I've gone back and forth over the years on the sidebar, I'm sure you can pull up forum threads where I've declared it DEAD and BURIED and never coming back. Well, I've come around!
I'm now working on the sidebar on kumos.subeta.net (did you notice that you can collapse it 👀!) and have begun to build the pieces needed to power ✨ widgets ✨
NOTE Screenshots are all very early, pls do not judge!

The first step of the process was to build a method of saving your preferences around the site easily, for the sidebar and any other feature.
Here they're introduced as the number of items shown in the inventory widget, and the on/off display of widgets in the sidebar.
Soon: In that modal you'll be able to move them up/down and reorder them as well.

✅ complete, and easy for me to utilize in other areas of the site to save preferences that we'd usually clear away when you refresh e.g. how pages are sorted when you first load them. This will make the site feel more dynamic, and like it remembers your choices significantly better.
example of how easy it is to get & set these new preferences

Wow! Thanks for all your hard work Keith!!! I would love to see the bathhouse on it, The Rift and also Item Directory
I am not old. I am gracefully aged
omg first of all THANK YOU SO MUCH for keeping the sidebar and widgets, i use them every day and i love having them and the bookmarks on the other side of the old layout! seeing that they may be removed made me so sad, so glad to still have them going forward!
The must haves for me are:
If custom bookmarks arent being kept as is, i think it would be also great to have bookmarks widget. Gotta have the link to BHH on each page so I remember to check it
Yay! I'll admit, I was sad to hear that the sidebar wasn't going to be moving over to the new site because it is integral to my daily gameplay lol
The widgets I use all the time are - User Stats (Subeta: (Username)) Human Avatar Notepad Quests Melody's Cottage
I also think that a widget for the Bathhouse Pools might be nice! Right now, my browser shortcut for Subeta just takes me straight to the bathhouse pools so that I don't forget, but having a widget would be an extra layer of assurance for me, and a good reminder for people who don't have a shortcut to it set up. :)
Thanks for the update . I love the new auto update that will be both handy for the users and your staff.
I do have an unrelated question about Kumos. Why don't the themes work there? I keep switching the theme setting around to aqua, halloween, and cupcake to see if the page changes and it doesn't. Refreshing the page also doesn't work.
I Would be lost without:
~Events ~Navigation ~Quests ~Notepad ( This is a very important info location for me )
Exciting news! The widgets I love / use everyday / cannot live without are:
User Stats Shop Search Navigation Quests Notepad
And less frequently but still important when needed & during events especially: Melody's Cottage Oracle quests Friends online

Thank you for the update and for the effort! I'm super glad to hear that the sidebar and widgets are moving over as well <3
My sidebar must-haves are:
Nice-to-haves are:
Wishlist:
I use the general ones(main info, search, notepadwhen needed, melodys cottage, friends, etc) but would actually like to potentially see the shoutbox open back up(though i generaly just it open in a tab now)
Thank you for keeping it, I need it ;_;
I use Shop Profits, Events, Quests, Oracle and Melody, and the user info/HA ones are nice to have.
If bookmarks are going then I will desperately need a bookmark widget, I have so many links in my bookmark sidebar
A generalized alert widget instead of the various set alert buttons. Since you're tying all timers together, I think you could have a widget that just lets you know when timer based events are available to do currently instead of having specific widgets.
Configuring the widget could let you choose which events you want updates on and even the questing widget could be consolidated (i don't know if the available quest count is useful beyond knowing that you do still have quests available for a particular questgiver for the day).
It can also link to the timer page that you referenced intending to build on the vending testing announcement which could provide more granular/verbose information beyond a "can i do this? yes // no" widget gutcheck.
The ones I use everyday:
And a new one for the bathhouse would be great.
+1 for new bathhouse widget, that would be immensely helpful!

omg I live by my sidebar lol.
I use these daily: User Stats HA Quests Notifications (idk if that counts)
Use these often: Shop Search Subeta Search
Would love to also have: Bathhouse Melody
I remember being lost for ever and a day, when the layout was first changed. I wished we could keep a self progamable sidebar just as we have now with the events toggle. What I use on my sidebar:
User Info (name, sP/CSC, active Pet, status, users online and buffs)
Main/Battle Pet (that used to be 2 options, yet it would always be the same pet for both)
Coda Caves
Avatar
Shop search
Oracle
Shops Profits
Main Shop list alphabethically
Main one where it shows sP etc Quests My avatar Oracle Quest Shop List
Sorry to doublepost, but since, as you said elsewhere, the site is a pack of countdowns in a trenchcoat, this probably consolidates a lot of the other requests as well. Melody, Baths, Oracle... all you really need is a gutcheck if its available to do and a link and that represents a good chunk of the dynamic content of the site.
Other personalized static links can be user-defined in the notepad widget since it supports sCode. Being able to have multiple notepads for grouping would be nice as would the ability to title them individually.
SO my regime would have training availability in the timer widget but quicklinks to the BC/Armory/Scrolls in a notepad widget, at user preference.
Then that leaves the question of what dynamic site content ISN'T represented by timers and can't be addressed with static links. User Info, shoutbox (though this is currently not in the SB due to event calendar), social info (active friends and feed)
OR OR OR i don't know if this is a feasible or it would create even more strain on the system but a model where every widget is a notepad and timers, bank balance, special currencies, shop tills, etc. can be addressed with new sCode tags and then users can construct their sidebar pretty much autonomously based on what about using the site is important to them. So something where [timer=Crypts] would give you a link to the Crypts page if the timer was up or unlinked text if you still had to wait, [quest=Wizard] would link to the Wiz if you still had quests for the day, [balance=sP] would return your banked sP, [balance=subeautique] would return your banked invites, [balance=shop1] would yield the till of your first shop, etc..
[EDIT]: And then you can offer a suite of preconfigured widgets like for battle pet or what ever but its a masquerading notepad widget that leans on these proposed new tags, and is then user-extensible as they mature and require different functionality but not really requiring more technical know-how than putting blocks together, and configs can easily be shared on the forums between users
checks what's active for widgets
The Oracle [x]
Shop Profits [x]
Subeta: METROID [x]
Shop Search [x]
Notepad [x]
Battle Pet [x] - this one is very handy for quickly navigating to the coliseum
These ones. Keep them OR ELSE.
