Let's get digital, digital, I wanna get digital! Let's get into digits, yeah.

Hi, I'm Tregg and I'm a design person. Work —> https://tre.gg/ I've got a semester left of school in which I'm undertaking a thesis project about "misleading viral news stories" and the role that product/interaction design plays in that.

HELLO! ahh nice portfolio, and also that domain is perfect.

Okay introductions here we go. I'm Bug and I'm a coder. I'm 22 and still sorta finding my way in life. I'm a bit of a workaholic and I'm obsessed with Subeta, so I'm pretty much on this website 24/7 as a result xD

I've always just really enjoyed coding!! I got into it cuz I took a class in high school about Java, and then it was all downhill from there. I learned how to Google and just googled anything that I was curious about. That caused me to dabble in a lot of random things. This feels like forever ago but I was... maybe.. .16 I think, when I started coding.

Hi ! Your website and resume both look very professional and interesting! Your thesis sounds way more interesting than mine was, how's it going?

Hi ! Are you still in school or are you between jobs?

I'm Hong and I'm a graphic designer / front-end web developer. I got my bachelor's in applied computer sciences and majored in application development. My degree is not 100% relevant for my job or for what I like to do, but it did teach me good practises and gave me a solid foundation to build on. I'm 27 and like drawing, designing, sewing, embroidering, playing the piano, writing letters, reading and Subeta. I have too many hobbies and not enough time, because I need sleep =(

As for what got me into coding... Well, that's partly Neopets and partly doll-sites. I never dared to make a NP profile back in the beginning (about 15 years ago, omg that makes me feel old), but it did inspire me to make my first geocities websites for pixel-dolls. Complete with anime-themed graphics that were cut up and put into tables in Frontpage. So awful. After that I dabbled in NP profiles, more doll sites and multiple attempts at a portfolio site before taking a break from coding to study art in high school instead. And after that I got my degree =)

What about you?

Neither, actually! I got sick while in college and dropped out, and now I work for Subeta as a web developer part-time (and am still dealing with my health, but I'm doing much better now). I was studying computer science in college. I made it through about two years worth of classes, and luckily I went to a great school so I still learned a lot from those classes even if I couldn't complete the degree.

Outside of coding, I like to write, doodle, and generally just do creative things. I've always been fond of writing poetry, for as long as I can remember.

I never actually set out to do web development - I was always more interested in computer systems (think C programming level of stuff). But I'm enjoying my work for Subeta, and of course always doing my best. Sometimes web stuff can feel intimidating to me because the environment changes so quickly and there is so much to consider with both compatibility and security. The design aspect of front end is also difficult for me because I've never had a great eye for design. As you might expect, I've always been more comfortable (and better) in the backend, but I've gotten much better with frontend over the years.

You and might appreciate this pet of mine (warning - bright colors ahead): https://subeta.net/pets/webmaster

Haha love that pet profile.

I got into making websites a little bit before finding Neopets, but Neopets was the nail in the coffin for me. I made freewebs sites, xanga blogs, and myspace layouts all the time for fun on top of design petpages, profiles, and guild layouts. I also started learning PHP and such so I could build my own petsite with my best friend. I bought PHP for dummies once... haha. I used to get PC Arts magazines and other web design magazines too.

Then I played guitar for a while, focused on making music, and came back around to design in college.

someone nominated him for the pet spotlight xD we'll see how that goes... by the way I've been meaning to tell you that your HA is amazing.

I saw on your website that you were in a metal band??? Cuz that is awesome! Do you have a soundcloud or something where we could listen to your music?

She dreams in digital... I don't dream at all.

I tinker with physical tools and real life. I have enrolled for auto tech for the next spring semester, per my friend's encouragement and first hand experience.

I used to play bass, but am out of practice. Southpaws have it hard...

Here though...I've done more in the last twelve months than in the previous five years. I hate free time...

Oh I see! I hope your health will continue to improve then =) Do you have any examples of poetry you're willing to share? I love reading poetry, but I'm utter crap at writing it myself.

Web stuff does require you to stay up to date on environmental changes, but the most annoying thing about development (either for computer systems or web) is when you're required to be backwards-compatible. I find it fun to play around with new technologies, but it irks me when I have to make bizarre workarounds for older browsers or when the thing I want isn't workable for those browsers.

Design is actually kind of like all other things, in that an innate talent makes things easier but the only way to get better at it is to do it over and over again. When I started my job, I didn't really know anything about design either, but experience has taught me tons of things! And the better you get at it, the more comfortable it gets as well.

Your pet is very bright. And it makes me feel super nostalgic, in a slightly awkward "oh dear, I used to make things like this" way =P

Also, in the other thread you mentioned that there were more changes than just transitioning from BS3 to BS4, such as the move from semantic+prototype to bs+jquery. Does that mean that there'll be more responsive designing going on too? Or will there still be a separate (hopefully improved) mobile version?

I forgot all about myspace! I used to make those type of layouts too and I remember have so much fun doing that x) I dabbled in PHP when messing around with WordPress, but it's been a while since I did that. I used to get the PC Arts magazines and other web design magazines too! Always so pretty to look at... I still have the issues I got stashed away somewhere (I'm a hoarder irl too). Like Bug, I'm also curious about a possible soundcloud or something, to listen to your music!

Auto tech, do you mean like with cars? Because if that's the case, my fiance has a degree in that! I had to type up some essays for him, because he can't type very well; and I used to help him revision. It sounded very complicated, because he had a lot of chemistry and physics and maths... And well... I flunked those x)

Yes, automobile maintenance and repair. Something I've been dipping into the last few years. I've been reading the material on my own, and its all straightforward.

It didn't look very straightforward when my fiancé studied it x) But it's probably a different degree? He had courses like CAD basics, maths, physics, statistics, electronics, mechanics of materials, hydraulics, ... All of them were courses with way too much math in it for me! Where are you from, btw? I'm from Belgium.

From as far west in Texas before bumping into New Mexico.

The math and electronics used in this field are relatively simple. I better understand mechanical processes because I can imagine them though I don't see them directly.

I guess your fiancée designs them, and I'd keep them running.

I agree, design can definitely be learned. I've seen it happen. I had the predisposition to it because I'd been making art and websites my whole life, but some of my classmates hadn't ever even opened photoshop before and they're amazing. Good design is about solving problems more than it is about making something that's visually interesting. Visually interesting things often are necessitated by the needs of the project. If that makes sense... Basically, yes it's supposed to look good, but first, it's supposed to solve a problem. Design is a spectator sport and there is some subjectivity to it.

Ah, good ole' Myspace. I always wanted to be popular on there, but I wasn't cool enough. haha

I also hope your health continues to improve. I've found that some of those times in life, when you're in between jobs or sick or somehow housebound, you can sometimes learn the best skills. I went to online high school for a year and it was the worst experience, but I built websites, made music, and watched a LOT of Youtube videos. I knew all my favorite's upload schedules so well. Back before you could stage a video to buffer and they came in as basically 12p... I'm kinda ranting. My point is, I hope your health continues to improve!

And, since you both asked: https://thefulfillment.bandcamp.com/ :)

Neat! Cars are getting so much more technical. A lot of us millennials don't actually understand that being a mechanic, or whatever other terms there are for, doesn't necessarily mean the image of a grease-stained shirt anymore. Especially with the rise of electric cars. Interesting times.

Even electric cars have moving parts. And elements that do not involve old school methods. All machines operate by simple concepts, they're just complex arrangements.
