more time into reading. I find reading really sparks my motivation and helps me fuel the desire to write. Sad thing is most of the books I have been reading turned into a biiiig let down. But I am persistent.

Hey guys I've been reading a lot lately and I'm thinking of trying my hand at writing something, but I haven't written a single thing since 2012 and I have no clue where to start, do any of you have ideas of where to start? Or any sources of writing prompts?

What have you been reading lately? If you enjoy it that much, then you should write something similar to it. If anything, it will tell you what you find so compelling about the books you've been reading. People talk a lot about how creators should come up with 100% original ideas or some bs. In reality, the best works of art draw heavy influence from other sources.

Hi folks :) I've been working on a sci fi novel and a surreal novel. I hope to finally complete them this year!

In my opinion the way to get back into writing differs from person to person, but there are a couple of things I'd like to list for you.

Think about what kind of fiction/non-fiction you'd like to write. Do you have a genre? Some kind of aim? Is the writing meant to inform, deliver a message or evoke emotion? If emotion, what kind? Just like suggested - What have you written before? What do you enjoy writing about? When writing, what has inspired you in the past? Do you enjoy using settings as prompts, perhaps? Or do you like thinking about your characters first? Some writers prefer to brainstorm ideas then start on the story. After some research they can become inspired and confident to write. Ever heard of flash fiction? These are micro-stories, usually under one hundred words. They can be quite difficult, but they are a good way of easing into writing. ( And you might feel more confident after having new completed work. )

Well I think I did good. I owed a friend of mine a gift story and finally got around to typing it up the other day. It was still considered writing and somewhat new because I had to make quite a bit of changes as I was transferring it from notebook to computer. Feels good. I just hope my motivation can stop by and let me write some new things.

Hey everyone :D I've been tossing around an idea for a sci-fi story involving King Arthur's return for a while now, and now that I'm actually getting to writing down the ideas and charting out characters / plot, I figured I'd stop back by Subeta. I know there are a lot of writers here, so I figured it'd be a good place to hang out while I work!

So it's nearly the afternoon and I haven't opened up either of my stories to work on yet. Woops. While progress is slow hopefully I can pluck new motivation from the abyss. We shall see!

A gift story seems like a great way to way to get back into writing, I'm glad things have worked out :)

Have you any idea on what kind of story or writing project you'd like to start next?

Hello :) A sci-fi story involving King Arthur? Gosh, that'll be interesting. I once did a lot of research on Druids, there is 'branch' of Druidry that does believe in the King's eventual (if not current) return. I too am hoping to benefit from the writers hanging around Subeta. We can encourage and motivate each other to write and conquer!

I actually have a few stories I had finished months ago, I just need to stop being lazy and type them up. Gives me a chance to revise and edit and sometimes it inspires me for other stories. After that though, heh I don't really know just yet.

I'm trying to get motivated to get back into my writing. I tried entering NaNoWriMo 2015, but I got hit with a sudden move and a massive wave of depression and wasn't able to write jack for it.

I'm currently revisiting the story I wanted to do for NaNo, which is an episodic novel about a witch who runs a potion shop. I've pretty much got the world for it down pat, and now I'm trying to get a bit of it finished enough to post on Tumblr.
