I was thinking that the book might be able to be a children's book (with dark adult-ish undertones like bugs eating bugs) that my sisters' and I could publish!

My oldest sister is a writer too, and the second oldest is an artist. (With be being the youngest of three girls, poor dad)

Interesting XD Sounds like fun!

I've got an older sib, but I'm the "creative" one in the family when it comes down to it. My parents are pretty patronizing when I mention wanting to eventually publish. Since I don't live with them, I generally don't bring up my writing unless specifically asked. I must admit to finding myself a bit envious of your family ^^;

LOL that's one way to put it. I also have the attention span of a gnat, apparently. I managed to write 2 paragraphs yesterday! Which is more than I've written most other days, lately. Writing is hard ._.

Have you tried looking at the forum writing group that offers prompts and critiques?

I forgot the name, let me know if you're interested and I'll dig through my posts for it. :)

Nah, I haven't really. I'm trying to write a specific scene that's being difficult because it's a legitimately awkward scene. Like, the POV character is super uncomfortable and so as the writer it makes me uncomfortable too, and it's a delicate balancing act of making it believably awkward without being convoluted or so awkward that the reader dies of secondhand embarrassment XD

As for critique... I avoid it like the plague. My fiancee reads over my works before I post them anywhere and points out things that don't make sense or are typographical errors or whatever, but actual "peer critique" makes me want to cut out my own intestines with a rusted spork. Terrible, terrible experiences in childhood, high school, and college. I could probably handle a professional editor, but when it comes to posting my writing for the sole purpose of letting strangers pick it apart I would really just rather crawl into a hole and die ^_^; But thank you for offering!

I'm sorry to hear that... Sorry for stating up old memories... :(

Oh random fact: I just got an email from a thing that wants to publish my poem in a book!

"CONGRATULATIONS!

It is our extreme pleasure to inform you that our judges have selected your poem (attached below) for publication as a Topical Winner in

American High School Poets “Inside of Me"'

OH YEAH!

But again, I'm sorry that ever happened to you... :(

Congratulations!! That's a fantastic opportunity! :D Do you enter stuff like that often?

Don't worry about me ^^ I'm 30 years old and most of the stuff was a long time ago, so it's not like fresh wounds or anything. It's just one of those things that sticks with you as an influencer. And it's getting better with time - I'll show things to friends and post things I deem "ready" on places like Tumblr and AO3. I'm just not able to put out something that I've poured a piece of my soul into for the sake of people telling me what I'm "doing wrong" ^^; I take it too personally, and "wrong" is such a subjective thing anyway.

When I see an opportunity to further my writing, I jump up and take the challenge.

I've entered a few things since my junior year and I've won at least something like 3/5ths of the time.

:D

For sure ^^ It's fun! Plus it's been really helpful in reminding me to look at my writing notebook and try to continue poking through that scene. Just gotta get the framework... second drafts can fix a multitude of problems later.

Hello! I'm new to subeta but I've joined the ping lists etc :)

My goal for this year is to write a novel... It's a pretty vague goal, but I've been slacking lately and I honestly thought I would have written a novel by now. Even a rough draft would be an achievement at this point tbh!

Congratulations!

Welcome to Subeta! Writing a novel is a huge goal, and a rather nebulous one when you think about it. Have you tried setting yourself a more tangible goal, like a certain word count per day or week, or something like that? It might help you break down your novel into more bite-sized chunks that you can track and hold yourself accountable.

Thanks! Yes, it is a pretty vague goal so far, but I need to have the focus in my head otherwise I will never do it. I am a terrible procrastinator :/ I think that's good advice, I will likely split the goal up into bite-sized sections, plot points etc, to make it easier to tackle, but to be honest wordcount deadlines make me so nervous! I've only attempted NaNo once, and I was doing really well until about day 10 when I got a little bit behind, and I was never able to catch up! It was so stressful ahaha. So yeah, I do best with loose guide.

I have written lots before, even some quite long novellas, but I have a habit of losing interest in plots before they can become full novels. I need to find something that sustains my interest, and I have been rolling an idea around in my head lately that I think could grow into a good story :)

There's a lot of really good advice out there. The NaNo site has a collection of great advice and pep talks from authors. You'll find what works best for you in particular ^^ It's just a matter of keeping on trying!

I've been writing again and it feels amazing. Granted I've only done a few short stories but I have done quite a few blurbs here and there and it's just been ... so nice to actually get some creative stuff done. I'm hoping to start writing more short stories in longer forms. I've also been working out plots for 2 different novel concepts. Woo!

-Flops in- Hi hello everyone.

I am...how do I want to even start this-

I write fanfiction pretty much mostly for all kinds of things, and right now my fandom obsession is Detective Conan. I am actually procrastinating right now; instead of finishing this story that is ALMOST done, I'm here saying "hi" to all you lovely folks. |D I've been chipping away at it over the last two days. I'm just having trouble with the characters. I'm invested in the anime and I've actually got a lot of ideas I want to write for, but I have so little motivation. I don't know how people find it in themselves to go, "Alright, let's sit down and belt this out!" on the daily. I very rarely am able to do that, and this seems to be no exception. ^^;;

It's incredibly frustrating not being able to just focus long enough to get a thing done unless I'm SUPER SUPER SUPER into it. And I'm only super into it, not super super super lmao.

BUT YES hi hello I just wanted to pop in and all that, I suppose I'll get back to my story now. |D
