I don't mind at all! I work for a company that makes software for realtors. I'm on the design team, which means I design and develop stuff for those realtors and for our software. Things like websites, flyers, brochures, mailings, business cards, roll up banners, UI, icons, ... The whole shebang ;)

I meant keep the mobile version until the desktop version is completely responsive, but I can see how that wouldn't quite work out xD I use the desktop version on mobile too, but with a customCSS that makes things more responsive and less fiddly.

I did take a look at the header and footer and I did see that (because I'm hiding the majority of it in my customCSS, lol). However, I'm not sure what Prototype.js is supposed to do in the header? Or is it the framework you guys use for showing the events? And if you re-write the front-end for the header/sidebar/bookmarks/footer, do you need a separate rewrite for the back-end or did you guys separate that out? Because if you only need to rewrite the front-end, then rewriting it for BS shouldn't be too hard, no? Or am I completely underestimating the complexity of the project (probably xD) ?

I am absolutely one of those people. Desktop on mobile isn't that bad, though.

Ehn, could be worse. You could be dealing with Neopet's legacy code, right? (Shots accurately fired).

that's... really cool, actually! What's your favorite thing to design? I'm going to guess websites. Totally random, I know.

Haha, actually not websites. I prefer to design offline communications, such as flyers and brochures :P

Hmm, guess that's the 'amateur artist' in you? That's really awesome, though! What programs do you use for that? InDesign?

Yup! InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. We use Visual Studio for our websites, since we've got our own CMS in this nice big complicated project xD

I mean we are planning to do that (keep the mobile version around until the desktop is fully responsive) But that doesn't mean we're allowed to break the desktop version on mobile xD

However, I'm not sure what Prototype.js is supposed to do in the header? Or is it the framework you guys use for showing the events?

Prototype is similar to jQuery in its functionality. So it's actually used for a lot of basic interactivity... like the dropdown menus in the navigation haha.

And if you re-write the front-end for the header/sidebar/bookmarks/footer, do you need a separate rewrite for the back-end or did you guys separate that out?

Well... I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here, as those are all front-end components.

Because if you only need to rewrite the front-end, then rewriting it for BS shouldn't be too hard, no? Or am I completely underestimating the complexity of the project (probably xD) ?

You are, yeah. :P

all solid choices for programs (though I prefer Eclipse to Visual Studio). I think the only times I've ever used InDesign was when I was taking journalism in high school— we designed our own magazine covers and news article layouts.

omg, javascript for dropdown menus? Now I get what you mean with legacy code! And what I meant to ask was basically, do you guys use MVC? With it being legacy code, I'm assuming you're not, which is probably also one of the reasons why the rewrite will be a massive pain in the bum :P

We used Eclipse a couple of times in college, but I prefer Visual Studio myself because I'm more used to it. I use InDesign when doing in-house prints, because we have to send it to a printing-service/company. Photoshop gets used when I have to design prints for our customers, since they print it themselves and thus don't need bleeds and all that rot.

Visual Studio got a lot less scary after those first few introductory courses, heh. I never really got the hang on InDesign, but I was a crappy teenager and probably wasn't trying that hard. (Now I'm a crappy 20-something-year old and try minutely harder).

Just, I dunno. Something about the way everything was layered. It's not even that different from PS (which I'm very comfortable with, I used to make photomanipulations as a hobby)— I'm wondering if I could manage basics now.

Hi there Josie! I'm doing superbly, how about you?

My first time using InDesign was pretty confusing and it took me a couple of days to get the hang of it. A lot of things are the same, but the fact remains that you shouldn't use InDesign unless you're planning to print whatever you're making. InDesign is loads better at that than Photoshop, since Photoshop is a bitmap program and thus everything is converted to pixels. Scaling things is a lot easier in InDesign and Illustrator, which makes those programs better choices for prints obviously :D

welcome to the madness, Josie!

hmm, that's... dude, I think you kind of described in exactly three sentences what one of my high school teachers tried explaining to me no less than several dozen times. She wasn't a web designer or anything, though, so maybe you're just speaking my language?

I'm doing the same thing, in between questing xD What do you do IRL?

Haha, could be. But my degree is actually for programming, so maybe it's that? Though you mentioned that you had a degree in computer science, but I'm not sure what aspect?

Um... I'm pretty sure BS4's dropdown menus are also JS components. This is not a weird thing haha.

I don't want to get too far into the details of the code, but yes, we do use MVC.

Sounds interesting! So do you have to actually crunch numbers a lot or do you more advise people?

My job is to do both. Advise and crunch. :)
